Legislature Designates Giddings as “Festival Capital of Texas”

- AUSTIN—State Representative Robby Cook announced Thursday that the Texas House of Representatives passed a Concurrent Resolution designating Giddings, Texas as the “Festival Capital of Texas.”

From the National Old Timer’s Rodeo to the Chocolate Lover’s Festival, the Giddings area is home to over 200 events, offering tourists and citizens with unique experiences 52 weeks out of the year.

Some of these events, such as Wendish Fest and the Lee County Fair and Rodeo have been celebrated for almost 100 years and encompass varied cultural and ethnic traditions important to pass down to younger generations.

The location of Giddings, at the intersection of US 290 and 77, allows easy access for a day trip for the Lee County Heritage Valentine’s Day Gala or a weekend visit to Nails Creek State Park.

Additional area events include the “Friends of the Depot” Wine and Jazz Festival, Rotary Club Country Music Monday, the “Word Wrangler” Festival organized by Giddings Public Library and Cultural Center and PBR 4th of July Bull Riding, among others.

“Not only are these community events vital to the growing tourism industry in Giddings and surrounding areas, these cultural events provide the opportunity to celebrate our rich heritage. This is a special honor to bestow upon the community of Giddings, and I am proud to represent such a dynamic area,” Representative Cook stated Thursday.
