Vivian Carleston

July 8, 1914 - April 12, 2006

Vivian Carleston was born in Navasota, TX July 8, 1914 and died April 12, 2006 in Giddings, TX. She married Herbert Carleston in Navasota August 25, 1932. She is reunited with him, who died March 16, 1957 and with her parents, George and Olivia Allen, with her brothers and sisters in-law Martin and Nellodyne Allen, Algie and Arminda Allen, Wilson and Berta Allen and her sisters and brothers in-law Georgia and Ewing Prescott, Hattie Lois and Wesley McGee, Lorine and Theodore Melton, Juanita and Hannibal Wilson. She is also reunited with brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Parthenia and Eugene McGuire, Milton and Bessie Carleston, Margarete and Harold Fairchild, and Russell Carleston.

She is survived by her sons and their wives Herbert and Joyce Carleston of Giddings and John Allen and Helen Carleston of Louise, Grandchildren and their spouses Debra and Ivan Townsend (their children Tanya and Tana) of Louise, Tx, Kimberly and Seth Glattstein (their children Megan and Max) of Duxbury, Ma, Cynthia and Stanley Blaha (their children Clinton and Caydi) of El Campo, Tx, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Vivian was an active member of First Baptist Church in Giddings for many years after moving to Giddings in 1937 and after retirement. She and her friend Mrs. Hesterly organized the Women’s Missionary Union in 1937 and served as its President for several years. She served the church in many capacities. She was a Sunday school and Training Union teacher and The Girl’s Auxiliary leader. She left Giddings to find employment after the death of her husband in 1957. She was a House Mother at Mary Harden Baylor University, caregiver to several families and their children in Austin and Houston, TX. She was a companion to Mrs. Jessie Crowell in Louise, Tx and to Mrs. Carothers in Houston, TX. She returned to Giddings in 1978. At this time she started a Sunday morning Bible Study at Giddings Healthcare Center where it is still being offered to their residents. She served as President of Giddings Senior Citizens Organization for several years until she had to give it up for health reasons.

She was devoted to visiting the elderly and ill and will be remembered for her famous “custard” and “bread pudding” that she loved to make for her family and numerous friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to State and Foreign Missions through the First Baptist Church, Giddings, Tx.

Her life was celebrated at the First Baptist Church, Giddings, Tx. Interment was at the Navasota City Cemetery April 15, 2006.

Jessie Grace Cannady Jones

September 24, 1925 – May 6, 2006

Mrs. Jessie Jones, 80, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2006 at her home in Rockdale. Funeral services are Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Pastor Larry D. Holden of First Baptist Church in Coolidge officiating. Burial will be in the Gause Cemetery. Pallbearers are Kevin Trow, James Trow, Paul Jones, James Jones, Jesse Jones and Eric Jones.

Jessie was born on September 24, 1925 in Milano to James Ernest and Florence Ettola (Redden) Cannady. She and Edward Smith Jones were married on December 5, 1942 in Caldwell. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Edward, 2 infant sons, 3 brothers, Lonnie, Johnny and Joel Glen Cannady and 2 sisters, Estelle and Jewel preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sons, Edward S. Jones and wife Betty of Trinity, George Jones and wife Linda of Rockdale, Richard Jones and wife Kay of Trinity and Carl Jones and wife Mary of Rockdale; daughters, Anita Trow and husband Mike, Vickie Ramey and husband Tommy, Cheryl Rushing and husband Bobby all of Trinity, Nancy Pick of Tennessee Colony and Sandra Sledge and husband Rusty of Rockdale. 19 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren also survive her.

Milton Marvin Moerbe

March 2,1922 - April 30, 2006

Milton M. Moerbe was born in Serbin on March 2, 1922. His parents were Herman A. and Minnie Matthijetz Moerbe. He passed away on April 30, 2006 in LaGrange. Funeral services were held on May 3 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin followed by burial in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Rev. Michael Buchorn officiated. Pallbearers were Kim Moerbe, Malcom Dodd, Doug Alexander, Douglas Hartfield, Tim Hartfield and Stewart Schuster.

Milton and Bernice Schuster were married on September 29, 1946. He was the owner and operator of the Serbin Store. He was a veteran of the US Army serving from 1944 to 1946. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice in 1998, his parents and his sister, Wilma Moerbe.

He is survived by is brother-in-law, Leroy and Evelyn Schuster of Houston, two sisters-in-law, Ruby and Lorena Schuster, both of Nechanitz; special caregivers, Elizabeth Mitchell of LaGrange and Rev. Paul and Cydell Hartfield of Serbin.

Donnie Ray Praesel

September 8, 1952 – May 4, 2006

Donnie Ray Praesel, 53, of Rockdale, died at the Renaissance Villa in Rockdale on May 4, 2006. Rev. Doug Springer of Rockdale Full Gospel Church conducted funeral services on May 6, 2006 at the Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Pallbearers were Terry Arledge, Tim Arledge, Jeffrey Clark, Mark Skrhak, Chad Pyeatt, Lanny Worley, Jonathan Harris and Johnny Hernandez.on September 8, 1952 in Cameron to Floyd Monroe and Ruby Estelle Arledge Praesel. He was a 1971 graduate of Rockdale High School and attended Murray Street Church of Christ and later, the Rockdale Full Gospel Church. He was a farmer. His father, brother, Jesse Floyd Praesel and grandson Mason Doyle McCoy preceded him in death.

He is survived by his son, Justin Praesel and fiancée Wendy Rogers of Rockdale, daughter, Misty McCoy and husband, Ron of Rockdale and grandsons, Branson Dane and Carson Don McCoy, and his mother, Estella Praesel also of Rockdale.

Tammie Searcy

February 23, 1962 – May 4, 2006

Tammie Searcy, 44, was born on February 23, 1962 in Milam County to Archie Searcy and Evelyn L. Cotton Smith. Both preceded her in death. She was raised and lived most of her life in Milano. She was a homemaker, beautician and a caretaker for Girling Healthcare. She passed away on May 4, 2006 at Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. A graveside service was held on May 6 at the Liberty Cemetery near Milano, Texas. Pallbearers were Roy Criner, Robert Criner, Richard Criner, B.J. Criner, Devin Perry and Roger Cole. Honorary pallbearers were Donald Criner, Marvin Criner, Billy Criner, Joe Criner, Adam Perry and Randy Jackson.

She is survived by her fiancé Tim Kasner of Rockdale; daughters, Styler Leanne and Savannah Hope Mantooth of Milano; brothers, Donald Criner of New Caney, Marvin Criner and wife Patricia of Splendora, Billy Criner of New Caney and Joe Criner of Lyons; sister, Pamela Perry and husband Sam of Caldwell.

Tammie was a graduate of Milano High School and of Charles & Sue’s Cosmetology in Bryan. She loved her children and enjoyed dancing, yardwork and cooking.

Charlie Synatzske

December 13, 1913 – May 6, 2006

Charlie Synatzske, 92, a longtime resident of Thorndale, passed away at the Scott and White Hospital in Temple on May 6, 2006. Graveside services were held on May 9, 2006 at the Thorndale City Cemetery.

Charlie was born on December 13,1913 in New Bern Community to John and Emma Quebe Synatzske. He was married to Annie M. Lamb on November 26, 1938. He was a farmer and carpenter. His wife, Annie and son-in-law Lawrence Seelig preceded him in death. He is survived by his step daughter, Ethel Seelig of Thorndale, step-granddaughters, Brenda Brooks and husband Keith of Iraan and Beverly Hiatt of Round Rock; brother, Franklin “Butch” Synatzske of Ft. Worth; sisters, Emma Hazekbar of Taylor and Martha Ficus of Temple; 2 step-great grandsons: Garrett Brooks and James Hiatt, II.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran church in Thrall. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church at P.O. Box 265, Thrall, Texas 76578.

Stella Stanley

October 14, 1910 – May 6, 2006

Stella Stanley, a longtime resident of Lexington, passed away on May 6, 2006 at the Golden Age Nursing Home in Lockhart. She was 95 years of age. Graveside services were held on May 9, 2006 at the Hugh Wilson Cemetery in Tanglewood with Rev. Tim Ramsey of Tanglewood Baptist Church officiating.

She was born on October 14, 1910 to Joel Marion and Ada Odelia Plant Gould. She and James Robert Stanley were married on December 23, 1933 in Lee County. Her husband, parents and sons, Larry R. Stanley and infant son James Robert Stanley preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, John D. Stanley and wife Evelyn of Brazoria, daughter-in-law, Anne Stanley of Lockhart; grandchildren, Larry R. Stanley and wife Kathy of Lockhart, Robert C. Stanley and wife Wendi of Rosanky, James A. Stanley and wife Sarah of New Braunfels, John D. Stanley, Jr. and wife Tiffany of Brazoria, Tina Yonts and husband Randy of Lexington and Barbara Stanley and husband Scott of West Columbia. She is also survived by 19 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

Harry C. Unger

July 12, 1934 – May 3, 2006


Harry C. Unger, formerly of Giddings, passed away on May 3, 2006 at St. Mark’s Medical Center in LaGrange. Rev. John Davis conducted funeral services at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings on May 5, 2006. Burial was in the Giddings City Mausoleum.

He was born on July 12, 1934 in Giddings. His parents were Clemens and Lena (Neumann) Unger. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1956 – 1959. He was a Plumber with Unger Plumbing. He and Bertha Bingham were married on July 12, 1991. His parents, wife and brother, Milton preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughters, Leana Davis of LaGrange and Melissa Bollinger of Houston; grandchildren, Brandon Davis of LaGrange and Billy, James and Johnathan Black of Houston; brother, Richard and Alice Unger of Giddings; 2 sisters, Ida Meyers of Pasadena and Lydia Siegmund of Giddings.
