The time spent on Donna’s High Point Ranch in Lexington was extremely precious to him. Whether it was feeding the livestock with his son-in laws, or just walking through the woods, Jr. was always eager to share a hunting story or recall is younger days as an outdoorsman. It was also during his time in Texas that Jr. developed a close bond with Merlin, Donna’s Australian Shepherd. Merlin was ever vigilant to the end of his life. Always the outdoorsman, it is only appropriate that he would pass away when the dogwood trees are blooming and the turkeys are gobbling. At the end of his life and as his health was failing, he loved to recall duck hunting in Louisiana with his Labrador Buster and good friend Dr. Jerry Rankin. Jr.’s legacy of love, kindness, integrity, hard work, sense of humor, stewardship to the land and respect for all creatures great and small, will live on after his death. Although it is with great sorrow, his children, grandchildren and friends move forward with the same zest for life, love of the outdoors and respect for all living things. Jr. often spoke of traveling to far away places to hunt exotic animals such as elk, moose or bear. He never went.
