Lexington Leader

Jerry Edwin Poston, Jr.

Jerry Edwin Poston, Jr., a.k.a. Little Jerry, was the first born child to Jerry and Rosa Nell Poston on July 17, 1953 in Rockdale, Texas. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1972, working at the Lexington Livestock Commission all through school and after.

He had a love of animals, so he became a farrier, helping ranchers and horse enthusiasts throughout Lee County, as well throughout the surrounding counties. He continued to work at the cattle barn, but kept the equine in shoes!

On October 3, 2013, Jerry married Noella Tabone. Together they enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping and all things outdoors. Jerry may be best known for his garden, which was always large and productive. Noella said, “He used to want to feed all of Lexington from his garden.”

His friends confirmed his commitment to his work saying, “If anyone would call for farrier work, Jerry would come!”

Others would say that Jerry was generous and happy. The last four and one half years were hard on Jerry’s health, as he battled cancer. But those around him said he never complained. He didn’t want to be a burden on anyone.

Since their marriage, Jerry and Noella traveled North American extensively, enjoying Nova Scotia and many places on the eastern seaboard of Canada. They camped their way around the United States, and enjoyed mostly those areas from Rockport, Texas to Florida, including Louisiana, Tennessee and many other states along the way.

Jerry passed away peacefully at his home on September 5, 2020 after an extended period of fighting the ravages on cancer.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Poston, Sr., a.k.a. Big Jerry.

He is survived by his wife Noella of Lexington; his mother Nell Poston of Lexington; his son Trae Poston of Lexington and his daughter Rhae Poston of Corpus Christi; his sister Jo Adams of Lexington; his niece Tristian Hoermann and husband Kyle of Princeton, Texas; his great-nephew Mason Hoermann; and many cousins and numerous friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at 2PM at the Lexington Livestock Commission. A private service for the family will be held at a later date.

“He’ll be missed by so many people,” Noella said.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Cancer Hospital, Jerry’s favorite charity or to your favorite charity.
