June 22, 1922 – March 22, 2008 Dominga Basquez died at the age of 85 on March 22, 2008 at North Austin Medical Center in Austin. She was born on June 22, 1922 in Laferia, Texas to Silverio Ledesma and Felicitas (Castillo) Ledesma. She married Severo Basquez, Sr. on December 11, 1957. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and homemaker. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Baytown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Severo Basquez, Sr.; parents; and sister, Rafaela Medrano. She is survived by six children: Joe David and Ofelia Reyes of Forreston, Texas; Erasmo Reyes of Forreston, Benjamin, Sr. and Nohomi Basquez of Baytown, Texas, Beatris and Jesse Castro of Austin, Evangelina Almanza of Pflugerville and Severo, Jr. and Sandy Basquez of Baytown; and 14 grandchildren: Monica Cervantes, Jaclyn Valencia, Benjamin Basques, Jr., Ashley Basquez, Jonathan Castro, Eric Castro, Ezekiel Almanza, Rachel Basquez, Marina Basquez, Joann Reyes Aguirre, Joe David Reyes, Jr., Joel Reyes, Isidro Reyes and Annabel Pacheco. She is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 – 8 p.m. at Earthman’s Funeral Home in Baytown. Funeral services will be held on March 27, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Baytown. Burial will be in the Giddings City Cemetery. Pall bearers are: Benjamin Basquez, Jr., Jonathan Castro, Zeke Almanza, Eric Castro and Jesse Castro. Honorary Pall bearers are: Isidro Reyes, Joe Reyes, and Joe David Reyes, Jr. February 5, 1914 – March 15, 2008 Etta V. Gates was born on February 5, 1914 in Burleson County, Texas to Leonard D. and Rosetta (Bell) Marion, Sr. She passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale at the age of 94. A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the Pecan Street Church of Christ in Rockdale with burial following at the New Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale. Rev. Thester Maloy presided. Etta was a member of the Pecan Street Church of Christ and attended school in Caldwell. She moved to Rockdale from Tanglewood in 1985. She married James Morrison, Sr. in 1932. He passed away on July 15, 1936 and she married Clyde Gates on March 3, 1941 in Lee County, Texas. Clyde also preceded her in death on July 6, 1985. Etta is survived by one daughter, Vivian Wilburn and husband Elihue of Rockdale; one sister, Lillie Mae Dotray of San Antonio; sister-in-law Dorothy Marion of San Antonio and one daughter-in-law, Ruthie McMorris. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Eugene Shelby and wife Rapunzel of Dallas, Jimmy Morrison of Dallas, Joyce Davidson and husband Ray of Cedar Hills, Eddie Morrison and wife Tanisha of Duncanville, Jack Bomar and wife Lynn, Marvin J. Burks and wife Brenda, Althea R. Burks, Ernest Burks and wife Cynthia, all of San Antonio, Dorene Burnett of Waco, Shirley Embra and husband Elihue Wilburn, Jr. of Rockdale. Forty-two great-grandchildren and 57 great-great-grandchildren also survive her. She was preceded in death by her husbands, one son, James Morrison, Jr.; one daughter, Willie Lee Burks; her parents; six brothers: L. D., Cleveland, L.A., Willie Henry, H. Earl and Herman Marion; and one sister, Tommie B. Anderson. Pall bearers at her funeral included Robert Hutchinson, James Hutchinson, Kenneth Matlock, Katory Morrison, Tony Crawford, Jr. and Gary White. Honorary pall bearers were Alex Morrison, Myron Embra, Ronnie Morrison, Preston Gates, Haywood Richards and Elihue Wilburn, Jr. Faye Gould September 16, 1933 – March 20, 2008 Faye Gould died at the age of 74 on March 20, 2008 at her home in Rockdale. She was born on September 16, 1933 in Haskell, Texas to Clifford Glenn and Noble Gardner Glenn. She married Curtis Gould in Austin on August 23, 1963 and moved to the Rockdale Community. She was an operator of SWB Telephone and worked for the State Legislature. She also worked at Rockdale Insurance Co., Hodges Men’s Shop and the Fabric Shop. She was preceded in death by her son, Rickey G. Lee on May 20, 1998; her brother, Rou Glen; and her parents. She is survived by her husband, Curtis Gould of Rockdale; granddaughters, Wendy Nicole Lee Burke and husband Bryan of Blue Ridge, Tracy Lee Awalt and husband Andy of Fairfield; great-grandchildren, Elijah Justice Burke and Anna Haven Burke. She is also survived by her brother, Robert “Bob” Glenn and wife Grace of McLean, Texas and her sister-in-law, Rosalie Glenn of Jacksonville, Arkansas. Funeral services were held at the Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale at 10 a.m. on March 24, 2008. Burial followed in the Hugh Wilson Cemetery in Tanglewood. Brother Leslie Adams presided. Pall bearers were: Jim Gould, Bubba Gould, Andy Awalkt, Bryan Burke, Tommy Garrett and Jamie Doss. Honorary pall bearers were: Carl D. August 8, 1924 – March 20, 2008 Alfred Erich Lorenz was born to Adolph and Emma Lehmann Lorenz in Greenscreek, Texas on August 8, 1924 and was baptized at Bethany Lutheran Church in Greenscreek by Rev. Theo J. Kilian on August 10, 1924. He attended Bethany Parochial School and was confirmed on April 25, 1937 by Pastor Paul C. Eifert. He married Gertrude Groeschel on November 10, 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin by Pastor Herman Schmidt. Their marriage was blessed by four daughters: Carolyn, Jolene, Eunice and Jeanette. Alfred was a farmer and rancher by trade. Alfred and Gertrude started their farm life at Rabbs Prairie near La Grange. They were active members of Holy Cross Lutheran, Warda and Zion Lutheran, La Grange. In 1958 they moved to their farm in the Hills Community near Giddings and joined Immanuel Lutheran Church. Alfred was a faithful member and served his Lord as elder for many years. In 2002, Alfred and Gertrude retired from the farm and moved to their present home in Giddings. Alfred was a strong, hardworking man full of love, high values and a never ending sense of humor. Even in his last years when his health was failing, he never gave up his position as head of the family, continuing his shining example of a Christian role model, being a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, still cracking jokes and always sharing his firm belief in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Alfred went to his heavenly home on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at St. Mark’s Medical Center after reaching the age of 83 years, 7 months and 12 days. Alfred is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gertrude; and daughters Carolyn and husband Richard Hazel of Arlington, Jolene and husband Paul Fischer of Giddings, Eunice and husband John Siegmund of Ledbetter and Jeanette and husband Steve Janda of Hills. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and their families: Brian Fischer and wife Tammy and their sons Riley and Jack, David Fischer and wife Gina and their daughters Amanda and Emily, Jason Fischer and wife Chrissy and their son Lyndon, Matthew Siegmund, Scott Siegmund, Ian Janda, Jacob Janda and fiancé Sarah Gersch, and Kaitlyn Janda; one sister, Irene and husband Charles Parker of Houston and sister-in-law Mamie Lorenz of Tomball. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Arthur Lorenz and sister Ruth Galipp. All glory be to God! January 3, 1918 – March 20, 2008 A.J. “Mac” McCutcheon, 90, passed away on March 20, 2008 at the St. David’s Hospital in Georgetown. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the Lexington Cemetery with the Reverend Reuel Cooper presiding. Mac was born on January 3, 1918 in Atoka, Oklahoma to James L. and Emma Jane (Vandenberg) McCutcheon. He lived in Austin most of his life, working at his automotive shop, Mac’s Automotive. He married Rebecca Marie Kelley on November 1, 1941 in Austin where he became a 32 degree mason at the Hill City Lodge. Mac enjoyed his work, hunting, fishing, watching baseball and anything else that was outdoors. He was a strong man with good character and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Mac is survived by his sons James Madison McCutcheon and Donna Tatsch of Austin, Kelley McCutcheon and wife Sarah of Austin; his sister Irene Yeary of Austin; sisters-in-law Eunice McCutcheon of Durant, Oklahoma and Georgia Kelley of Houston; and his grandchildren Kimberly Ann Attala of Pflugerville, Kurt McCutcheon of San Antonio, Andrea McCutcheon of Austin, Todd McCutcheon and wife Christy of Lubbock, Danielle McCutcheon of San Antonio and Emma McCutcheon of Austin. Mac’s wife, Rebecca Marie, preceded him in death, as did one son Andrew J. McCutcheon and one grandson James Randall McCutcheon. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Grace Tidwell, Jewell Galbraith and Hazel Massey and brothers Gilbert, Howard and Rueben McCutcheon. F March 26, 1924 – March 22, 2008 Leroy Gilbert Niemtschk, 83, was born in Thorndale on March 26, 1924 to Emile and Adele Kramer Niemtschk. He went to Heaven to be with his Lord on Easter Eve, March 22, 2008 in the VA Hospital in Temple. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Marvin Niemtschk and sisters, Leona Buehorn, Mildred Patschke and Fayrene Menzel. He was a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale and attended St. Paul Lutheran School and Thorndale High School. He married Elyne Bieberstein at Ebenezer Lutheran Church on March 28, 1948. He worked for the late Emil Moerbe in Thorndale delivering ice and Southern Select Beer and later owned and operated with his wife Leroy’s Ice House in Thorndale. He was very talented playing his accordion and played with several bands including the Lone Star Ramblers. For the last 13 years he was a member of the Thorndale VFW Jamboree Houseband and was a volunteer at the Taylor Care and SPJST Nursing homes playing his accordion for the residents. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. He is survived by his faithful loving wife, Elyne; sons, Gerald and wife Pat Niemtschk and Larry and wife Charlotte Niemtschk of Thorndale, Michael and wife Jane Niemtschk of Lewisville; daughter, Debbie Dunn and husband Don of Corpus Christi; grandchildren, Douglas and wife Jennifer of Andover, Kansas, Vicky and husband Terry Laurence and Kelly Niemtschk of Thorndale, Rev. Bobby and wife Lori Niemtschk of El Paso, Illinois, Wade and wife Rhesa Dunn of Stanton, Clint Dunn of Corpus Christi and Andrew and Austin Niemtschk of Lewisville. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Dylan and Paige Laurence of Thorndale, Kelsey, Corbin, Cameron and Caden Niemtschk of Andover, Kansas and Simon and Anna Niemtschk of El Paso, Illinois; sister, Helen Scheer of Austin; brother-in-law, Clarence Menzel of Thorndale; sisters-in-law, Ruby and husband Norris Schroeder of Thorndale, Vernell and husband Alfred Zoch of Giddings and Glory Mac Bieberstein of Houston. August 2, 1920 – March 17, 2008 Eldie Fritz Mueller died at the age of 87 on March 17, 2008 at Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings. He was born to Arthur Mueller and Laura (Korb) Mueller on August 2, 1920 in Ledbetter, Texas. He married La Verna (Weishuhn) Mueller on December 5, 1943. He was a member of the Martin Luther Lutheran Church. He was employed by Don Nagel’s garage in Round Top for a few years. He then moved to Giddings where he worked for Tonn’s Shoe Shop and then at Harley Schuman’s Garage. He also drove a Texaco delivery truck delivering fuel to farmers. He then moved to Austin and worked for the Commission for the Blind School. After retirement he moved back to Giddings and worked at the Giddings State School in maintenance. He was preceded in death by his wife, La Verna Mueller; parents, Arthur and Laura Mueller; brother, Herbert C. Mueller; and sister-in-law, Minnie Albers Mueller. His is survived by his sisters-in-law, Milda Weishuhn McLean of Commerce, Texas and Elsie Albers Weishuhn of La Grange; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Services were held on March 20, 2008 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Ed Schwanke presided. Burial was in the Waldeck Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Martin Luther Lutheran Church. January 11, 1931 – March 21, 20082008 Joseph E. Miller died on March 21, 2008 at the age of 77 at Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale. He was born on January 11, 1931 to Paul Richard and Annie Mary (Matula) Miller in Smithville. He married Jo Ann Tanecka on November 17, 1953 in Smithville. He worked in the pot rooms at ALCOA, was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockdale, Rockdale Knights of Columbus #7014, Rockdale VFW Post #6525 and served in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed gardening, playing poker, listening to country music, watching football and loved visiting his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sons, Ernest paul Miller on October 21, 1955 and Michael Lane Miller on August 2, 1956; granddaughter Ashley Nicole Miller on November 22, 1991; his parents; nine brothers, Ludvick, Ernest, Jack, Buck, Rudolph, Zeke, Bill, Kate and Richard D. Miller; and two sisters, Lera Schultz and Mattie Keller. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Miller of Rockdale; sons, Gary Joe Miller of Taylor, Alan Dale Miller of Rosebud; grandchildren: Jordan Lee Miller and Jarrett Lane Miller of Taylor, Chelsea Danielle Miller and Olivia Kaelyn Miller of Rosebud; brother, Johnny Miller of Ventura, California; sisters, Millie Maio of Riverside, California and Louise Hannusch of Smithville. September 5, 1959 - March 22, 2008 Travis Weldon Robertson passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at his home in Lexington. He was 48 years of age. Travis was born on September 5, 1959 to Weldon and Patricia (Coker) Robertson in San Antonio, Texas. He married Shelly Langehennig on July 7, 1984 in Lexington. He worked as the Vice President at TransTex. Travis is survived by his wife, Shelly; his mother Patricia Robertson of Bulverde; his children Amanda Meagan Ann Robertson, Austin Travis Robertson, Colton Travis Robertson, Cameron William Robertson, Savanna Rose Robertson and Rosezanna Sheri Lynn Robertson, all of Lexington; his brother Michael and wife Kellye Robertson of Bulverde; his mother and father in-law Billie Ann and Kermit Langehennig of Lexington; sister-in-law Sherry and husband Mark Owens of Lexington; brothers-in-law William Langehennig, Kerry and wife Brenda Langehennig and Gregory and wife Gail Langehennig, all of Lexington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Travis was preceded in death by his father Weldon Robertson and a brother-in-law, Jeffrey Langehennig. Memorials can be made to the Lexington United Methodist Church or to a charity of choice. May 12, 1940 – March 18, 2008 Roy Yates died in his home in Rockdale on March 18, 2008 at the age of 67. He was born on May 12, 1940 in Dallas, Texas to Curtis Yates and Opal C. (Martin) Yates. He married Mary Louise Tate on August 18, 1985 in Rockdale. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in New Jersey, Greenland, Vietnam and other bases as a jet engine mechanic. He lived in Rockdale for the past six years and was formerly of Arlington. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary Yates of Rockdale; daughter, Lacy Whitt of Cedar Park; stepdaughter, Lori Anne Burk of Olathe, Kansas; stepsons, Lonnie Ginn of South Lake and Larry Ginn of Keller. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Carlene Mullins of North Richland Hills; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Graveside service was held on March 21, 2008 in the Moore Memorial Garden Cemetery in Arlington, Texas. |
