September 1, 1920 – June 17, 2006 Burial services for Kathleen M. “Kitty” Cosper of Giddings were held Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at 10:00am at Giddings City Cemetery. She was best known to all of her friends and family as “Kitty”. Miss Kitty was born September 1, 1920 to the late Pat and Dora Kluge of Caldwell, Texas. She graduated from Caldwell High School and often talked about her days as a Caldwell Hornet cheerleader. Miss Kitty lived in Giddings for many years and worked mostly in the local nursing homes as activity director and medical records clerk. She married her husband of 33 years, Glen Cosper, September 1, 1972. She loved watching Astros baseball, organizing get-togethers, visiting with family, and taking trips to Louisiana. Miss Kitty was preceded in death by her mother and father; her brothers, Woodrow Kluge and Harold Don Kluge and one nephew Woodrow Kluge, Jr. Surviving relatives include her husband, Glen; two sons, Don Simmang and wife Mary Ann, Steve Simmang, Sr. and wife Janet; four grandchildren, Keith Simmang and wife Kristi, Ronda Pfeiffer, Stephanie Fojtik and husband Quentin, and Steve Simmang, Jr.; seven great-grandchildren, one nephew, Herman Kluge; and two nieces Marian Jannett and Nancy Gimza. Mrs. Cosper passed peacefully in her home in Giddings on June 16, 2006. June 9, 1942 - June 12, 2006 Raul Fernandez, Sr. passed away at his home in Lexington on Monday, June 12, 2006. He was 64. A graveside service was held on June 15 in the Lexington City Cemetery. He was born to Jesus and Maria Villareal Fernandez on June 9, 1942 in Palmira Coah. Mexico. He married Dora Maldonado in April 1992. He worked as a ranch hand in the agriculture industry. His father, Jesus, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Dora of Lexington, 4 sons, Raul and Rachel Fernandez, Homero and Aracelia Fernandez, Rolando and Christie Fernandez and Conrad Fernandez, all of Lexington; 3 daughters, Brenda and Salomon Caballero of LaGrange, Lorena and Cirilo Alanzo of Kilgore and Dora and Pablo Zuniga of La Grange; 10 grandsons, 13 granddaughters and 1 great-grandson. He is also survived by 3 brothers, Jesus and Manuela Fernandez of Eagle Pass, Jose Luis and Eloisa Fernandez of Melinger and Gilberto and Lilvie Fernandez of Paint Rock; 2 sisters, Rosa and Homera Galindo, Bertha and Israel Tamantes of Del Rio and his mother, Maria, also of Del Rio. August 9, 1919 – June 15, 2006 Eloise Finn was born August 9, 1919 in Edna, Texas to Charlie and Annie (Waltzel) Boeker. She married Graham Finn on February 4, 1937 in Houston. They lived in Aldine for several years where she was a secretary with the Aldine ISD for 19 years, retiring in 1982. For the past 22 years she lived in Rockdale. Eloise passed away at her home on Thursday, June 15, 2006. Funeral services were at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale on June 17, 2006, followed by burial in the Hugh Wilson Cemetery in Tanglewood. Rev. Trish Holland conducted the services. Pallbearers were Freddie Pounders, Jason Pounders, Jim Pounders, Terry Bearden, Don Stockton and Willem Stockton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Graham, parents, daughter, Cherie Jayne, brother Leon Boeker, sister, Lillian Schubert and grandchildren, Larry Jayne and twins, Mica Wayne and Colby Lee Pounders. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Morris and Rodney Clanton of Conroe and Nicki Pounders and husband, Freddy of Rockdale; grandchildren, Jo Lynn Bearden and Terry of Flower Mound, Nicki Siebt and Ian of Chelsea, Alabama, and Jason Pounders of Rockdale; great grandchildren: Maranda and Rainey Pounders, Landon Pounders, Taylor, Jordan, Payton and Landon Siebt and Courtney and Haylie Bearden. Eloise was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Rockdale, Presbyterian Women, Tuesday Morning Bible Study and a member of Retired Teachers Association. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and TheFood Pantry in Rockdale and in the school nurse’s office. She enjoyed yard work, her flowers and animals, loved to polka and do the chicken dance. In 2002 she was named Milam County Home Extension Service and Hometown Hero. February 21, 1918 - June 13, 2006 Funeral services were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on June 15, 2006 for Albert Medack, 88, who died at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange on June 13. Rev. Robert Tiner conducted the service followed by burial in the Giddings City Cemetery. Albert was born on February 21, 1918 in Lincoln to Ben and Lena Gruetzner Medack. He and Louise Namken were married on September 10, 1937 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings. He was a lifetime Lee County farmer and rancher and a longtime elder at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He had been employed with the Giddings State School as a groundskeeper for 7 years and had been employed with Bluebonnet Electric as a groundskeeper for 10 years. His parents, a brother, Clarence and son-in-law Henry Umscheid preceded him in death. Two brothers-in-law also preceded him in death: John Eschberger and Ed Losure. He is survived by his wife, Louise of Giddings, son, Roy and Ruth Medack also of Giddings, granddaughters, Krista Umscheid and Sheila and Bruce Fox of Austin, Susie and Pete Stewart of Midwest City,OK; step-granddaughters, Corrie Umscheid of Austin, Pam and Jeff Hobbs of Giddings; great-grandchildren, Shaunn Fox of Austin and Jack and Hannah Stewart of Midwest City; step-great-grandchildren, Matt Walsch of Midland, Whitney Walsch of Austin; 2 sisters, Clara Losure of South Carolina and Irene Larcher of Houston; and sister-in-law, Frances Medack of Giddings. May 18, 1918 – June 14, 2006 Bemus Conway Turner of the Blue community west of Lexington, Texas, died at home on June 14, 2006. He was born May 18, 1918 to Frank and Lillie Stanford Turner across the street from the home in which he died, which he had built for himself in 1942. He was preceded in death by his wife, Zoe Nellie Sanders Turner in 1987. In 1990 he married Nancy George who survives him. He was a veteran of World War II and was a farmer and rancher. He was a life-long member of Blue United Methodist Church and an outstanding man of God. He served as the chairman of the Administrative Council, as Sunday School Superintendent for 32 years as a trustee for 42 years. He was very influential in getting Blue School deeded to the then called Blue Methodist Episcopal Church from the Lexington ISD to become the first church building. He was also very influential in building the new Fellowship Hall. He also faithfully served his community. He was elected to the Appraisal Board of the School district and was elected as a community member also. He served as the Lee County Precinct 3 Election Judge and chairman of the Democratic Party primary election; as Chaplain from 1983 until his death in 2006 for the Blue Volunteer Fire Department, which he was instrumental in instituting; and as Chaplain for the American Legion Frank Smelcher Post #6 in Lexington for 38 years. He was a charter member and officer of the Giddings Historical Museum. He loved the Blue community, his church, and his family and will be sorely missed. In addition to his wife, Nancy, he is survived by his daughter Zoe Nita Turner Christiansen and her husband Milton of Blue Community and their children Suzanne Christiansen Mewis and her husband of Austin and Luke Christiansen of Travis AFB, California. He is survived by his son Garry Bemus Turner and his wife Angela of the Blue community and their children Kristina Turner, Katie Turner, Kayla Turner, Brooke Medders, Cheryl Medders and Thomas Stegall. He is survived by his brother John “J.D.” Turner of Lexington and his sister Edith Odessa Allen of Lufkin: his mother-in-law Olga George of Taylor and his brothers and sisters-in-law Tilman and Lucille Sanders of Austin, Opal Sanders of Houston, Kenneth and Bonnie George of Taylor and Ronnie Becker of Pflugerville and by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. The service was held at Blue United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 17 with interment at the Burns Cemetery under the direction of Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home of Giddings. Rev. Linda O’Neal officiated. Memorials may be made to Blue United Methodist Church, 3344 CR 309, Lexington TX, 78947. Pallbearers were Larry Alford, Johnnie Turner, Justin Turner, Alan Turner, David Turner, and Luke Christiansen. Honorary pallbearers were Guy Hutson, Harold Hutson, Elmo Wilhite and Chester “Shorty” Phillips. |
