Lee County Co-op Local Landmark Expands

The Lee County General Store is scheduled to open next month.
- Lee County Co-op will be opening a new location in mid-February that is eight times the size of their existing 1,500 square foot facility. The new store will offer 6,000 square feet of retail space and 6,000 square feet of office and warehouse space and be adjacent to their gas station, which will allow ready access to the store and restrooms.

Their new building will be located across the highway from their old facility on Hwy. 290 West in Giddings.

They are also changing their name to Lee County General Store, to target potential customers that may not have already been shopping at the Co-op.

They will be expanding their product line to include name brand clothing, pet supplies, dog houses, wild bird supplies, gift items, lawn and garden items and an expanded line of tack, including saddles.

The General Store will also offer seminars on pets, wild birds, horses and more. The Lehmann Animal Shelter will hold pet adoption days at the store.

Steve Schautschick will be the manager of the new store and a spokesperson for the Co-op said they currently employ 20 people but expect that number to possibly grow to 30.

The Lee County Co-op opened their doors in 1967.
