Edwin Lee Albrecht, Sr.

January 5, 1951 – April 3, 2006


Memorial services were held on April 8, 2006 for Edwin Lee Albrecht, Sr. of Manheim, who passed away on April 3, 2006 in Brackenridge Hospital. Rev. James Linderman conducted the services in Mr. Albrecht’s home.

Edwin was born on January 5, 1951 in Giddings to Nerbert Herbert and Vivian R. Horn Albrecht. He was a repairman for Iselt’s Shop and water wells. He is survived by his son, Edwin Lee Albrecht, Jr. of Paige, his daughter, Thresa Albrecht of Houston, mother, Vivian Ruth Stobb of Manheim, brother, Kenneth and Patricia Albrecht of Manheim, 3 sisters, Dianna Burnett of Wharton, Marilyn and Edwin Londberg of Waco, and Ronda and Eric Thompson of Paige. He was preceded in death by his father, and his step father, Reichard Neill Stobb.


Louis Theodore Schatte, Sr

January 18, 1925 – April 6, 2006

Louis Schatte, Sr., died on April 6, 2006 at St. Mark’s Medical Center in LaGrange. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wilburn Michalk on April 9, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings, followed by burial in the Giddings City Cemetery.

Louis was born in Giddings to Johann and Louise Umlang Schatte on January 18, 1925. On September 21, 1947, he was married to Thelma Zoch. He was a farmer and rancher.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma of Giddings, 5 sons, Thomas Louis and Romayne Schatte of Salado, Louis T. Schatte Jr. of Giddings, David R. Schatte of Austin, Benjamin B. and Julie Schatte of Giddings and Kenneth D. and Lisa Schatte of California; 3 daughters, Suzanne (Zammit) and Dan Carter of Leander, Marlene Hurt of Indiana and Sharon and Gerald Birkelbach of Giddings; 15 grandchildren, Thomas Schatte, Joshua Randall Zammit, Caleb Philip Zammit, Jared Brandon Lehmann, Johathan Eric Lehmann, Ronald Duane and Quinn Schatte, Luke Andreas Schatte, Kyle Benjamin Schatte, Laura Anne Schatte, Rachel Leah (Zammit) and James Hagan, Sarah Elizabeth Hurth, Rebecca Lynn Hurt, Mikayla Blair Schatte and Jennifer Lynn (Schatte) and Keith Glona; 5 step grandchildren, Brooke and Justin Birkelbach, Avery Madyson Davis, Kelly and Ken Carter; a great grandson, Joshua Kaden Schatte of Giddings; brother, Henry and Hermina Schatte of Houston; sisters Lillian Wieder of Giddings, Marie Fritsche of Houston, Elizabeth Kappler of Giddings and Frances and Herman Gersch of Northrup.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Ronald Wayne Schatte, brothers, Christopher A., Edwin A. and Johnny Schatte; sisters, Dorothy Schatte Wieder and Ottillie Schatte Prellop; sons-in-law, Walter Randall Zammit and Joseph Randall Hurt.

Frances Mariah Stephens Camp

June 28, 1911 – April 7, 2006

Graveside services were held on April 11 at the Locklin Cemetery at San Gabriel for Mrs. Frances Camp, 94, who passed away at the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale on April 7, 2006. Visitation was held at the Camp home in San Gabriel where she had lived for 70 years. Vicar Ann Mathews led the services. Pallbearers were Stephen Simank, Drew Jackson, Marshall Jackson, Jason Dodson, Ryan Carpenter, Hardin Camp, Tres Flick and Joe Lopez. Honorary pallbearer was John Camp Simank.

She was born on June 28, 1911 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Charles and Vera (Asher) Stephens. She and Ike Camp were married on October 10, 1936 at First Presbyterian Church in San Antonio. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Rockdale.

She graduated from High School in San Antonio and attended the University of Texas where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and was selected to be a Blue Bonnet Belle. She also attended Incarnate Word College in San Antonio.

She was a former member of the Thursday Reading Club in Rockdale.

Her husband Ike and brother, Charles Day Stephens, Jr. preceded her in death. She is survived by her son Charles H. Camp of Costa Rica and daughters, Carole Simank and husband Dennis of San Gabriel, Nancy Mariah Jackson and husband Craig of Longview and Mary Frances Gauntt of Longview. Eight grand- children and seven great grandchildren also survive her.

Russell C. Crawford, Jr.
“Cowboy Crawford”

January 10, 1925 - March 31, 2006


Russell Crawford, Jr. aka Cowboy Crawford, 81, died on March 31, 2006 in Rockdale where he had lived for the past 4 years. Prior to that he had lived in Atoka and Shelby County, Tennessee. Funeral services were held at Woodhaven Funeral Home, followed by burial in Woodhaven Memory Gardens in Millington, Tennessee.

Russell was born on January 10, 1925 in Memphis, Tennessee to Russell C. and Blanche (Martin) Crawford, Sr. He was the owner and operator of R.C. Crawford Inc. He worked for 55 years as a drilling and heavy construction contractor. He was married to Mary Ann Chandley in 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, Mary Blanche Cochran and Joe Chandley Crawford and two brothers, Thomas D. and James Wilson Crawford.

Surviving him are his wife, Mary Ann of Rockdale, sons, Russell C. Crawford III of Round Rock and George Martin Crawford of Kingwood, Texas; brother, William M. Crawford of San Diego; grandchildren: Russell C. Crawford IV, Rebecca Lynn Derr, Andrew Martin Crawford, Jeremy Shannon Forbis, J. Chandley Crawford, Thomas Jefferson Cochran, Carl Justin Crawford, Emily Jane Crawford and Mary Hannah Groce Crawford; great grandchildren, Lauren Ann Crawford, Jacob Jefferson Cochran and Brantley Martin Crawford.

Russell served in the US Army during WWII. He was a member of the Rockdale VFW Post 6525 and former member of the Millington VFW Post 7175 and past Post Commander of the Memphis VFW Post 1965.

Paula (Ruthven) Kulow

June 3, 1971 – March 28, 2006

Paula Kulow passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at the age of 34 years. She was born in Conroe, Texas on June 3, 1971. She is survived by her fiancé, Pat Kelly, children, Katherine, Jinnifer, Cody and Matthew; her mother, Diana Pelham, her father Bobby Ruthven, sisters, Teresa Harrell and fiancé Marty Holms and Donna Green; one brother, Jeff Zumpe, Grandmothers, Betty Sprawl and Maxine Ruthven; nieces, Kyrra Ruthven, Charlien Harrell, and Sarah Green; uncles and aunts, Jack and Trink Ruthven, Jerry and Gini Ruthven, Lanny and Linda Ruthven, Stanley Ruthven and Connie and Danny Wilhite. She was preceded in death by her granddads, Melvin Ruthven and Paul Klepfer.

Visitation was held Sunday, April 2, 2006 at Smith Addison Funeral Home in Conroe. A Celebration of Life was held on Monday, April 3, 2006 at Smith Memorial Park.

Paula was baptized into Christ at the Adina Christian Church when she was fifteen. She attended Lexington High School for two semesters, then graduated from Conroe High School. She continued her education and became a nurse, working in doctor’s office.

She was a lovely lady, full of life and happiness. She never saw a stranger and loved to pull jokes on other people. She and her sister spent their summers with their grandparents at Blue. Lots of good memories. We loved you, Pa and Nannie.

Valerio Saul Orocio

June 3, 1985 - April 2, 2006

Valerio Saul Orocio, 20, of Giddings, died in an auto accident on April 2, 2006. Funeral services were held April 6, 2006 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Giddings with Father Jim Olnhausen officiating. Burial was in the Giddings City Cemetery.

Valerio was born in Mexico on June 3, 1885 to Valerio Orocio and Martina Rodriguez. He graduated from Giddings High School in 2002. He worked as a skilled laborer with Brad & Sons Pipeline Construction.

He is survived by his parents, Valerio and Martina Orocia of Giddings; 3 brothers, Julio, Victor and Jorge Orocio of Giddings; grandparents, Florentino and Maria Orocio of Giddings and Juan Rodriguez of Mexico. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles: Victor and Laura Orocio, Joel and Rosa Orocio, Hesiquio and Maria Orocio, Florentino, Jr. and Irma Orocio, Maria Orocio, Salvador Orocio, Paulina and Anselmo Segundo, Sylviana and Juan Alvarado, and Griselda Orocio all of Giddings, Guadalupe Rodriguez, Salvador Rodriguez, Josefina Rodriguez, Engracia Rodriguez and Noel Rodriguez all of Mexico, Juan Rodriguez, Jr., Jaime Rodriguez and Juan Gabriel Rodriguez all of Alabama. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Isidra Garcia and sister, Martina.

Wade L. Smith, Jr.

November 17, 1916 – April 4, 2006

Wade L. Smith, Jr., 89, died on April 4, 2006 in the Scott & White Hospital in Temple. He had lived in Rockdale for the past 51 years and was formerly of Grapeland. The memorial service was held on April 7, 2006 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Pastor Brian Dunks of First Baptist in Salado and Chaplain Buddy Burton officiating. Pallbearers were Aaron Carder, Ben Carder, Garrett Smith, Dylan Fisher, Derrick Font, Matt Schnitzler, Bob Tanner and Joe Schroeder. Honorary pallbearers were Scott White, Donnie Marek, Roger Booker, Graham Dickerson, Ernie Cates, Clifford Bartlett and R.C. Patschke.

Wade was born in Grapeland, Texas on November 17, 1916. His parents were Wade L. and Anabel (Davis) Smith. He married Violet Maxine Tanner on April 25, 1953 in Elkhart, Texas. He was a Control Operator with I.G.C. in Rockdale for 29 years, retiring in 1983. He was an avid sports fan (Longhorns) and gardener. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II and the Korean War. He served on the USS Wasp for 12 years and was discharged as Chief Petty Officer. His parents and his sister, Jean Kennedy preceded him in death.

Surviving him are is wife, Mickey of Rockdale, son Wade L. Smith, III of Victoria, daughters, Pamela J. Carder and husband Randy of Temple, Kathlyn D. Smith of New York and Barbara A. Smith of Elk Grove, California; sister, Joyce Pinchback of Woodville, Texas. 9 grandchildren also survive him.

Wade was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rockdale. Memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church, PO Box 168, Rockdale, Texas 76567.
