District Clerk Melcher Retires

District Judge Terry Flenniken is seen swearing in Lisa Teinert as District Clerk following Adeline Melcher’s retirement on March 31st. Melcher had been District Clerk since 1977 and Teinert has been with the Court since 1984.
- Adeline Melcher, Lee County District Clerk since 1977, tendered her resignation last week accepting retirement effective at 5:00 pm, Thursday, March 31. Chief Deputy Clerk Lisa Tienert was appointed as District Clerk to fulfill Melcher’s term, which expires December 31, 2006.

Melcher, who has worked in the District Court since 1975, cited personal reasons for her abrupt retirement. She first worked as a secretary for Judge Placke in 1975, then was appointed District Clerk in April 1977. Melcher has run unopposed during each election following her appointment.

Tienert has worked in the District Clerk office since in 1984. In her twenty-year experience, Tienert says she has seen the office operations grow considerably, doubling the personnel. “The District Clerk’s office has come through many changes, becoming computerized and so forth. The case load has grown significantly as has the reporting requirements from the State of Texas,” said Tienert.

“Since 1984, the office staff has increased from three to six. At the time of Ms. Melcher’s retirement, the combined total years of service between the six employees was 97 years,” stated Tienert, alluding that the staff’s experience will assure the District Clerk’s office operation will be maintained in the same manner as in the past.

Tienert is a native of Lee County and a graduate from Giddings High School. She’s the daughter of Willard and Marjorie Albrecht and is married to Glenn Tienert. The couple has two children, daughter Kalen, who works for an Austin law firm, and 13-year-old, son, Clint, currently a 7th grader at St. Paul Lutheran in Serbin.

Dora Muniz will now act as Chief Deputy Clerk for the District Court. Other employees are deputy clerks, Shelia Kmoch and Virginia Causey, and secretary Lisa Exner.
