Texas Czech Genealogical Society Holds Annual Membership and Luncheon
-
The Texas Czech Genealogical Society (TCGS) will hold its Annual Membership and Luncheon on Saturday, January 22. This year, the meeting and luncheon will be held in the Caldwell Civic/Visitor’s Center, 103 Hwy 21 West.
The theme of this year’s meeting and luncheon is “Czechs Gone to Texas” and will include live Czech music by Nolin Werchan and Buster Pavlicek, entertaining and educational presentations, a succulent roast pork lunch in the Czech tradition, a brief business meeting, door prizes, and lots and lots of genealogical exchange and socializing. The program is scheduled from10 am to 2 pm, but the activities get underway at 9:30 am with greeting of arrivals, live music and coffee social.
Educational presentations include “Texas Cotton Ginning – The Video!” by Frank Kalbac. Frank spent endless hours with camera running at the Burton Cotton Gin Festival and Cotton Gin Museum. Doug Kubicek will then give a presentation “Kosmas Spoetzel, the Man Who Never Gave up”. Mr Spoetzel, founder of the Spoetzal Brewery in Shiner, Texas, the oldest brewery in the state, couldn’t give up – the Czechs had to have their Pevo!
The Czech roast pork lunch will be prepared and served by the officers and members of TCGS. The lunch will be followed by a brief business meeting and then more socializing and music!
Of special note, the Caldwell Civic/Visitor’s Center just recently and is a state-of-the-art facility that contains an abundance of local history and heritage for the region, including some Czech Republic authentic clothing.
The public is invited. Registration is $10 per person through January 10 and $12 afterwards. Lunch is included with your registration.
