April 14, 1923 – March 13, 2008 Corine O. Chapman died at the age of 84 on March 13, 2008 at Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. She was born in the Salem Community near Cameron on April 14, 1923. Her parents were Robert Stevens and Ruth Cornine (Brasheaer) Stevens. She married Orval Fred Chapman on April 6, 1944 in League City, Texas and was a homemaker. She lived in Rockdale for 56 years and was a member of the First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orval Fred Chapman on January 30, 1987; and sisters, Thelma Villasana and Doris Weise. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Cavazos and husband Joe of Rockdale; four grandchildren, Johnny Joe and Robert Fred Cavazos of Rockdale, Joe M. Cavazos, III of San Antonio, Bernice Jimenez of San Antonio; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Isabella Jimenez. She is also survived by her half-brother, Howard Stevens of Dallas and half-sister, Claudell Raymond of Houston. Funeral services were held March 17, 2008 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale, burial in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Rev. Joel Silva from the Mexican Presbyterian Church in Taylor presided. Pall bearers were: Johnny J. Cavazos, Robert F. Cavazos, John M. Cavazos, James Cavazos, Tim Castaneda, and Rudy Castaneda, Jr. September 15, 1921 – March 11, 2008 Otto Clemons, Sr. died at the age of 86 at the Heart Hospital of Austin on March 11, 2008. He was born on September 15, 1921 in Lee County to Billy Clemons and Amelia (Fisher) Clemons. He married Ruby Lee (Sams) Clemons on April 15, 1941 in Lee County. He was a retired Assemblyman, worked at Keller Ladder and Chair Factory for 25 years, and also worked in farming and ranching. He was a member of the South Oak Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven sisters, three brothers, his wife and one daughter. He is survived by his children, Alemeta Henry of Dallas, Otto Clemons, Jr. and Jo Ann of Mesquite, Mary Danso of Dallas, Albert Clemons and Shirley of Garland, Billy Clemons and Marilyn of Plano, John Clemons of Dallas, Edward Clemons and Rita of Glen Heights, Ronnie Clemons of Dallas, Janice Cox and William of Dime Box, and Ragionald Clemons and Marvella of Dallas. He is also survived by his sister, Zora Hall of Houston; 24 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Services were held at the Bateman Center on March 18, 2008 with Brother Asberry Mitchel presiding. Burial was at Sandy Point Cemetery. December 12, 1917 – March 14, 2008 Winnie “Goldie” Lee Hancock died at the age of 90 years old on March 14, 2008 at Memorial Herman Southwest Hospital in Houston. She was born to Josh Lee and Mary Ann (Alford) Lee on December 12, 1917 in Bastrop. She married Lee Hancock and worked as an employee of the Railroad. She was a member of St. Mary’s Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, M.J. Lee, William Arthur Lee, Jasper P. Lee, Henry Clay Lee; sisters, Arzelia White, Ula B. Hopkins, Ruth Branch. She is survived by her daughters, Goldie Washington of Ft. Worth; two grandchildren, Andrea Copeland of Ft. Worth, Reginald Sanders, Jr. of Ft. Worth; great-grandchild, Darren Copeland of Ft. Worth; son-in-law, Reginald Sanders, Sr. of Ft. Worth; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be held on March 20, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Baptist Church in Ledbetter. Rev. Fred Jones will preside. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Baptist Cemetery. Pall bearers are: Craig Jones, Donnie Jones, Reginald Sanders, Sr., Reginald Sanders, Jr., Michael Pittman, and Josh Lee. Honorary pall bearers are: Gregory Branch, Reginald Branch, Willie Jones, Edgar Lee and Jason Branch. Memorials may be sent to St. Mary’s Baptist Cemetery Fund or a charity of choice. August 11, 1938 – March 12, 2008 Carolyn Harris died on March 12, 2008 in the South Austin Hospital at the age of 69. She was born to Gertrude (Wortham) and David H. Hart, Jr. on August 11, 1938. She married Gordon Harris on February 24, 1956 in Rockdale. She was a homemaker and a travel agent. She was a member of the Lutheran Church, lived in Austin for the past six years and lived in Waco prior to that. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Gordon Harris of Laramie, Wyoming; sons, Christopher Harris and wife Teresa of Hawaii, Gregory Harris of Austin; daughters, Deborah Peterson and husband Michael of Austin, Melissa Reynolds and husband Mark of Georgia. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Phillip Peterson, Sarah Peterson, Emily Reynolds, Clair Reynolds, Shannon Whiteley, Ashley Harris; one great-granddaughter, Mary Madison Whiteley; sister, Patricia Rogge and husband William of Belton; aunt, Doris Johnson of Rockdale. Services will be held at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale, cremation will follow. Memorilas may be sent to the American Diabetes Association. February 18, 1955 – March 9, 2008 Donald K. Eddie died on March 9, 2008 at his home in Giddings at the age of 53. He was born in Kim, Nebraska to Donald Lee Eddie and Jane (Bangs) Eddie on February 18, 1955. He was a carpenter. He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Tim Eddie and nephew, Adam Eddie. He is survived by his mother, Jane Eddie of Kansas; Daughter, Desiree Eddie of Arizona; son, Donald Lee Eddie II and Christina of Arizona; four grandchildren, Jordan Reynolds of Arizona, Alyssa Renolds of Arizona, Austin Eddie of Arizona, Eliessa Eddie of Arizona; brothers, Rod Eddie and Paula of New York, Scott Eddie and Ronda of Arizona; sisters, Floydean Bender and Blain of Kansas, Gejuan Martin and Dennis of Kansas; special friends, Paula Jo Alexander of Kansas, Chad Alexander of Kansas, Carie Alexander of Kansas, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A Memorial Service was held at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home on March 14, 2008. Rev. Ruell Cooper presided. February 25, 1937 – March 15, 2008 Ben Earl Lagrone died in his home in Milano on March 15, 2008. He was 71 years old. A life-long resident of Milano, he was born on February 25, 1937 to Amos D. Lagrone and Dollie (Mabe) Lagrone. He married Mary Evelyn Ryan on November 30, 1957 in Caldwell. He was a self-employed farmer and rancher and retired from H.B. Reed where he was a superintendent. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Tommy Lagrone, Junior Lagrone, O.P. Lagrone and Eugene Lagrone; and sister, Juanita Davenport. He is survived by his wife, Mary Evelyn Lagrone of Milano; daughters, Lou Ann Cearley of Milano and husaband John, Sharon Lewis of Milano and husband Emmett; four grandchildren, Jamie Lewis, Amanda Cearley, Dylan Lewis and Sierra Lewis. He is also survived by sisters, Kathleen Davenport of Lufkin and Shirley Bullock of Milano. Memorial Services were held on March 17, 2008 at the Milano Civic Center.
