Sept. 30, 1918 July 24, 2006 Minnie Cardwell Beck, 87, passed away on July 24, 2006 at her home in Rockdale. Funeral Services were July 28 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was in Salty Cemetery near Rockdale. She was born to Charlie Lee and Eula Lee (Caffey) Tucker on September 30, 1918 in Thorndale. She was married to Curtis Cardwell on June 5, 1934. He passed away in 1982. She and Tom Beck were married on January 23, 1987 in Taylor. Tom preceded her in death in 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister, Lula Cardwell, 2 brothers Buster and Buddie Tucker, Grandson, Don Morr, Great Grandson Cory Menges and great great granddaughter, Camry Abeggien. She is survived by her daughters, Martha Morr and husband Craig of Rockdale and Dot Menges and husband Johnny of Tanglewood; step-son, Dave Beck of Moffat, brother, Paul Tucker of Thorndale, sister, Emma Sis Strong of Rockdale, care giver, Carolyn Dickey. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers were Matt Abeggien, Albert Weller, Charlie Roepke, Michael Roepke and James McCoy. March 14, 1921 July 23, 2006 Erleane Cahoon, 85, died on July 23, 2006 at her home in Rockdale. Funeral services were July 27 at Southwind Baptist Church in Tomball. Burial was at Earthman-Resthaven Cemetery in Houston. Dr. Harold Clayton officiated. Erleane was born in Houston on March 14, 1921 to Wournel Lee and Helen (Frazier) Courtney. She lived in Houston for many years, then in Dobbin, TX for 19 years and the past 3 years in Rockdale. She married Leslie Cahoon at Shady Acres Church in Houston on November 4, 1939. They were welders for 37 years, making the T-shaped clothes line poles. They were sold all over the country. Her husband, Leslie, son, David Cahoon, brother, Jack Courtney, grandson, Casey Box and her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Box and husband Gary of Rockdale, daughter-in-law, Reese Cahoon of Dobbin, grandchildren, Kris Box, Randi Carol Box and Kevin Cahoon and her sister, Melba Durden of Spring. She was a charter member of Southwind Baptist Church and a graduate of Reagan High School in Houston. October 14, 1910 July 24, 2006 Mr. Fritz George, 95 was born in Floresville, Texas to Frank Carl and Elise Lehmann George on October 14, 1910. He attended school in Ledbetter. He and Nelda Jahnz were married for 48 years when she preceded him in death in 1995. Fritz lived in Ledbetter his entire married life. He was a farmer and rancher raising corn, cotton, peanuts and hay. He loved the farm and took interest in his cattle and renovating grazing pastures and hay fields. He is survived by his daughter, Rita and R.G. Gillum of Goldfield, NV, son, Ray George of Ledbetter, 7 grandchildren, Roxanne, Deborah, Daniel, Melissa, Michelle, David and Matt, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandson; sister-in-law, Lenora Jahnz of Carmine. The family has requested that memorials be made to the Capital Improvement Fund at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings. July 31, 1932 July 25, 2006 Marjorie Jacob, 73, of Lexington passed away on July 25, 2006 at Country CarePlex in Giddings. Mr. Bob Bell conducted the funeral service at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings on July 29, 2006. Burial was in the Lexington Cemetery. She was born in Big Spring, TX on July 31, 1932 to Jack and Vivian Davidson Gallaway. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, David Albert Jacob, former husband, Bruce Jacob and sister, Mildred Watson. Marjorie is survived by her children, Phillip Wayne Jacob of Lexington and Kathy Lynn Penner also of Lexington; grandchildren, Jackie Lynn Gatlin and Jamie Ellen Barker of Lexington; a great grandson arriving shortly, Jordon Maliek, brothers and sisters, Lloyd, James and Donald Gallaway all of Woodville, Sandra Morgan and husband Rod and Maxine Harvey all of Woodville. Sept. 13, 1920 July 26, 2006 Lydia Jeske, 85, died on July 26, 2006 at Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings. Funeral services were July 30 at Christ Lutheran Church in Loebau with Rev. Alert Gallmeier officiating. Burial was in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Lydia was born in Brenham on September 13, 1920 to Louis and Alvine (Ott) Jeske. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Alvine Lehmann. She is survived by her sister, Augusta Schramm of Loebau, nieces, Edna Schram and Helen and Ron Spencer and great niece, Rose Spencer, great nephews Michael Schramm and Scott Spencer all of Loebau. Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church in Loebau. July 27, 2006 Ronald Lee Scott, 47, died at his home in Spring Branch, Texas on July 27, 2006. Funeral services were August 1, 2006 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Lytle. Interment graveside services will be August 2, at 1 pm at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale. He is survived by his wife, Candyse of Spring Branch, sons, Robert Scott of Lytle, Brian Scott of Devine and Jason Scott Ogden of San Antonio; parents, Dan and Wanda Scott of Natalia, TX; brother, Michael D. Scott of Devine; sisters, Lisa Martin and husband Tony of Natalia; and the mother of his two sons, Betty Scott of Devine. Memorial contributions are requested to the Fire Department of your choice. December 2, 1918 July 27, 2006 Funeral services were held on July 31, 2006 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale for Mozelle Morgan, 87, who died on July 27 at Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale. The services were conducted by Rev. Jan Campbell of Peace Lutheran in Rockdale and Pastor Dee Daniels of Beckville, Texas. Burial was at Rosedale Cemetery in Gladewater, TX on August 1, 2006. Mozelle was born on December 2, 1918 in Roanoke, Texas to Raymond and Melissa (King) Seltz. She married Edward L. Morgan on March 29, 1954. She was self-employed as a seamstress. Her husband Edward, parents and her daughter, Clydie Louise Powell preceded her in death. She is survived by her son R. Britt Powell and wife Jo of Rockdale and daughter, Ann M. Highnote and husband Lowell of Princeton, Texas; 3 grandchildren: Diana Kay Morgan of Dallas, Paula K. Bowden and husband Ric of Pflugerville and James E. Powell and wife Trish of Rockdale and 3 great grandchildren: Jeremy and Chase Bowden and Jeremy Cox. Also surviving are her sisters, Marcie Ellis and Raydell Goggans both of Gladewater. May 26, 1928 July 26, 2006 Velda Smith, 78, passed away on July 26, 2006 at Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. She had lived near Wesley, OK for the past 57 years. Funeral services were July 29 at Browns Funeral Chapel in Atoka, OK, followed by burial in the Smith Family Cemetery near Wesley, OK. She was born to Carl and Tina Bell (Brown) Richardson on May 26, 1928 in Asher, OK. She and Fred A. Smith were married in Atoka, OK on October 13, 1949. She retired after 25 years at Army Ammunition Depot at Savanna as a Demolition Inspector. Her parents and 2 brothers, Russell and Ralph Richardson and a brother-in-law, Tommy Matthews preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Fred of Wesley, OK, 2 daughters, Genice Mabray and husband Gary of Kiowa, OK, and Sue Taylor and husband Michael of Gause; 1 son, Donald Fred Smith and wife Vicky of Melrose, NM; 6 grandchildren: Michael & Lisa Mabray of Kiowa, OK, Michelle and Chad Vadnais of Forney, Mickey and Ila Mabray of McAlester, OK, Rendy Shaw of Hearne, Kristi and H.P. Cargile of Melrose, NM and Keith and Cincy Smith of McKinney, TX; and 14 great grandchildren. Velda was a 1946 graduate in Asher, Oklahoma and was of the Methodist faith. |
