McCaul Backs Job Training Act

- Knowing America’s economy grows because of well trained employees working in a solid job market, Congressman Michael McCaul helped pass the Job Training Improvement Act last week. The legislation passed the House 224 to 200.

“We’re improving job training opportunities and making it easier for Americans who want to get back to work. We’ve cut out unnecessary red tape and increased cooperation among those who help Americans find new jobs,” stated Congressman McCaul.

The Job Training Improvement Act brings together organizations, which help people find new jobs and job training. This improved legislation protects the rights of faith-based service providers participating or seeking to participate in the job training system. The bill also allows workers to apply for personal reemployment accounts of up to $3,000 to help unemployed Americans purchase job training and other key services. Finally, by enhancing partnerships between local businesses, community colleges and the local one-stop delivery system, the Job Training Improvement Act will allow Americans to have faster, more efficient access to available jobs in their communities.

“Community colleges are supportive of any improvement to the job training system that will bring more resources and services to where they can be the most effective in helping our at risk students and meeting our work force needs. We hope this bill will help us achieve those goals,” stated Ray Laughter, Vice Chancellor of North Harris Montgomery Community College District.

The House of Representatives approved the Job Training Improvement Act for five years. The bill now moves to the United States Senate for consideration.
