Commissioners’ Court Report March 14
-
In the regular meeting of the Lee County Commissioners’ Court on Monday, March 14, Lee County Treasurer Lindy Krause was appointed as Donations Coordinator for the County’s Emergency Plan. This appointment is the final step toward getting the Lee County Emergency Management Plan designated as being an ‘Advance Plan’ by the State. The current Emergency Plan is classed as ‘Intermediate’. The status as ‘Advance Plan’ is the highest available for a Plan and makes Lee County one of the earlier Counties to reach this stage.
The Commissioners heard the Precinct 3 and 4 Racial Profiling Report in which both Constables reported no instances of Racial Profiling for the past year. This report is required to be presented to the Court by State Law.
After more than a year of struggling with software from Government Services Automation (GSA) for Precincts 3 and 4 Justice of the Peace offices, the Court voted to terminate the contract with GSA and approved purchase of a different software from Hill County Software Solutions. The cost for this will be $19,385 and is within the budget for technology for the County.
The Court adopted a resolution, advocated by the Texas Association of Counties, opposing the proposed 3% Cap on Appraisal Increases now being considered by the State Legislature. The existing Cap is 10%. The reasoning behind this is that a 3% Cap would unfairly shift taxes from rapidly appreciating properties to those remaining relatively stable in value.
In honor of the week of April 10, 2005 designated as County Government Week, the Court voted to move the April 11, 2005 Commissioners’ Court meeting to the 2nd Floor Courtroom to accommodate the expected larger attendance from local school government students.
The Court also voted to authorize County Judge Evan Gonzales to sign the Routine Airport Maintenance Program Contract for 2005 on behalf of the County.
The next Commissioners’ Court meeting will be held in Lexington on Monday, March 28, 2005.
