Lexington Area Churches to Host Christmas Program
-
Trinity and St. James Lutheran churches of Fedor and Lexington will have a free concert of Christmas music, on Sunday, December 19, at 7 pm. The concert will be held in the St. James Lutheran church at 320 North Rockdale in Lexington. Three of the congregations’ organists, Janet Campbell, Daniel Krause and Kevin Patschke, will play a selection of 18 favorite Christmas carols and hymns on the organ.
The idea for such a concert originated when St. James was having their organ installed. The organ company from Dresden Germany said that it is a custom in their city for the different churches to host concerts throughout the Christmas season. “We thought this would be a wonderful way for us to start off Christmas week” said Pastor Leif Hasskarl who serves both congregations. “What better way to relax and enjoy this fine music, than when it is played on the ‘King of Instruments’ like we have in our churches. We hope the entire community will benefit from this concert and let it set the tone for their holiday celebrations.” Everyone is warmly invited.
If the concert is a success, future Christmas organ concerts will be rotated between the two churches. St. James is handicap accessible. For further information, please call 979-773-2634.
The United Methodist Churches of Lexington and Blue have announced this season’s Christmas music programs. Blue Methodist Church will present a Christmas Pageant at 7 pm on Wednesday, December 15. The pageant will feature the Methodist Youth Fellowship’s annual dramatization of the birth of Jesus. Following the program, attendees are invited to remain for refreshments and an expected visit from Santa Clause. Blue UMC is located on FM 696 West between Lexington and Elgin.
“A Song in the Air, A Star in the Sky” is the title of the Lexington Methodist Church concert, scheduled for 6:30 pm on Sunday, December 19. The concert will include special solos, duets and trios, in a musical celebration of the Christmas story.
The combined choirs of the two churches, under the direction of Harvey Caughey, will perform a selection of Christmas anthems both nights. The audience will join the choir in singing traditional Christmas carols. Matt Everett and Sheila Caughey will provide accompaniment. Reverend Linda O’Neal is the pastor of both churches.
The public is encouraged to attend and help celebrate the Christmas season.
