September 6, 1915 – June 2, 2006 Edith Louise (Tate) Archer died on June 1, 2006. Louise, as she was known, was born to George W. and Edith Riley Tate on September 6, 1915, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her father died in Leadville, Colorado in March of 1920, and she came to Giddings at that time to live with her uncle and aunt, J. Will and Daisy Tate. Louise graduated from Giddings High School in 1932 and Sam Houston State College in 1936. While attending college in Huntsville, she met Milton Archer. They married in 1938 when Louise was teaching school in Silsbee, Texas. Milton worked for a number of years for Geophysical Service, Inc. His work took him and Louise to most of the states in Western and Northwestern United States and Canada. In 1951, they moved back to Giddings to care for Louise’s Uncle Will and Aunt Daisy. Milton and Louise stayed to make Giddings their home, being involved in ranching and business. They, along with Bill Pieratt, owned and operated the Giddings Drug Store. Later Milton was employed by the Texas Agriculture Department. Louise’s husband Milton died in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her Uncle and Aunt who raised her. Louise is survived by cousins on the Tate side and brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews on the Archer side and also dear friends. At Louise’s request there was a simple graveside service on Monday, June 5, at 3 p.m. attended by those near and dear to her. The Reverend Chris Harrison of the First Presbyterian Church of Giddings presided. Louise wished that memorials be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Giddings or the Lee County Historical Society. February 20, 1919 - May 29, 2006 Rev. Leif Hasskarl conducted funeral services on June 1, 2006 at St. James Lutheran Church in Lexington for Mrs. Amanda Drosche, 87, who passed away on May 29, 2006 in the Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale. Burial was in the St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Lexington. Pallbearers were Brandon Drosche, David Drosche, Mike Dube, Randy Dube, Daron Drosche and Larry Market. Mrs. Drosche was born in Fedor on February 20, 1919 to Ernest and Selma (Lehmann) Jatzlau. She and Oscar Drosche were married in Fedor on November 20, 1938. She was a homemaker and nurses aid in Rockdale and Giddings nursing homes. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Lexington. Her husband, Oscar, her parents, a grandson, Douglas Drosche and several brothers and sisters preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, Marvin Drosche, Darvin Drosche and wife, Marlene and Edward Drosche and wife Shirley all of Lexington; her daughter, Alene Dube and husband Raymond of Carrolton; brother Elton Jatzlau of Giddings and her sister, Ester Brade of Lincoln. Sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren also survive her. June 4, 1937 – June 4, 2006 Robert Sowders, 69, of Milano died on June 4, 2006 at the Central Texas Hospital in Cameron. He had been a resident of Milano since 1969. A graveside service was held on June 6 at the San Saba City Cemetery in San Saba, Texas. Pastor Wayne Kirk of Marlow Baptist Church officiated. R obert was born in San Saba on June 4, 1937 to Edward and Frances Louise (Taylor) Sowders. He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew, Ricky Lynn Sowders, great nephew, Edward Wayne Sowders and sister-in-law, Shirley Sowders. He is survived by his brothers, Gerald Sowders of Milano and Don Sowders and wife, Jeannette of Bowman, GA. October 1, 1970 – June 4, 2006 Jennifer Gest, 35, of Rockdale passed away Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale on June 4, 2006. Funeral services are Wednesday, June 7, at 2:00 pm at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Cremation will follow after the services. Rev. Jan Campbell of Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale will officiate. Jennifer was born in Long Island, New York to James and Carolee Lillian (Milligan) Kall on October 1, 1970. She and Bradley Eugene Gest were married in Cozumel, Mexico on October 2, 1993. They owned Mr. Gatti’s and Texas Burger in Rockdale. Her mother Carolee Kall preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Bradley of Rockdale, daughter, Kaimee Leigh Gest of Rockdale, father, James Kall of Quintana, Texas, brothers, James Kall, II of Sugarland and Christopher Kall of Quintana; mother and father-in-law, Billy and Marie Gest of Rockdale. She was a graduate of Alief Elsik High school in Houston and Wharton Junior College. January 10, 1930 – May 31, 2006 Joseph Hayman, 76, of Milano died in the Seton Hospital in Austin on May 31, 2006. Funeral services were on June 3, 2006 at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was in the Milano Cemetery. Rev. Roy Dillard of the Milano United Methodist Church officiated. Pallbearers were Steve Simmons, Stephen Walker, James Walker, Buddy Thurman, Daniel Morgan, David Westbrook, David Davidson and John Brooks. Joseph was born on January 10, 1930 in Houston, His parents were Joseph Lawrence and Edna J. (Morgan) Hayman. He and Lanelle Haddox were married on July 8, 1956 in the Milano United Methodist Church. He was a retired manager of Milano Water Supply. He had been owner and operator of Hayman Service Station and Café in Milano and was a professional beekeeper. His father, Lawrence Hayman and son, Joe Hayman preceded him in death. He is survived y his wife, Lanelle of Milano, mother, Edna Hayman of Milano and sister, Evelyn Simmons also of Milano. Joseph was a member of Milano United MethodistChurch, a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and served for many years as a member of the Milano School board. He was a member of the Milano Masonic Lodge #605. He enjoyed working with cattle on the old home place that has been in his family for over 100 years. He enjoyed working in his garden. January 7, 1918 – June 2, 2006 G.G. Nittsche, 88, of Lincoln passed away on June 2, 2006. Funeral services were held on June 4 at St. James Lutheran Church in Lexington with burial in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Dime Box. Shuder was born to Ernest and Anna Mattiza Nittsche on January 7, 1918 in Fedor. He was married to Ethel Grundmann and worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad in the Maintenance of Right of Way Department. He was a veteran of the US Army during WWII. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Nittsche of Lincoln; son, Stephen and Karen Nittsche of Brenham; grandson, Hilton Nittsche of Giddings; step grand children: Tina and Richard Grawunder of Brenham, Jennifer and Gary Stansbury of College Station, Curtiss Schoen of Brenham; great grandson, Christian Grawunder of Brenham; 4 brothers, Martin and Charlotte Nittsche of Houston, Walter Nittsche of Bryan, Herbert and Junelle Nittsche and Alfred Nittsche of Houston; 2 sisters, Clara Wiexel of Houston and Ruby Lovejoy of New Mexico; sister-in-law, Irene Nittsche of Lincoln. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Florence Wilhite and Isabella Pros; 2 brothers, Erich and Otto Nittsche. June 12, 1947 – May 31, 2006 Sara Partida of Giddings, was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico on June 12, 1947 to Merced Tovar and Petra Jimenez. She died on May 31, 2006. Father Miguel Duarte Duran officiated at funeral services at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Giddings. Burial was in the Giddings City Cemetery. Sara and Marcelino Partida were married in Norega, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on November 18, 1962. She worked as a wait staff assistant at Texas Grill. Her parents, 2 brothers, Elodio and Raul Tovar and an infant son, Casimiro Partida preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Marcelino of Giddings; 5 children: Alfredo Partida of Pearland, Jaime Partida of Austin, Idalia and Randy Bishop of Giddings, Carlos Partida of Austin and Camelia and Antonio Morales of Giddings; 2 grandchildren: Toby and Zach Bishop of Giddings; 2 brothers, Guadalupe and Julia Tovar of Giddings and Luciano and Amanda Tovar of San Luis Potosi; 3 sisters: Margarita Tovar of Monterrey, Mexico, Estela and Antonio Vasques of Monterrey, Mexico and Alicia and Emilio Coronado of Giddings. November 7, 1914 – June 1, 2006 Ophia Sorenson, 91, of Taylor, formerly of Rockdale, passed away on June 1, 2006 in the John’s Community Hospital in Taylor. Funeral services were at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale on June 4 with Rev. Larry Griffith of First Baptist in Thorndale officiating. Burial was in Mesquite Cemetery near Lexington. She was born on November 7, 1914 in Milam County, to Ada Genora (Scales) and Edward Hamilton McWilliams. On August 2, 1934, she and Harvis R. Sorenson were married in John Yount’s home in Watson Branch Community. She was a schoolteacher at Liberty school and predominately a homemaker. Her husband, Harvis, parents, brother Eudale McWilliams and great granddaughter, Rachael Survant preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Gene C. Box 217, Thorndale, Texas 76577. November 30, 1942 – May 30, 2006 Donald Ray Wilcox, 63, a lifelong resident of Rockdale, died on May 30, 2006 at the Central Texas Hospital in Cameron. A graveside service was held on June 3, 2006 in the Salter Chapel cemetery in Minerva. Rev. Willie Phillips and Emem Umem officiated. Donald was born on November 30, 1942 in Minerva to Robert and Marzella Owens Wilcox. He worked as a general laborer for a steel company. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Louis Vernon Miller and sisters, Elenor Ruth Barnes and Vernell Pankey. He is survived by a brother, Robert Junior Wilcox of Cameron and a sister, Billie Jean Faggett of Longview and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. |
