August 22, 1919 – August 2, 2006 Clara Norine Deal, 86, of Giddings passed away on August 2, 2006 at Lake Point Medical Center in Rowlett, Texas. Rev. Dale Bohm conducted funeral services at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln on August 5. Burial was in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Clara was born to Louis and Melita Kloss Beisert in Loebeau on August 22, 1919. She and Rupert Deal, Sr. were married on November 25, 1937. He preceded her in death in 1987. She owned and operated a convenience store. She is survived by her son, Rubert Deal, Jr., and wife, Mary of Giddings; daughters, Norine Haston and husband Fred of Goodletsville, TN, Nellie Johnson and husband, Pete of Terrell, and Janet Kieschnick and husband Mike also of Terrell; brothers, Alvin, Milton, Robert, Rueben, Alfred and Ernie Biesert; sisters, Elnora Medack, Lorine Tatum, Esther Exner, Grace Rackel, Gladys Iselt, Elna Moerbe, Jeanette Benignus, and Helen Beisert. Eleven grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren also survive her. February 14, 1924 – July 30, 2006 Olivia Gonzales, 82, died on Sunday, July 30, 2006 at her residence, after a battle with cancer. A rosary was conducted by Deacon Gus Coehlo on August 2 and the funeral service was on August 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale with Rev. Chris Coleman officiating. Burial followed at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Mrs. Gonzales was born on February 14, 1924 in Brackettville, Texas to Seferino and Elosia Garcia. She married Guillermo Gonzales on February 1, 1940 in Uvalde. She and her husband were migrant farm workers in their early years and then became restaurant owners. Mrs. Gonzales was known for her delicious, authentic Mexican dishes. Her businesses included the Café on Main Street in Uvalde, The Flamingo restaurant that was later known as the Swiss Club Restaurant in Gilroy, California and the El Mambo restaurant in Watsonville, California. She also had a restaurant in Rockdale for a short time. She was a resident of Rockdale for the past 26 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Pete Alfare; two sisters, Mary G. Sandoval and Mercy Garcia; three brothers, Arnulfo Garcia, Robert Garcia and Ernesto Garcia; granddaughter, Peggy Ann Gonzales. Survivors include seven children, Eleanor Gonzales and husband Santos of Lexington, Guillermo Gonzales, Jr. and wife Jova of Watsonville, CA, Cristoval Jesse Gonzales and wife Blanca of Holister, CA, Rosa Linda Braun and husband James D. of Lorena, TX, Richard Gonzales and wife Christina of Watsonville, CA, Ruben Gonzales and wife Pam of Las Vegas, NV and Hector Gonzales of Rockdale; sisters, Oralia Esparza and Ofelia Garcia both of Gilroy; brother, Seferino Garcia, Jr. and wife Maria of Gilroy; 29 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Hector Gonzales, Pete Gonzales, Arnold Garcia, Donald Ray Tibbitts, Dominic Aldama, Richard Tibbitts, Santos Gonzales, Reno Yanes, Jr., Monique Gonzales, John Tibbitts, Steven Flores, Amanda Gonzales, Bill Gonzales, Jr. Christopher Yanes, Blas Marques, Eddie Diver, Adrian Tovar, Alejundro Orofre and Enrique Garza. Honorary Pallbearers were Rhodessa Allen, Kendea Darneils, Becky Niffen, Shasha Tibbitts, Yvette Tibbitts and Sheri Torres. July 4, 1914 - July 31, 2006 Clara Lucille Mathis passed from this life on July 31, 2006, at the age of 92. She was born on July 4, 1914, in Hungerford, Texas. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Clarence Mathis, February 18, 1959, her father, Charlie Jensen, mother, Carrie Bell Clemons Jensen, her sisters, Maude Dismukes, Madie Reed and brother Pete Jensen. Clara lived in Galveston County for the past 62 years and had worked for the Clear Creek School district for 19 years. She is survived by her four sons, Keith Mathis and wife Sara, of League City, Don Mathis and wife Joy of Rusk, Gerald Mathis and wife Maxine, of League City, and Terry Mathis and wife Cyndi of Baytown. She is also survived by her sister Myrtle Quinney, 101, of Giddings and brother Hub Jensen, 95 of League City. Also surviving are grandchildren, Kim Sommers, Bubba Mathis, Gina Lee, Rick Mathis, Gay Mathis, Scott Mathis, Carrie Carroll, Mickey Mathis, and Garrett Mathis, as well as 23 great grandchildren. Funeral services were in the Bay Area Funeral Home Chapel on August 3, 2006. Interment was in the Lexington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. July 23, 1949 – August 2, 2006 Diane Peschel, 57, of Caldwell, formerly of Giddings, passed away at her home on August 2, 2006. Funeral services were held at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings on August 4, 2006 with Rev. Rick Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Giddings City Cemetery. Diane was born to Tommy and Dora (Lyles) Hooper in Giddings on July 23, 1949. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Claude and Ray Hooper and her mother-in-law. She is survived by her husband, Robert of Caldwell, daughters, Cori and husband Ron Gostecnik of Bellville and Laci Ebner of Giddings; sister, Verna T. Becker of Giddings; brothers, Kenneth and wife Mari Hooper of Giddings and Thomas and wife Virginia Hooper of Katy; brother-in-law, Harold and wife Lelda Peschel of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Joyce and husband, Bob Schnieder of Marlin, Lynette and husband John Franka of New Ulm and Marilyn and husband Robert Newman of New Ulm and Father-in-law Raymond Paschel also of New Ulm. Diane was a loving wife and mother with a green thumb and a soft spot in her heart, especially for dogs and horses. |
