Effie Mae Bailey

June 15, 1912 – April 15, 2006

Effie Mae Bailey, 93, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at her home in Belton where she had lived since 1995. Prior to that she lived in Rockdale for 37 years. Graveside service was held on April 17 in the IOOF Cemetery in Rockdale. Rev. Bill Whaley of Murray Street Church of Christ officiated.

She was born on June 15, 1912 in Cameron to Frank and Rosa (Eikenhorst) Kolia. She and Alfred B. Bailey were married June 6, 1930, and she was a homemaker. Her husband, Alfred, parents and brother, Eddie Kolia preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Helen Jane Lehmann and husband Rudi of Belton and her sister, Vera Morello of Houston.

Thomas W. Blocker

October 14, 1931 - April 7, 2006

Thomas Blocker was born in Milam County, near Cameron on October 14, 1931 and was a life long resident of the Sharp and San Gabriel area. He was self employed as a TV repairman for many years.

He was a graduate of Sharp High School and attended the University of Houston for two years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the US Army. He died at Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale on April 7, 2006. Graveside services were held April 10 at the Urban Cemetery near Sharp.

Thomas is survived by his cousins, Linda Secor-Johnson of Richardson and Jacquelyn Deming of Fredricksburg; uncle and aunt, Fred and Faye Clark of Rockdale.

Mary C. Bownds

September 26, 1910 - April 11, 2006

Mrs. Mary Bownds passed away on April 11, 2006 in Houston, Texas. She was 95 years of age. Graveside services were held on Friday, April 14, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. in the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington. Rev. Michael Luce of First Baptist Church in Lexington officiated.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Bownds and her parents Nick and Josephine Ciaccio.

Gary Fussell

November 5, 1916 - April 11, 2006

Gary Fussell of Round Rock, passed away at his home on April 11, 2006. He was 89. Funeral services were held at Beaman High Prairie Cemetery in Dime Box on April 13, 2006 at 10 a.m. Brother David Johnson officiated.

Gary was born on November 5, 1916 in Sabine County, Texas to William Lon and Lena Neal Fussell. He worked as a locomotive engineer for Southern Pacific Railroad from which he retired. He was a former Fire Chief of Oakhurst VFD and a former Mayor of Oakhurst. He was a member of Albert City Johnson SCV in Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Gary Fussell, Jr., wife and numerous beloved brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his son, Michael and Diane Shofner of Round Rock, daughter, Gaylonn and Jerry Wayne Bernhard of California; grandson, Gary Fussell of Houston; 8 granddaughters: Anne-Marie and Mark Henson of Thrall, Marnie and Nick Rundquist of Round Rock, Karen and Craig Custer of Houston, Lisa Fussell of Dallas, Robyn, Crystal, Scarlet and Angelique Bernhard of California; great grandson Nicholas Henson of Thrall and 5 great granddaughters, Katherine Henson of Thrall, Nikki and Kasey Custer of Houston and Ashlyne and Farrah Bernhard of California, and sister Ivy Falts of Houston.

Morris Allen Hairston, Sr.

January 30, 1936 – March 10, 2006

A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, April 15 at Sandy Creek Cemetery for Morris Allen Hairston, Sr. Mr. Hairston, 70, passed away at his home in Thorndale on March 10, 2006.

He was born on January 30, 1936 in Houston to Orbie John and Marie Alberta (Floyd) Hairston. He owned and operated a small engine repair shop. He is survived by three sisters, Elsie Dickey of Rockdale, Martha H. Naron of Conroe and Louise Story of Garrison.

Zeke Silva

November 26, 1931 - April 8, 2006

On November 26, 1931, an angel was born to Sidronio and Pauline Moreno Silva in Milano, Texas. He was one of nine children. He was a graduate of Milano High School and received his BS from Texas A&M. Zeke served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

Zeke met the love of his life, Carmen Zapata and married her on February 12, 1955 and then a short year later, he started his journey and became the best husband, Dad and PoPo.

Zeke was project engineer and computer programmer with Ashland Oil and Gas. He passed away Saturday April 8 in the Central Texas Veterans Hospital in Temple. He reached the age of 74 years. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon, perfect for working around outside or in his workshop.

He entered heaven knowing to greet him would be Michael, his son. Also greeting him are his dad and mom and his brother, Sidronio Silva, Jr.

Zeke leaves behind to cherish the most wonderful memories, his wife of 51 years, Carmen of Rockdale. Also left to live his legacy are their children: Rose Rivera and husband Steve of Dallas, Fred Silva and wife Maureen of Round Rock, Olivia Parker and husband Sheldon of Austin, Becky Hinojosa and husband Raudel of Austin, Lydia Jaster and husband Paul of Pflugerville and Elena Olmos and husband Victor of Dallas. PoPo leaves behind the grandchildren he loved most of all: Valerie, Bryan, Stephanie, Raudel, Jr., Thomas, Steven, Nick, Guy, Jessica, Lisa, Michelle, Brandon and Cody. He was blessed to meet and love his first great grandchild, Brianna.

Zeke loved his family and is survived by his siblings, Paul Silva and wife Helen of Milano, Terri Caywood of Rockdale, Rachel Aguilar and husband Domingo of Rockdale, Frank Silva and wife Donna of Crown Point, IN, Alice Davilla and husband Lonnie of Houston, Reuben Silva and wife Angie of Milano and Bobby Silva and wife Annie of Houston.

Zeke never knew a stranger, and he leaves many friends and relatives to cherish his warm greeting and the wonderful smile.

Dad, as you requested, you’re taking a fork in your hand because you believed the best was yet to come. Daddy, we love you and will always miss you. Gig ‘Em Aggies!

Services were Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Rockdale with Rev. Calvin Springer officiating.

Juanita Margaret Thompson

April 12, 1921 - April 11, 2006

Juanita Thompson, 84, of Rockdale passed away in the Rockdale Community Assisted Living Center in Rockdale on April 11, 2006. A Memorial Service was held in the Rockdale Community Assisted Living Center. Graveside services were held on Wednesday, April 12 in Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe.

Juanita was born in Ennis, Texas on April 12, 1921. She is survived by her son, Dr. Peyton Thompson of Rockdale and her daughter, Elizabeth Thompson of Rye Brook, New York. Three grandchildren, Matthew Haley, Ashley and Troy Thompson and her aunt, Snookie Johnson, also survive her.
