Bank Employees Help Nab Forgery Suspect
-
Lexington Police Department Officer B. J. Connolly received a call Tuesday, November 30, to the State Bank located on Hwy 77 in regards to a female attempting to pass a suspected stolen $1,500 check. According LPD, bank officials believed the check to be suspicious and called the account holder who advised the check was stolen and forged.
“The check holder was unaware that checks had been stolen from his vehicle when the bank officer called to confirm the validity of the situation. Upon receiving the phone call from the bank, however, the victim was able to confirm that the checks had been taken,” said Chief Randall J. Davis, LDP.
With the suspect’s vehicle already gone from the bank, LPD officers called for assistance in locating the vehicle. Assisted by DPS Trooper David Villanueva, the suspect’s vehicle was stopped and detained south of Lexington on US 77. Officers interviewed the suspect and other occupants of the vehicle, recovering additional stolen property, including a Giddings female driver’s license. “The stolen driver’s license was a similar match to the suspect attempting to pass the stolen check,” said Davis. “We do believe that the driver’s license victim was an acquaintance to the suspect.”
Charges have not been filed at this time, though expected soon. The matter continues to be under investigation, as well as two additional suspects.
