Student Threatens to Shoot Teacher

- Lexington Police were dispatched to the Lexington Middle School last Friday following a report that a student had threatened a teacher the day before. A 12-year-old male had passed a note to another student that allegedly said he was planning to shoot the teacher. The note was intercepted on Thursday and the school administration brought the police into the incident on Friday.

Officer Damewood went to the Lexington Middle School Alternative Education Program building after the middle school student made statements regarding shooting a teacher and made additional statements that lead school staff and police to suspect a gun had been brought to school.

A search of the AEP building and students failed to turn up a gun, but did result in locating two knives on one student not involved in the initial threat. The knives were confiscated and that matter is being handled by school staff.

Further interviews of involved students indicated that no firearm was located on the school grounds. The threat, however, is being taken extremely seriously. The student was removed from school and the matter has been referred to Lee County Juvenile Probation for disposition.
