Giddings Independent School District’s Superintendent Michael Kurht announced this week that the Board of Trustees has chosen former County Judge Robert Lee to fill the vacancy on the Appraisal Board following the resignation of Dorothy Brademan earlier this month.
Kurht commented, “I am confident that Mr. Lee will represent our entity and the taxpayers of Lee County with the utmost care and responsibility.”
In Commissioners’ Court Monday, the Commissioners voted to accept the nomination of Robert Lee as the GISD member to the Appraisal Board.
In other action, the Commissioners voted not to veto action taken on November 5th by the Lee County Appraisal Board when they fired Chief Appraiser Amelia Stayton. The Commissioners were responding to a request made by Stayton in which she had asked them to rescind the Board’s actions.
The Commissioners also voted not to recall their Appraisal Board member Billy Buetow, as had been requested by Stayton. The Commissioners offered their full support to the Appraisal Board and commended them on their dedication and in making difficult decisions.
A major part of the session involved a discussion of the Trans Texas Corridor. The discussion covered concerns about the large land area currently envisioned for the Corridor’s Right of Way, the impact on Water rights and the authority of Water Districts to protect the underground water rights. Other concerns were the impact that the Corridor will have on access from one side of the Corridor to the other, and the potential economic impact of the Corridor on Communities and way of life in Rural areas. The Court encouraged all Citizens to get involved in the Public Input phase of this project and to make their concerns and wishes known to the State and to the Commissioner’s Court.
Other items covered were approval of the sale of one-third undivided interest in 2.00 acres to Bruce M. Cameron, Sr. as trustee for three family trusts. The Court also approved a Radio Tower Agreement concerning radios for the County’s Law Enforcement Agencies, and approval to purchase certain equipment through the HGAC.
The Holiday schedule for 2005 for the County was approved (effectively the same as for 2004), and setting the dates for the regular Court meetings for 2005. As was the case this year, four meetings are scheduled for Lexington, March 28, May 23, August 22, and November 28.
