July 15, 1915 – August 20, 2006 Geneva Allen, 91, of Giddings, passed away on August 20, 2006 at the Country Care Plex in Giddings. The funeral was held at the White Union Cemetery in Sandtown, Texas with Rev. Tim Clayton officiating. She was born in Texarkana, Texas on July 15, 1915 to Green B. and Ada Elizabeth Abshere Hevalow. She and Aubrey Allen Sr. were married May 23, 1934. She was a homemaker. She was a former Sunday School teacher at Timbergrove Baptist Church in Houston. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002, her parents, a sister, Ethel Word and a brother, Eugene Havelow. Geneva is survived by her daughter, Betty and Sid Childress of Giddings; 3 sons, Donald W. Allen of Giddings, Aubrey and Martha Allen of Magnolia and Michael and Millie Allen of Cypress; 6 grandsons, Randy and Veronica Eastep of Austin, Richard and Marcella Childress of Houston, Russell and Margie Childress of Broddus, Stoney Allen and Shawn and Jenny Allen of Houston and Scott Allen of Magnolia; 2 granddaughters, Michelle and Steve Heinrich of Magnolia and Tammy Milner of Magnolia; sister, Hazel Putch of Houston. 10 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren also survive. Memorials may be made to the Altzheimer’s Research Foundation. June 28, 1943 – August 13, 2006 Doris Jean Anschutz, 63, of San Marcos, formerly of Giddings, died on August 13, 2006 at Redwood Springs Assisted Living Center in San Marcos. Rev. Tim Clayton conducted the funeral service at First Baptist Church in Giddings on August 18, 2006. Burial was in the Ledbetter Cemetery. Doris was born on June 28, 1943 in Burton to Erie Albert and Della Stuermer Hinze. She married Louis B. Anschutz, Jr. on August 26, 1961 at Northside Baptist Church in Texas City. She attended school at Round Top-Carmine and had been employed for several years at Rost’s Café in Giddings as a waitress and cashier. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Giddings where she enjoyed being a part of the Joy Group. She enjoyed playing dominoes and traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by 3 children, Vivian Anschutz of Smithville, Louis Anschutz III of Richmond and Sherri Anschutz of Seguin; 5 grandchildren, Josh Foerster, Shandi Foerster of Smithville, Cody Baron of Seguin, Miranda Rainey of Seguin and Louis “Jeffrey” Anschutz of Giddings; and her sister, Rosemary Anselmo of Santa Fe, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, Myrtle Dannar Hinze, her husband, Louis, 2 grandsons, Bryan Anschutz and Joe Foerster; 2 brothers, Alfred and Edward Dannar and sister, Mary Frances Dannar. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Senior Ministry Program. December 30, 1921 – August 17, 2006 Thelma Marie Bradshaw, 84, passed away on August 17, 2006 at the South Austin Medical Center. The funeral was on August 22 at the Blue United Methodist Church in Blue. Brother Gary McManus officiated. Burial was in the Sanders Cemetery in Knobbs Springs. Thelma was born in Blue on December 30, 1921 to Ernest Night and Myrtle Mae (Brown) Jackson. She married Robert Lee Bradshaw in 1939. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, parents, brothers, Ernest Ray and Elmer Jackson (her twin brother) and her sister-in-law, Thelma Jean Jackson. Thelma is survived by 5 children, Doris M. Smith of Austin, Deloris A. Waggoner of Georgetown, Robert and Beverly Bradshaw of Lexington, Jerry and Debbie Bradshaw of Manor and Jimmy and Linda Bradshaw of Blue; sister-in-law, Mildred Jean Jackson of Lexington. She is also survived by 7 grandsons, 4 granddaughters, 20 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews cousins and friends. Jan. 25, 1915 – August 13, 2006 Mr. D. L. Canada, 91, died at the Central Texas Hospital in Cameron on Sunday, August 13, 2006. Funeral Services were held at True Light Baptist Church near Hearne with burial in the Hammond Colony Cemetery. Rev. J. E. Baker officiated. He was born in the Hammond Colony Community in Robertson County on January 25, 1915. His parents were Wallace and Addie Easter Canada. He was married to Odell Moore who preceded him in death, as did his parents, 4 brothers, James Olive, Wallace Canada, Jr., L.C. Canada and Leonard Canada; 6 sisters, Mamie Oliver, Myrtle Edwards, Pauline Jackson, Avis Jessie, Mineola Perry and Marie Oliver. D.L. was a retired laborer in road construction. He had lived in Hearne for many years and for the past three years in Rockdale. He was a member of the True Light Baptist Church. June 21, 1916 – August 16, 2006 Orene Currey, 90, passed away on August 16, 2006 in the Willie L Nursing Home in Cameron. Rev. Glynn Cummings of Grace Church in Cameron conducted graveside services at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale on August 20, 2006. Orene was born on June 21, 1916 in Lexington to Otto and Ruby Mae (Vinton) Meyer. She married Howard Currey on December 1, 1946 at the First Christian Church Parsonage in Rockdale. She was a homemaker. Her husband preceded her in death in 2001. She is survived by her son, William H. Currey of South Carolina; grandsons, Eric H. Currey also of South Carolina and Justin D. Currey of Arlington; great granddaughter, Kayla Currey of Keene; brother, Cecil “Pete” Meyer and wife Maxine of Cameron and sister, Amelia Alma Burgeson and husband Harold of Lago Vista. May 13, 1931 – August 15, 2006 Pete Escalante of Giddings died at St. David’s Medical Center in Austin on August 15, 2006. He was 75 years of age. The funeral service was at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Giddings on August 18, 2006 with Father Jim Olnhausen officiating. Burial was in the Giddings City Cemetery. He was born on May 13, 1931 in Mumford, Texas to Lucas and Consuela Cortez Escalante. He married Jean Perez on January 11, 1950 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Giddings. He worked as a truck driver for Southern Pacific Railroad for 41 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Nicolas, Felix and John Escalante. Pete is survived by his wife, Jean of Giddings; son, Arthur (Rocky) and Yolanda Escalante of San Antonio, grandson, Christopher Escalante of Austin; 5 brothers, Lalo and Julie Escalante of California, Eugene Escalante of Giddings, Robert and Mary Escalante, Raymone and Dee Escalente and Fernando and Joyce Escalante, all of California; 3 sisters, Margaret and Pancy Graciano, Stella Escalante and Anita Lozano, also all of California; 2 sisters- in-law, Petra Escalante of California and Frances Escalante of Giddings. Memorials may be made to St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Giddings. August 7, 1939 – August 20, 2006 Edgar Karl “Lightning” Weiser was born August 7, 1939 in Serbin to Karl and Clara Urban Weiser. He passed away at his home in Giddings on August 20, 2006. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin with Rev. Michael Buchhorn officiating. Burial to be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. On December 14, 1958, Edgar and Laverne Mitschke were married at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester. He was the owner of Weiser Welding and Repair. He is survived by his wife, Laverne, two sons, John Weiser and Dale and Sherry Weiser all of Giddings; 4 grandchildren, Brent Weiser of Austin, Dylan Weiser and Adriana Weiser of Giddings and McKalie Weiser of Austin; 3 sisters, Irene Fischer of Giddings, Dorothey and Marvin Kurio of Giddings and Delores Pietsch of Gatesville; brother, Alton and Paula Weiser of Giddings; mother-in-law, Wanda Mitschke of Winchester; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rudie Lee and Jeanette Mitschke of Houston. Preceding him in death were his parents, daughter, Patricia Rose Weiser, father-in-law, Rudie A. Mitschke; brothers-in-law, Martin Fischer and Wilbert Pietsch. September 11, 1919 – August 17, 2006 Lois Lunsford, a resident of Buckner Villas Retirement Community in Austin, went home to be with Jesus on August 17, 2006. Lois was born the oldest child of I.W. and Naomi Hester Sherman Parker in Lexington on September 11, 1919. She was a graduate of Texas Women’s University, and received her Master of Library Science degree from the University of Texas. Lois spent her professional career as a school librarian; first in Luling, followed by a brief time at Texas A & M University, and then for many years at Victoria College. Lois was preceded in death by her parents for whom she provided the loving care of a devoted daughter. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, W.C. Rowland, and her precious granddaughter, Ami Lunsford. She is survived by her husband of thirty-two years, Rev. J.M. Lunsford. When Lois and Jess married in March of 1974, she became Mimi to his children and grandchildren. Mimi has blessed the Lunsford family with her spiritual depth, her gracious charm, her intelligent wit, and her unwavering kindness and hospitality. She will be dearly missed by her stepsons, Bob Lunsford of Farmington, NM, Jim Lunsford of Dallas, Bill Lunsford of Austin and her stepdaughter and son-in-law, Lil and Clif Abshier of Bishop, Texas. Mimi has been a source of joy and inspiration to her five grandchildren, Jesse Lunsford of Austin, Walker Lunsford of Dallas, Micah (Jennifer) Abshier of Kerrville, Jessica Abshier of Bishop and Rachel (Brian) Snyder of Abilene. She was also blessed with two great granddaughters, Taylor and Avery Abshier, whom she dearly adored. She is also survived by her sister, Eunice Parker Means, who is also a resident of Buckner Villas Retirement Community in Austin, as well as countless cousins in the Parker and Sherman families. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Lexington on Sunday, August 20, 2006. Burial was at Lexington City Cemetery. Feb. 1, 1927 – August 19, 2006 Lee Muston, 79, died on August 19, 2006 at the Veterans Hospital in Temple. He was a lifelong resident of Rockdale. Funeral services were held at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale on August 22, 2006 with Rev. Jack Chelf of First Baptist Church in Rockdale and Rev. Jim Muston of Cordova, TN officiating. Burial was in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Lee was born on February 1, 1927 in Austin to Marion F. and Rosie E. (Morrison) Muston. He worked in construction at ALCOA – Rockdale operations from which he retired in 1989. His parents and 5 brothers, Otis, Amon, Fadie, Claudie and Irvin Muston preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Nannie of Rockdale; sons, Roy Lee Muston and wife, Bert of Pasadena and Rev. Jim Muston and wife, Sandy of Cordova, TN; daughters, Juanita Beason and husband, Billy, Bonnie Kelley and husband, Danny and Kathy Muston all of Rockdale. He is also survived by his brother, Frank Muston of Rockdale and 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Caleb, Muston Kendal Beason, Josh Muston, Jason Muston, Kevin Kelley, Aaron Townsend and Seth Rurup.
