Jan. 28, 1903 – August 14, 2006 Mrs. Jewell Clark passed away on August 14, 2006 at the Manor Oaks Nursing Center in Rockdale. She was 103 years of age. Funeral services are Wednesday, August 16 at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial will be in the Forest Grove Cemetery with Rev. Calvin Springer officiating. Jewell was born to Thomas Jefferson Carver and Emmer Frances (Alford) Carver on January 28, 1903 in the Forest Grove Community. She lived in Forest Grove and Rockdale all her life. On February 12, 1921, she married James McGinnis “Mack” Clark in Thorndale. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack, sons, Edwin, Rufus and Howe King “Pete” Clark, brothers, Edgar, Thomas and Oscar Carver, sisters, Effie, Eula Lee, Lottie Alice and Allie Mae Carver, Grandson, Howe King “Petie” Clark, Jr., great granddaughter, Valarie Ann Timmerman and her parents. She is survived by her son, McGinnis Clark and wife Betty of Houston, her daughters, Edna Timmerman and husband Albert, Jr. of Rockdale and Ethel Guthrie and husband Allan of Coahoma; daughters-in-law, June and Margie Clark of Rockdale. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are Gus Clark, Wesley Henson, Douglas Springer, Wayne Roberts and Jonathan Muston. Jewell was a member of Rockdale Full Gospel Church and of the New Salem Home Demonstration Club in Rockdale. Jan. 6, 1915 – August 8, 2006 Blanche Modesette, 91, of Rockdale, passed away on August 8, 2006 at Manor Oaks Nursing Home. Rev. John Warren of St. John’s United Methodist church of Rockdale conducted graveside services on August 10, 2006 in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Blanche was born to Emil and Myrtle McLaughlin Miller on January 6, 1915 in the Pleasant Hill Community. She lived most of her life in Rockdale, also living in Austin and Bartlett. She and Gayle Tarver Modesette were married on May 6, 1939 in Rockdale. He preceded her in death in 1988. Also preceding her in death are her daughter, Judy Gayle Modesette, her parents, her sister, Eleanor Jenkins and brothers, Reginald and Pat Miller. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Morton and husband Lloyd of Rockdale and Alice Edmondson and husband Billy Don of Marble Falls; sister, Ethel Lanford of Austin; grandchildren: Sandra Satcher and husband, C.H., Linda Morton, Rhoni Collier, Evan Edmondson and wife Mandy, Darla Farmer and Philip Payne. Eight great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren also survive her. Blanche was a musician and loved playing the piano and would play the piano for the Senior Citizens’ Center and at the nursing home. April 20, 1917 – August 9, 2006 Phyllis Rhodes, 89, died on August 9, 2006 in Thorndale. She had been a resident of Oklahoma City, OK for the past 40 years. Dr. Marvin Hudson conducted the funeral services in Oklahoma City on August 12, 2006. Burial was in the Resurrection Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City. Phyllis was born in Rockport, WV on April 20, 1917 to Gola and Glenna Gant O’Brien. She married Robert Rhodes on May 19, 1935 in Cushing, OK. Her husband, Robert, parents and brother, Frank O’Brien preceded her in death. She is survived by her son Michael Rhodes and wife Elena Bolko and her daughter, Peggy Weise and husband Edward of Thorndale; grandchildren: Todd Smith, Tonni Talley and husband Kenneth and great grandson, Kenneth Talley, Jr. Pallbearers were Denning Crowe, Paul Stillwell, Rick earnest, Taylor Gross and Robert T. Smith. She graduated from Oilton High School in 1934 as Salutatorian. She was a member of New Hope. Memorials may be made to Vista Care Hospice, 2626 B. South 37th Street, Temple, TX 76504 June 28, 1918 – August 19, 2006 Ruth Marie Stedman, 88, of Lexington, passed away on August 10, 2006 at her home in Lexington. She had lived in Lexington for the past 18 months and was formerly of California. Dr. Greg Nichols conducted funeral services at First Christian Church In Lexington. Burial was in Gridley Cemetery in Gridley, CA. Ruth was born in Biggs, CA on June 28, 1918 to John L. and Eva (Drew) Heath. She married Bernard Claude Stedman on March 20, 1937 in Marysville, CA. Her parents, 6 brothers and 2 sisters preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Claude, of Lexington; sons, William C. Stedman and wife Daisy of Oktaha, OK, Edward R. Stedman of Roseville, CA and Donald H. Stedman and wife, Elvira of Lincoln, CA; daughters, Marjorie B. Copeland and Mary Carol Gusler and husband Jack E. all of Lexington. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. August 5, 2006 Wayne Holton Spence, 77, born in Lexington, Texas, went to be with his Lord on August 5, 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents Oras and Alma Spence, his sister Yolan Morgan, and brothers Winfrey Spence and Clyde Harvey. Married to Loretta Neely July 24, 1953 in Rockdale, Texas, they had one child, beloved daughter Bev Spence Roth who also preceded him in death. He is survived by Loretta, his wife of 53 years, grandson Nicholas Roth and wife April, brother Aubrey Spence of San Saba, Texas, and sister Sammie Daniels of Alvarado, Texas in addition to many nieces and nephews. Subsequent to serving proudly as a United States Marine for four years during the Korean War, he had a long career with Southwestern Bell and AT&T, retiring from AT&T in 1989. Pallbearers include Larry Neely, Greg Neely, Michael Morgan, Randy Spence, Alan Spence and Mickey Spence. The Funeral Service was officiated by Rev. John Arnall. The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, August 9th , at the Niday Funeral Home in Houston. Interment followed at South Park Cemetery. |
