Lexington Marine Von Langehennig Injured in Iraq

Von Langehennig
- Von Langehennig, a 2003 graduate of Lexington High School, and the son of William Langehennig, a Lexington City Council member, was serving in Iraq, west of Baghdad, when his team came under ambush by militant insurgents. The incident happened at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 9. Von’s father spoke with him on Friday, January 7, and Von said he had come off of patrol. The report from the Marine Corps said Von was then put on a Quick Response Team, which was dispatched to a checkpoint that had come under fire. The Humvee in which the Marines were traveling was rammed. Von was in the back of the Humvee with a machine gun when it was rammed by insurgents and Von was injured.

Von’s father, William, was told that his injuries included a dislocated left shoulder, a cut on his right shoulder, a cut on his head and internal bleeding. The Marine Corps spokesperson told William that Von was in the care of the Alpha Heart Medical Unit.

An unofficial report said there were five members in the Quick Response Team, one from Round Rock was killed in the attack and the other four were injured.

Private First Class Von Langehennig joined the Marines in January a year ago and was serving with the 1-23rd Weapon’s Company, 81st Platoon.

No other information is available at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Von, his family and all of our troops that are in harms way.
