Filing Deadline for City and School Elections Approaching

The filing deadline to run for city and school elections is fast approaching. The elections are scheduled for May 7 and candidates have until March 7 to file. Early voting will begin April 20 and run until May 3.
Only one person has filed to run for Lexington City Council. Tim Brown made his candidacy official last week to run for one of three positions opening this year. Robert “Bubba” Poston’s, Judy Skolaut’s and Cindy Herklotz’s terms expire this May and as of presstime, none of them had officially filed for re-election.
The LISD school board positions held by Jenny Lu Jones, Mark Strain, and Ricky Washington are also up. As of this time, no candidates have filed.
The City of Lexington has 651 registered voters. In last year’s election, which included the Mayor’s race and two City Council positions, only 237 voters participated. There are 3,079 registered voters in the Lexington ISD and in last year’s election, there was a 341-voter turnout.
Giddings has three City Council positions opening currently held by Fred Jones, Leslie Chandler, Jr., and Mary M. Posas. In the Giddings School Board elections, two positions are opening currently held by Stan DeGerolami and Maxine Siegmund. Dime Box School Board positions opening are currently held by Beth Campbell, Glen Spitzenburger, and Carolyn Jones. John Schumann is filling the unexpired term of Keith Schumann at Dime Box ISD. At this time, no person has filed for any of the positions in Giddings or Dime Box.
