Report from the Lexington Police Department

Chief Randall Davis
- Chief Davis reports that the Lexington Police Department (LPD) is fully staffed with the recent addition of Officer Daniels, and special emphasis is being placed on increased traffic and narcotic enforcement, crime prevention, police visibility and community relations.

The Lexington Police handled approximately 100 more report calls in 2004 (285 reported incidences) than in 2003 (187 reported incidences). The rise in reported offences is not necessarily indications of a rising crime rate, as Lexington does enjoy a lower crime rate than most cities and towns. However, the more than 33% increase in reports over the past year is a strong indication that the citizens of Lexington are reporting more incidents to local officials.

Chief Davis stated that he believes the past year’s trend and rise in reporting is the result of the citizens of Lexington and the LPD working together for a common goal. Chief Davis reports that LPD maintains an open door policy and will continue that open door policy and strongly encourages citizen input.
