Custom Car Winners

- Three residents of Blue took first place honors in their class at the 31st Annual Custom Car and Hot Rod Show held in Austin last weekend.

Stuart McHenry participated for the fifth year and brought home a first place trophy for his 1966 Pontiac GTO, which was entered in the 1958-67 Original Restored Class. Every year he has entered this car, he has won first place. This year, he got an added bonus as his car won the coveted People’s Choice Award, even beating out Lance Armstrong’s custom 1970 GTO, which was recently featured on the TLC channel show Overhaulin’. Overhaulin’ is hosted by Chip Foose, a world famous designer/car builder, who was the designer of Armstrong’s car, making Stuart’s win a little sweeter.

Stuart also won a first place trophy for Outstanding Paint in the show.

Stuart works with his father, John McHenry, in their custom auto body business located in Blue. He oversees the body work and custom restoration portion of the business.

The other Blue residents coming home with first place wins in Austin were Bill and Traci Laursen, who won with their 1984 Ford Mustang race car, and Sharon and Roddy Dill, who won with their 1952 Ford Pick-up. This was the Laursen’s third year to compete in the Austin show, where they won Best of Show Race Car two years ago. McHenry Custom Auto Body did all their custom paint work with air brush and flames as well as the paint work on the Dill truck.

Of the six entries in the show that were painted by McHenry Custom Auto Body, five took first place and one took third.
