Manuel Ramirez Avila Jr.

 

 

A memorial service for Manuel Avila Jr., 66 of Giddings, Texas, was held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the Kingdom Hall Of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Smithville, Texas.

Manuel Ramirez Avila Jr. was born on February 7, 1956 to Manuel & Armandina (Ramirez) Avila.

In May of 1974, he graduated from Cotulla High School. He was united in marriage to Esmeralda Martinez on December 29, 1980 in Cotulla, Texas.

His life and his livelihood was ranching. He was the ranch manager at La Esperanza in south Texas in 1981. In 1983, he had the privilege of working for the Zoch family managing Flying Z Ranches in Alpine, Texas for over 30 years and then he transferred to the ranch in Lee County. The Zoch’s always made him feel like family.

As a spiritual man, Manuel loved creation and The Creator truly enjoying the livestock, long rides, and observing wildlife. Most important of all was his family. He was a loving, supportive, and devoted husband to his wife of 42 years, Esmerelda, and a loving father to his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed teaching the boys the many skills of a cowboy and taking them on fishing trips.

Manuel passed away the morning of Saturday, June 11, 2022 in Giddings.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel & Armandina Avila, and one brother, Alfredo Avila.

Manuel is survived by his wife, Esmeralda Avila of Giddings; three children, Manuel “Trey” Avila III of Ft. Stockton, Alexis Avila of Wortham, and April & James Fowlkes III of Pecos; six grandchildren, Alan Granados, Sienna Martinez, Isaac Avila, Ian Rodriguez, Madelyn Rodriguez, and Tristen Fowlkes, and five siblings, Homero Avila of New Mexico, Hugo Avila of Georgia, Angelica West of Del Rio, Armandina Clark of Temple, and Hortencia Del Toro of Cotulla.
