Busy Month Includes End of School Activities

Homecoming is just the beginning of one of the busiest months on the calendar for those of us who live in Lexington. With May comes the end of another school year and with the end of the school year comes a rash of activities and ceremonies that include field trips, awards banquets, performances and, of course, graduation. Therefore, here is a list of many of the events you may expect to attend over the next three weeks.
The Lexington Athletic Banquet will be held Monday, May 12, from 6 until 9 p.m. at the Lexington Elementary Cafetorium. A complete catered meal will be served and high school student athletes will be recognized. On Tuesday, May 13, Lexington High School will host its annual Academic Awards presentation at the High School Cafeteria, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Kids in the Lexington Middle School will be able to go on their AR Fieldtrip to Austin Park and Pizza on Tuesday and the Pre-Kindergarten kids will enjoy a fieldtrip to the Austin Zoo that day.
Wednesday, May 14, students in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades at LES will enjoy a morning and afternoon at Eagle Stadium known as their “Field Day”. The students will enjoy a variety of activities during this event that begins at 10 in the morning and goes until 3 that afternoon.
Thursday, May 15, Kindergarteners from LES will travel to Brenham where they will tour the famous Blue Bell Creamery, getting a “taste” of ice cream making up close and personal.
The Annual Spring Band Concert will be held Thursday evening too, beginning at 7 p.m. at the LES Cafetorium.
Sixth graders will enjoy a field trip on Monday, May 19. Seventh graders will go to the Austin Park and Pizza on Tuesday, May 20. That night the elementary students will perform for their families and friends in their annual Music Program, beginning at 7 p.m. Eighth graders will have a fieldtrip on Wednesday, May 21 and second graders will travel to Inner Space Caverns on Thursday, May 22.
The AR Rewards Picnic will be held on Friday, May 23, at the City Park for First through Fifth grades who met their accelerated reading goals for the year. This event will start at nine that morning and conclude at three that afternoon.
Saturday, May 24, LHS band students will go to Fiesta Texas in San Antonio for their annual fieldtrip.
Then, Thursday, May 29, the Lexington Middle School will hold Awards Ceremonies for all grades, with students in the 8th grade being recognized from 9 – 10 a.m.; 7th graders from 10 – 11 a.m. and 6th graders from 11 to noon.
LHS graduates will have a mandatory graduation practice at the gym on Thursday, May 29, beginning at 1 p.m. The last day of school is Thursday, May 29, with an early release, and graduation ceremonies will be held Saturday, May 31, beginning at 8 p.m. at Eagle Stadium.
Whew! Did you get all that? It truly is a busy month!
