Chief Davis of the Lexington Police Department reported that he has spent the past week attending training, and completing the LEMIT (Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas) Leadership Command Series at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. Chief Davis previously completed the first three portions of the program with the first module being held at Texas A&M University, the second held at Texas Women’s University in Denton, with the third and fourth modules being held at Sam Houston State University.
Davis stated that the program remains highly recommended for State of Texas police supervisors and has long been considered comparable in content and form to the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. The program allows police supervisors to be exposed to a wide variety of theories and problem solving practical exercises to better prepare them and their communities for the future, diverse situations experienced by law enforcement.
Davis stated that many cities in Texas have benefited greatly from officers attending the LEMIT training and expects the City of Lexington to be included as one of those cities. The more education and training an officer receives translates into more services and expertise the officer and department can provide to the community. A large amount of the training utilized by law enforcement officers, including training through LEMIT, is funded by state and federal programs, therefore reducing or eliminating additional cost incurred by cities.
Davis stated that he and the officers of the Lexington Police Department will be attending additional training in the coming months, geared towards each officer’s individual strengths, in order to maximize the trainings effectiveness. The goal is to provide the City of Lexington with a well educated, professional, community oriented police department.
