Von Langehennig has been released from the Alph Heart Hospital in Iraq and is expected to return to his unit after being wounded in an ambush almost two weeks ago. Von will be put on light duty for a period of time before returning to his unit.
His injuries included a dislocated left shoulder, a cut on his right shoulder, a cut on his head and internal bleeding. He was part of a five-member quick response team in which four were injured and one was killed when insurgents rammed their Humvee.
Von spoke with his father, William Langehennig, a Lexington City Council member, last week and expressed sadness over the loss of his friend, Cpl. Joseph E. Fite, who was the member killed in the ambush that took place on Sunday, January 9, at about 1 p.m. in the Al Anbar Province west of Baghdad. Cpl. Fite, 23, was from Round Rock and a reservist assigned to the Marine Corps 1st Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment of the 4th Marine Division in Austin.
Private First Class Von Langehennig, a 2003 graduate from Lexington, joined the Marines in January 2004 and was serving with the 1s Battalion 23rd Weapon’s Company, 81st Platoon.
