- Five Lady Eagles were selected to the 26-AA all district first team. Two more made the second team and two were given honorable mention. Also five Lady Eagles met the requirements for Academic all-district recognition. Catcher Jessica Parish, pitcher Rachel Knipstein, infielder Ally Abshire and outfielders Ashton Johnston and Lauren Hattemer were selected all-district in voting by district coaches. Emily Jatzlau and Heather Mills were voted to the second team. Sara Knipstien and Haley Jatzlau were given honorable mention accolades. Parish led the team in most offensive categories. She batted .474 for the season with five homer runs, 35 RBI’s and 12 doubles. Parish is a sophomore and will be back to lead the Lady Eagles two more seasons. Rachel Knipstein pitched all but one of Lexington’s games this season. Her season record was 15-10 with an ERA of 2.23. Rachel struck out 228 hitters this season. Abshire played shortstop most of the season. She led the team in triples with three for the year. Abshire was constantly on base scoring 29 times during the season. Ashton Johnston batted .291 for the year playing a solid left field for the Lady Eagles’ playoff team. She used her speed to tie for the team lead in stolen bases. Hattemer also was solid in the centerfield for the team. Hatty batted .273 for the year with 25 runs scored. All the all-district team members return for Lexington except for Hattemer who graduates. The second teamers Jatzalu a senior and Mills a freshman made significant contributions for the team. Mills batted .245 and Jatzlau batted .239. Both young ladies made timely hits for Lexington late in the season. The five Lady Eagles getting Academic All-District recognition were: Ashton Johnston, Ally Abshire, Haley Jatzlau, Heather Mills, and Courtney Clifford. These young ladies were sharp players but had even sharper pencils in the classroom. The complete all-district selections are: MVP: Kayce Walker, Franklin, Sr.; Off MVP: Ashley Klores, Franklin, Sr.; Def. The entire softball district has been eliminated in their first playoff games. Lexington and Onalaska lost in the first round. Franklin got a first round bye and then was bombed by East Bernard 18-3 and 14-2 in their first action. Trinity and New Waverly were both eliminated in the first round of play in the baseball playoffs. Maybe our district was not that strong in baseball and softball. We had a great time going to the ’73 and ’88 class reunions. We saw grads and former students that hadn’t been seen [by us] since graduation or earlier. |
