October 24, 1939 – March 15, 2006 Jerry Don Callens of Lincoln died at his home on March 15, 2006. Funeral services were held at Eagle’s Wing Christian Center on March 17, 2006 with Rev. David Harkreader officiating. Burial was in the Belmont Cemetery in Belmont, LA. He was born in Belmont, LA on October 24, 1939. His parents were William Jackson and Ola Mae Chisim Callens. He was married to Nelda Jones on January 28, 1960 in Zwolle, LA. He worked as Regional Manager for Aquilla Gas Pipeline. Surviving Jerry are his wife, Nelda of Lincoln, 2 sons, Kevin Don and Kim Callens of San Antonio and Micah Ray and Theresia Callens of Laneville; 9 grandchildren, Calley Rae, Mathew Ray, Zane, Call, Courtney and Christine Callens and Michael, Logan and Wyatt Wendland; sister, Louise and Sam Prunty of Shreveport,LA, sister-in-law, Sarah Callens of Kilgore and numerous precious nieces and nephews. Jerry Don graduated from Pleasant Hill High School where he was an All American in high school basketball. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Eagle’s Wing Christian Center in Lexington. March 16, 1938 – March 19, 2006 A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 25 at 2:00 PM at Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Rockdale with Rev. Carl Hudson and Rev. Ernest Brownlee of Dallas officiating. Jerry passed away at Christopher House in Austin on March 19, 2006. He was born in Beaumont on March 16, 1938 to Jerry E. Cobb, Sr. and Marjorie Curry Cobb. He had lived in Rockdale for 22 years and was a tool attendant for Fluor Global at ALCOA, Rockdale Operations. He was married to Sharon Brownlee on July 26, 1985 in Cameron, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Rockdale, 2 sons, Jerry B. Beckman of New Jersey and Jerry Lee Cobb of Louisiana, 3 step sons, Tony Bryce of Beaumont, Tom Bryce of Galveston and Tracy Bryce of Houston; daughters, Franci Carter of New York and Wendy Cobb of Louisiana and step daughter, Tana Savelli of Lumberton; a sister, Joetta Hatfield of Bellvue, Washington; five grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. He was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Rockdale and was a member of the Rockdale Country Club for 18 years. June 19, 1915 – March 18, 2006 Gertrude Hart, 90, formerly of Rockdale, passed away at Park Place Manor in Belton on March 18, 2006. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale on March 22, 2006. Rev. John Warren of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rockdale will officiate. Burial is to be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Gertrude was born on June 19, 1915 in Freestone County, Texas. Her parents were Samuel S. and Myrtle Anderson Wortham. She married David Henry Hart, Jr. on October 13, 1934 in Dallas. She was a homemaker and lived in Rockdale for 48 years prior to moving to Temple five years ago. When in Rockdale, she was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. She loved to play golf and bridge. She also loved to travel. Her husband, David and her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Harris and husband Gordon of Austin and Patricia Rogge and husband, William of The Grove; grandchildren, Melissa Reynolds and husband, Mark, Christopher Harris, Debbie Peterson and husband, Michael, Gregory Harris and wife, Theresa and Michael and Andrea Rogge; great grandchildren, Phillip and Sarah Peterson, Emily and Claire Reynolds, Shannon Whitley, Ashley Harris, Alyssa and Andrew Rogge, and Vicente Rogge; great great grandchild, Mary Madson Whitley. She is also survived by her sister, Doris Johnson of Rockdale. Serving as pallbearers were Ron Johnson, Michael Rogge, Gregory Harris, B.O. July 6, 1954 – March 14, 2006 Kay James of Lincoln passed away on March 14, 2006 at St. Mark’s Medical Center in LaGrange. Funeral services were held on March 19 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner officiating. Burial was in the Giddings City Cemetery. Kay was born on July 6, 1954 in Graham, Texas to Henry and Doris Laverne Garner Wood. She was married to Carl James, Sr for 36 years. She was a manager at Whataburger and had been employed with Mary’s Little Lambs Daycare in Giddings. She also was a member of the Lincoln Volunteer Fire Department. She is survived by her husband, Carl of Lincoln, 2 sons, Preston Jr. and Brooke James of Odessa and Brian and Sherry James of Columbus, GA, 4 grandchildren: Caitlyn, Morgan and Preston James III of Odessa and Grace James of Columbus, GA; her mother, Doris Wood of Arlington; sister, Shirley and Bill Link of Waco; 2 brothers, Coy and Sharon Wood of Houston and Andy and Kathy Wood of Brackenridge; mother-in-law, Norma Koenig of Lincoln, sister-in-law, Eva Koenig of San Marcos and brother-in-law, Walter Koenig of Springtown. Preceding her in death are her father, Henry Wood and father-in-law, Silas Koenig. December 21, 1921 – March 20, 2006 Evelyn Beard Mooney was born in Tanglewood, Texas on December 21, 1921. Her parents were William Fletcher and Zula (Pounders) Beard. In May 1944, she married Henry E. Mooney in Bastrop. She was a homemaker. Evelyn passed away on Monday, March 20, 2006 at her home in Tanglewood. Rev. Chuck Salmon will lead a memorial service on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Forest Grove Christian Church. Surviving Evelyn are her sons, Henry E. Mooney of Tanglewood and Fletcher Beard Mooney of Dickinson, her daughters, Carolyn Mooney Wright of Rockdale, Janna Mooney Thomas of Dickinson and Marsha Mooney Hembree of Abilene. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Her husband, Henry, her parents and a brother, James O. Beard preceded her in death. January 24, 1939 – March 19, 1006 Barnett Kelley, 67 passed away Sunday, March 19, 2006 at his home in Lexington. Rev. Linda O’Neal of Lexington United Methodist Church will officiate at the funeral service at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in the Hugh Wilson Cemetery at Tanglewood. Pallbearers are Damon Burlin, Gus Zschech, Keith Bexley, Tracy Woodward, Jeff Brown and Jerry Hibbeler. Honorary pallbearers are Jamie Woodward, Clyde Bexley, W.A. Brown and Bill Woodward. Barney was born in Lexington on January 24, 1939 and was a lifelong resident. His parents were Hardney and Clara (Eller) Kelley. Barney and Jessie Wade were married in Lexington on April 2, 1967. He retired from TU Electric Power Plant in Rockdale in 1989. He had worked as a Boiler Mechanics helper. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers, Billie Kelley and Charles Kelley, sister, Linda Beth Kelley and a nephew Lloyd Kelley. Barney is survived by his wife, Jessie of Lexington, son Steve Kelley and wife Amber of Giddings, daughters, Deborah Steinback and husband James of Pin Oak and Cindy Kelley of Lexington; grandchildren, Ashley and Andrew Steinback of Pin Oak; nephew, Dale Kelley and wife Susan and their daughters, Lauren and Angela all of Houston. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He loved to fish and was a wolf hunter. November 17, 1925 – March 19, 2006 Jodie Billie Sparks was born November 17, 1925 in Hearne, Texas to Lillie Mae Denman and Fred Teaman Sparks. He reached his heavenly home on Sunday, March 19, 2006. He attended school in Gause and Milano. He later attended Apostolic Faith Bible College in Baxter Springs, KS, where he met his future wife, Florence (Patsy) Peterson. They were married on August 16, 1949 in Perryton, Texas at the Full Gospel Church. The Sparks spent the next 57 years in the ministry, both as evangelists and pastors. They established the Calvary Temple, now known as Victory Family Church in 1964, where their son and daughter-in-law Marlon and Kathy Sparks have pastored for the past 24 years. They also pastored Gause Full Gospel Church for 17 ½ years, as well as churches in other states. In 1965, Rev. Sparks also began a career in law-enforcement as a patrolman in Perryton, Texas. He was later a deputy sheriff in Perryton under-sheriff in Beaver County, OK, Assistant Chief of Police in Cameron, Texas and Chief of Police in Hearne, Texas. He retired from the Beaver County Sheriff’s Department in 1996, and from his last pastorate, Spearman Union Church in 2005. Rev. Sparks is survived by his wife, Florence (Patsy) of Perryton, 3 sons, Marlon and wife Kathy of Perryton, Jerry and wife, Alice of Irving, and Jerry Steele and wife Bambie of Cameron. Also, four daughters, Brenda Huddleston and husband, Troy of Milano, Linda Servantez of College Station, Vicki Wadlington and husband, Wade of Milano, and Renee McQueen and Russell Stimmell of Thorndale. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Lillie Mae Burkes and step father F. B. Burkes, his father Fred Sparks, a sister La Vera Sparks and two brothers, Fred Sparks and John (Leroy) Sparks. A funeral service was held Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Perryton, officiated by his son, Rev. Marlon Sparks of Perryton, Rev. Mark Short of Southwest City, MO, and Rev. Ken Willard of Liberal, KS. A second service will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at the Gause Full Gospel Church at 10:30 a.m., officiated by Rev. Marlon Sparks, Rev. Calvin Springer of Rockdale and Rev. Lendon Petty of Commerce. Burial will be in the Milano City Cemetery. March 2, 1924 – March 17, 2006 Funeral services were held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockdale on March 20, 2006, for Maurine Mireles who passed away at her home in Rockdale on March 17, 2006. She was 82. Burial was in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale. Rev. Edwin Kagoo of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockdale officiated. Maurine was born in Rockdale on March 2, 1924 to Cleofas and Bernice Raymond Tovar. She lived all her life in Rockdale. On May 9, 1943, she and Francisco “Frank” Mireles were married in Rockdale. She was a homemaker whose hobbies included gardening and taking care of her flowers in her yard. She enjoyed cooking and loved to attend her grandchildren’s sporting events. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Her husband, Frank, and her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by 4 sons, Frank Mireles, Jr. and wife, Victoria of Santa Clarita, CA, Robert Mireles and wife Lydia of Tyler, John Mireles of Rockdale and Mike Mireles of Temple; 5 daughters, Mary Mireles of Rockdale, Paula Sides and husband, Robert of Rockdale, Maurine Mendez and husband, Amelio of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Rosie Johnson and husband, J.B. of Rockdale and Rebecca Green and husband, Richard of Rockdale. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. January 16, 1927 – March 14, 2006 Funeral services were held on March 17, 2006 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral home in Rockdale for Charles D. Jones, 79, who passed away on March 14, 2006 in the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. Rev. Trish Holland of Austin conducted the services. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Charles had lived in Rockdale most of his life. He was born in Italy, Texas on January 16, 1927 to Elmer V. and Pearl G. (Smith) Jones. He married Roberta Nuss on February 18, 1948 in New Baden, Texas. He worked as a railroad telegrapher/dispatcher with Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific Railroad for 38 years, retiring in 1986. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jones of Rockdale, sons, Allan Jones and wife, Karen also of Rockdale, Brian Jones and wife Nancy of New Braunfels; daughter, Beverly Earnst and husband Don of Rockdale; grandchildren, Stephanie Earnst Porter, Jennifer Grace Earnst, Mark Allan Jones, Jennifer Claire Jones, Leanne Nicole Jones, Kate Elizabeth Jones, and Rachel Leigh Jones; great grandchildren, Brittany Elaine Porter, Amber Marie Porter, Michael Allan Jones, Kaylin Jones, Tanner Jones, Christian Jones and Jacob Porter. He is also survived by his brother, Homer Jones and wife Laura of Rockdale. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Mike Jones, grandson, Josh Jones and his brother Edward Jones. Charles was a WWII veteran of the US Marine Corps. He was a member of the Rockdale Masonic Lodge, Past Cub Scout Master, Former Board Member of the Rockdale Country Club, Former Little League Coach, Former Sunday School Superintendent for Peace Lutheran Church-Rockdale, a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rockdale. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his favorite partner, his wife, Bobbie. He loved to make Christmas Arts and Crafts. He also enjoyed collecting railroad memorabilia. May 28, 1931 – February 28, 2006 Funeral services for Alice Lee Washington, 74, of Lincoln, were held March 4, 2006 at Bateman Memorial Center in Giddings. Rev. Dave Young and Rev. Richard L. Washington officiated, with burial in the Leo Cemetery near Lexington. Mrs. Washington died February 28, 2006, at Country Care Plex in Giddings. Alice was born May 28, 1931 in the Doak Springs Community, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Wilson) Hodge. She married Melvin Washington, Sr. on November 4, 1949 and was employed at Lexington ISD as an Early Childhood teacher and bus driver. She retired in 1993, and enjoyed working with children and serving in her church. Mrs. Washington was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Melvin Washington, Sr.; sons, Melvin, Jr. and Calvin; sister, Alicia Sanders-Jackson; grandsons, Reji, Blake, Kenny; and daughter-in-law, Naomi. Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Ward of Austin, Marilyn Alexander of Lexington, and Cassandra and John Fontenot of Houston; sons, Kenneth (Major), Frank (Mojo), and Richard (Ricky) of Lincoln; brothers, Thomas D. Sanders of Houston and Randy Sanders of Bryan; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three daughters-in-law; two sons-in-law; and the foster grandmother to over 60 boys. June 2, 1943 – March 18, 2006 Rev. Don Meador will conduct funeral services on Thursday, March 23, 2006, at First United Methodist Church in Giddings for Terry Key, who passed away at his home in Spring, Texas on March 18, 2006. He was 62. Burial will be in the Giddings City Cemetery. Terry was born on June 2, 1943 in Corsicana, Texas to William Cecil and Essie Elizabeth Olson Key. He was married to Elaine Lehmann on August 1, 1964 in St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester, Texas. He was an electrical engineer. Surviving him are his wife, Elaine of Spring, sons, Kevin and wife Jennifer Key of League City and Kyle and wife Jenna Key of Dacula, GA; grandchildren, Rebecca and Allan Key of League City and Katherin and Samuel Key of Dacula, GA; sister, Linda and husband Jerald Kirk of Waller; brothers, Michael and wife Beverly Key of Waco and Kenneth Key also of Waco; mother-in-law, Louise Lehmann of Giddings.
