- This Saturday night, Lexington will ring in the traditional Christmas Holiday Season with their fifth annual Pioneer Festival of Lights, this year sponsored by Round Top State Bank. Members of the Lexington Log Cabins, beginning at 4 pm, will serve a hot meal of chili and stew on the Square at the cabins. Donations for the meal will benefit the Lexington Log Cabins. This year, a Christmas Parade will be included in the events, starting at 5:30 pm.

At dusk, the Tree of Lights will be lit as Santa arrives on the scene at the cabins where he will be available to hear the wishes of all the children of the community. Each child wishing to have their picture taken with Santa will be able to do so for a $5 donation or for a new, unwrapped toy donated to the Lexington Police Department’s Blue Santa project.

The Ministerial Alliance will showcase “The Search for Jesus” this year. “The Search for Jesus” is a walk-through nativity drama. In the past, Lexington has featured a live nativity scene, but this year it has a new twist. It will include a walk-through drama that proclaims the meaning of the birth of Christ. Tours will start soon after the lighting of the Christmas tree on Saturday night and continue for about two hours. On Sunday night December 5, tours will go from 6 pm till 8 pm.

Groups of about 10-12 visitors will follow a shepherd on a 20-25 minute walk-through to view 4 skits or vignettes while looking for baby Jesus. A new group begins about every 10-15 minutes. They stop at each scene and allow actors to talk about the baby, discuss prophecies, etc. The drama is suitable for all ages and is both humorous and informational. Audience members are given a small gift at the end of the drama. There is no charge for the production, but donations towards the project will be accepted.

Hayrides, sponsored by the youth of Lexington Faith Temple Church, will run throughout Saturday evening, starting at the Arbor on the Square and taking riders through town to enjoy the decorations of the neighborhoods.

Other Christmas activities can be enjoyed throughout the county as Dime Box will host their annual Dime Box Christmas this weekend and Giddings will host a production of The Messiah on Sunday, December 12, at 3 pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church located off of Highway 77 and children’s activities at Union Plaza.
