The Giddings Public Library and Cultural Center continues to receive many memorials to purchase books for our deceased to honor our deceased loved ones and even to honor those who are living. This is a lasting tribute because every time someone checks out these books, they are reminded of the person for whom it was given.
Minnie Christiansen is remembered with two cookbooks, very appropriate, for Minnie was such an excellent cook. Betty Crocker’s Cookbook has nearly 1,000 recipes, one better than the other, with cooking techniques, food terms, and ingredients as well as over 260 color photographs. Souped Up by Sally Sampson has over 100 recipes for easy-to-prepare soups, stews, chilies, and more, and also includes salad dressings, breads, and sweets to complete the meal.
Cotton Mauldin is remembered with Texas Alphabet by James Rice. From Austin to Lorenzo de Zavala and everything in between, the book serves up legends and lore that cover the entire Lone Star State.
Reader’s Digest Mysteries of the Ancient Americas, a memorial for Fred Willard, presents fabulous tales from the New World before Columbus. It deals with the many puzzles and questions that cannot be explained about these splendid civilizations found in the New World.
Texas by Phil Hollenbeck is a memorial for James Hoffman. Filled with photographs and writings, this book attempts to reveal the nature of Texas places and people - another country and a different people.
Isabella (Bella) Proske is remembered with Once Upon a Tart, a cookbook packed with more than 225 easy to prepare recipes from tart crusts to cookies to sandwiches as well as advice for home cooks.
Two books are memorials for Mabry Black Knox. Cross Stitch Alphabet is a collection of 50 original cross-stitch alphabet patterns to personalize any project. Contemporary Quilts: Design Surface, and Stitch is an outstanding approach to quilt designs with valuable tricks and beautiful photographs to help create exceptional projects.
