- This week, Lexington Elementary School has been celebrating Red Ribbon Week. Students are encouraged to pledge to live drug free and each day this week has had a different theme. The celebration began last Friday, as students wore red and the physical education classes conducted a “March Against Drugs” in the streets around the school.

Other daily themes have included Vote to be Drug Free, Sock it to Drugs, Friends Don’t Let Friends Use Drugs, Let’s Team Up Against Drugs, and Say Boo to Drugs. The counselor and faculty have been discussing the harmful side effects of drugs and how not to get started and how to say no. In 1988 the U. S. Congress proclaimed the last week of October as Red Ribbon Week.
