November 24, 1928 – September 7, 2006 Willene Howarth, 77, passed away on September 7, 2006 at the Renaissance Villa in Rockdale where she had resided for 1 year. She had lived previously in New Jersey, Arlington, and Austin. A graveside service was held at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale on September 9, 2006. Rev. Douglas Springer officiated. She was born November 24, 1928 in Rockdale to Aaron and Willa Mae (Booth) Alford. She married Robert Howarth in Arlington, Texas on October 10, 1958. She worked as a restaurant manager. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers John and Lee Hurst Alford. Survivors are her sister, Thelma Caffey of Rockdale, nieces, Vickie Caffey of Milano and Diane Ebenholtz of Austin and nephews, Aaron Roy Alford of Black Jack and Gerry Alford of Cameron. June 9, 1928 – September 10, 2006 Funeral services were held on September 12, 2006 for Eugene Kaderka, 78, of Rockdale, who passed away at Rockdale Community Assisted Living on September 10, 2006. Rev. Jan Campbell of Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale conducted the services at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Eugene was born on June 9, 1928 in Davilla to Adolph and Millie (Volchik) Kaderka. He was a metal worker for ALCOA Operations in Rockdale. On December 11, 1947, he married Joyce Simcik in Granger. He was preceded in death by his son, David Kaderka in 1988 and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Rockdale, son, Johnnie Kaderka and wife Debbie of Houston, daughter, Bonnie Davis and husband Charles of Georgetown. Also surviving are grandchildren, Christina Jimenez and husband Vincent of Rockdale, Natalie Bush and husband Brian of Cedar Park and Amy Kaderka of Abilene; great grandchildren, Hanna, Haven, Halle and Ava. Serving as pallbearers were Bob Bartosh, Ike Korenek, Darwin Kaderka, John Vrana, Ted Thompson and Tutor Doss. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Elchinger, Frank Kubiak, Emil Kaderka and Alvin Wilganowski. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and enjoyed activities with the retired Ingot Department Retirees. January 28, 1929 – September 4, 2006 Maybelle Joyce Loehr, 77, of Caldwell, passed away on September 4, 2006. A private family memorial service was held. She was born in Caldwell on January 28, 1929 to Ernst and Hilda Mueller Peters. She married Herman F. Loehr, Jr. in December, 1950. Her husband, parents and sister, Bessie Lee Linnstaedter predecease her. She is survived by her sons, Karl and Kenneth Loehr both of Caldwell and grandsons, Erich Ryan of Caldwell and Scott Alden of College Station. September 18, 1919 – September 8, 2006 Alpha Omega Morton, 86, passed away on September 8, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan. She was a lifelong resident of Black Jack in Burleson County. Funeral services were held at Black Jack Baptist Church followed by burial in the Black Jack Cemetery, with Rev. James H. “Buddy” Morton and Rev. Kyle Morton officiating. Pallbearers were Jamie Hibbeler, Kevin Hibbeler, Stephen Hibbeler, Wesley Morton, Brian Morton and Eric Morton. Alpha was born on September 18, 1919 in Milam County to Charlie A. and Roxie A. (Springer) Rogers. She and James Franklin Morton were married on February 19, 1938 in Rockdale. Her husband, sisters, Barbara Edney and Charlene Wilhite; brother, Alfred and great granddaughter, Maggie Schneider predecease her. She is survived by her sons, James H. “Buddy” Morton of Black Jack, John Wayne Morton of Thorndale and Gerald E. Morton of Rockdale; daughter, Ann Morris of Black Jack; sisters, Bernice Shelander of Kilgore and Doris Crim of Tanglewood. Twelve grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren also survive. She was a member of Black Jack Baptist Church for many years. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and gardening and was a member of the Quiltin’ Bees. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren. July 21, 1934 – September 5, 2006 Bill Stover was born in Iraan, Texas, in Pecos County, to Luther B. and Myrtle Stover on July 21, 1934. His father was a roughneck working for Marathon Oil at the time. He is survived by his older brother Luther B. Stover, Jr and his wife Betty. His older sister Norma Lyles predeceases him. He grew up in Iraan and went through school there. He attended the University of Texas his freshman year and then transferred to Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, from which he graduated with a degree in Business. Bill met Cherry Reynolds at college and they married on January 28, 1956. He graduated at the age of 21 and went to work for Chevron Oil Company. He is survived by his wife, his oldest son Dempsey Wayne Stover, and his son, Bill’s grandson, Jeremey Wayne Stover and his wife Lyndsey and Dempsey’s daughter Jamey Stover Newton and her husband Noah. Bill is also survived by his daughter Teri Stover Munn and her husband Jeff, her children Jenifer Hopper and Jared Ray Hopper and her step-children Jamie Munn and Michael Munn. He is also survived by his youngest son Stacey Wayne Stover and his sons Josey Wayne Stover and Dylan Wayne Stover. The middle name of Wayne has become a family tradition among the sons and grandsons. Bill worked for Chevron for 21 years, then for two years he worked for an oil business consulting company called Aminol. He then worked for the Triton Engineering Consulting Firm until he retired. Bill worked all over the world, always in the oil business. More than anywhere else, the family’s home base was Midland, Texas. When Bill retired, he wanted to come home to Lexington, Texas, his wife’s hometown. He was a member of the Lexington United Methodist Church and a much beloved member of the community. He will be sorely missed. Funeral services were held at the Lexington United Methodist Church on September 8, 2006, with Rev. Linda O’Neal officiating. Burial was in the Lexington City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Norris Wallin, Buster Dickey, Sleepy Simpson, Red Roe, Bob Donbroski and Al Theriot. November 26, 1916 - September 14, 2006 Billie Curlee, 89, of Conroe passed away on September 14, 2006 at Park Manor Nursing Home in Conroe. A funeral service was held on September 18, 2006 at Mims Baptist Church in Conroe, where she was a member. Burial was in the Hugh Wilson Cemetery at Tanglewood. Billie was born in Muldoon, Texas on November 26, 1916 to Lawson and Nannie (Braddock) Willeford. She and Shelby H. Curlee were married on June 27, 1937 in Houston. She had worked as Rockdale Chamber of Commerce Manager and for a real estate company in LaGrange several years and for Superior Oil Co. in Conroe. Her husband, Shelby, son Shelby Harold and grandson, Rick Pearce preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter Janelle Pearce and husband Fred of Montgomery, grandchildren, Sam Pearce and wife Stephanie, Melissa Thomas, Shelby Curlee and wife Ame; great grandchildren, Samuel, Stephen and Shelby Pearce, Cody and Cheyenne Thomas and Jaxon Curlee. September 29, 1925 – September 17, 2006 Ross Truman Dungan, 80, of Giddings, passed away at his home on September 17, 2006. Brother Jim Heckman conducted the funeral service at Ridgeway Cemetery in Paige on September 18, 2006. Ross was born in McDade to Albert Ross and Grace Mobley Dungan on September 29, 1925. He and Josephine Compton were married in Giddings on October 17, 1962. He was retired from Ray Geo Physical, an oil exploration company. Preceding him in death are his parents and his son, Claude Ross Dungan. His wife, Jo of Giddings survives him. He is also survived by his son, Albert and Linda Dungan of Hutto, grandson, Brad Dungan of Hutto and Jessie Lawson, the mother of Claud Dungan. Mr. Dungan was a member of VFW Post 4475 in Giddings and enjoyed fishing and nature. He served in WWII from March, 1944 to June 1946 on USAHS Republic Hospital Ship as a medic in Panama and the Philippines. Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley. September 17, 1924 - September 15, 2006 Mary Cook, 81, passed away on September 15, 2006 at her home in Rockdale. The funeral service was September 19, 2006 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Rev. John Warren of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rockdale, Rev. Morris Cook and Rev. Willie Phillips officiated. Mary was born on September 15, 1924 in Sacramento, California. She and Byron Floyd Cook, Jr. were married in Gainsville, Texas on March 23, 1946. She was a nurse for Richards Memorial Hospital and also the school nurse for Rockdale ISD. Her parents and a brother, Richard Dean Cunningham preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, B.F. Cook of Rockdale, sons, Byron Cook III, M.D. of Longview, Robert T. Cook of Liberty and Morris C. Cook of Howe; daughter, Rebecca Kay Cook Kirkpatrick of Moore, OK; brothers, Milton Kirkpatrick of McCloud, OK, Jerry Cunningham of Chickasha OK and Don Cunningham of Norman, OK; sister Margie Henson of Edmond, OK. Eight grandchildren, Courtney Jo Spearman, Chad Cook, Seth Cook Jessica Cook, Talitha Cook, Kayla Cook, Taylor Cook and Mack Hunter also survive her. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rockdale and a registered nurse with a degree from SMU. April 27, 1956 – September 16, 2006 Mary Louise Watson, 50, of Ledbetter, died on September 16, 2006. Funeral services were September 17, 2006 at the Phillips & Luckey Chapel in Giddings. Burial was in the Giddings City Cemetery. Roy Hardesty officiated. She was born in Coral Gables, Florida on April 27, 1956. She worked as a medical assistant. She is survived by her daughter, Trish Watson and Randy Tobola of Giddings, granddaughter, Madison Lynn Tobola of Giddings, companion, Michael A. Musgrove of Ledbetter and his children and grandchildren; her parents, John and Margaret Schultz of Tallahassee, FL., sister, Julia M. Schulz also of Tallahassee, mother-in-law, Barbara Hudetts of Ledbetter. October 1, 1954 – September 16, 2006 Lynda Jean Knight, 51, of Franklin passed away at the Cornerstone Hospital in Austin on Saturday, September 16, 2006. Rev. Jimmy Sanders of Gause Baptist Church will conduct the funeral service on Wednesday, September 20 at 2 pm at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Serving as pallbearers are Jeremiah Ybarra, Sr., Tom Overturf, Richard Benham, Clint Shaw, Owen Knight, Walter Brown III, James Stewart and Eddie Harvey. Honorary pallbearers are Lucas Roach, Matthew Thurman, and Andrew Thurman. Lynda was born in Cameron on October 1, 1954 to Alex William and Margie Marie Shafer Kornegay. She was a LVN with various nursing agencies for 13 years. She and George Ray Knight, Sr. were married at Cameron on December 9, 1974. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hearne. Her father precedes her in death. Knight. November 24, 1953 - September 16, 2006 Gene Hall, 52, of Giddings, died at Christopher House in Austin on September 16, 2006. Funeral service will be at First Baptist Church in Giddings on Thursday, September 21, 2006 at 2:00 pm. with Rev. James Roberts officiating. Pallbearers are Gary Shaver, Jason Seale, Miller Bassler, Mickey Hunt, Darrell Enderland, Joe Kearny, John Kitz and Ron Popp. Gene was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on November 24, 1953 to Charles and Sarrah Hall. He and Leah Graham were married at First United Methodist Church in Giddings on June 15, 1991. He was General Manager of Bassler Energy in Deanville. He had previously been employed by Hodges Trucking in Bryan and Bobby Lehmann Trucking in Giddings. He is survived by his wife, Leah, son David and daughter Danielle Hall all of Giddings; mother, Cassie Hall of Martinsville, IL, 2 brothers, David Hall of Martinsville and Denzel Lee Hall of Yucca Valley, CA; 3 sisters, Polly Miller of Tulsa, OK, Cheryl Hall of Martinsville, IL, and Nadine McMahan of Decatur, IL; parents-in-law, Larry and Shirley Graham of Giddings; 2 brothers-in-law, Jerry Graham of Giddings and Tim Graham of Austin. He was preceded in death by his father, brother, Wesley, nephew, Brandon Lewis and niece, Jessica Swab. November 5, 1922 – September 15, 2006 E.C. Knippa, of Fedor passed away on September 15, 2006 at the Giddings Healthcare Center. He was 83 years of age. Rev. Leif Hasskarl conducted the funeral service on September 18, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor. Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery. E. C. was born in Loebau on November 5, 1922 to Emil Carl and Adele Alma Woelfel Knippa. He and Madeline Tschatschula were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings on July 8, 1946. He worked in many professions including LCRA Giddings, Southern Pacific in Giddings, ship yard and part time movie theater projectionist in the State of Washington, Ford Motor Company in Houston, AAL representative in Belleville, Bryerson Steel Company in Houston and San Antonio, sold real estate in Giddings, General Store manager in Lago Vista and H & H Block in Giddings. He also enjoyed farming and ranching. He served in many offices of his church. He was actively involved with the Wendish Society as it was being organized in Lee County. He was instrumental in organizing fundraisers for the Kidney Foundation in San Antonio. He was a charter member of The Rotary Club in Giddings. E.C. traveled all over the United States, Canada and Alaska. He enjoyed fishing, golf, Skat, dominoes, reading and telling stories. He is survived by his sister, Jane and Clarence Schimank of Fedor, 3 brothers, Rudy and Jeanette Knippa of Lincoln, Leroy and Delores Knippa of New Braunfels and Freddie and Ann Knippa of Anna, Tx; 2 sisters-in-law, Betty Marie Knippa of Midland and Betty Jo Knippa of Giddings. His wife, Madeline, parents and 3 brothers, Edwin, Lawrence and James preceded him in death. August 21, 1961 – September 15, 2006 Roy Little, 45, of Milano, died on Friday, September 15, 2006 at Richards Memorial Hospital. A memorial service was held at Master’s Gateway Church in Milano on Sunday, September 17, 2006 with Pastor Ross Cunningham officiating. Roy was born at Post, Texas to Elmer B. and Billie June (Foley) Little. He was a carpenter. His parents and his brother, Wayne Little precede him in death. He is survived by his wife, Linda of Milano, sons, Shawn Little of Milano and Billy Wayne Little of Colorado, daughters, Rosie and Sarah Little of Milano. He is also survived by a grandson, Wesley Little of Colorado, 2 brothers, Raymond Little and wife Donna of Gause and Bob Little of Milano, and a sister, Mary Hayes and husband Tim of Lubbock. February 25, 1919 - September 16, 2006 Adolph McVoy, 87, passed away on September 16, 2006 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple. He was a life long resident of Rockdale. Rev. Craig Wills conducted the funeral service at First Christian Church in Rockdale with burial in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Pallbearers were Geff Gebhart, Jason Gebhart, Justin Bennett, Scott Frei, Bobby Pelzel, Tommy Neinaber, and Jody Pelzel. Adolph was born on February 25, 1919 in Rockdale to Alfred Adolph, Sr. and Lula Mae (Alexander) McVoy. He and Hilda Gest were married on June 11, 1943 at Rockdale. He owned and operated McVoy Grocery & Feed Store in Rockdale from 1943 until his retirement in October of 1999. He was a member of First Christian Church in Rockdale, and received Elder Emeritus Award. He was a Board member of First Christian Church for many years. In 1936, he graduated from Rockdale High School. During World War II, he served in the US Army as an infantryman in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He is survived by his wife, Hilda, of Rockdale; daughters, Janice Pelzel and husband, Bobby of Rockdale, Lori McVoy also of Rockdale and Mary Jo Bennett of Conroe; grandchildren, Geff Gebhart, Jenny Frei and husband Scott, Jason Gebhart and wife Sunny, Hilary Bennett, Justin Bennett, Jody Pelzel and wife Kathy, Judy Pelzel and Kevin Pelzel; great grandchildren, Courtney Gebhart, Joshua Pelzel and Christa Pelzel. Adolph was a lifelong cattle rancher and a Volunteer Fireman for over 25 years. He was a member of W.O.W. and of V.F.W. He was interviewed by Tumblewood Smith in 1999. He loved playing dominoes and participated in domino tournaments and never missed a domino game on Tuesday and Thursday nights. He was also a member of the Rockdale Historical Society. January 15, 1914 – September 14, 2006 Mrs. Clara Matthijetz passed away on September 14, 2006 at the Giddings Healthcare Center in Giddings. She was 92 years of age. Funeral services were September 16, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. John Davis and Rev. Robert Tiner officiating. Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery. Clara was born on January 15, 1914 in Serbin to Alvin C. and Selma Mierstchin Moerbe. She and Walter Matthijetz were married on March 28, 1937 at St. Paul Lutheran in Serbin. She was a florist and owned Clara’s Flower Shop in Giddings for 25 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Walter “Buddy” Matthijetz, Jr., daughter, Selma Marie Davis, 2 brothers, Fred and Victor Moerbe and a sister-in-law, Gussie Moerbe. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Walter of Giddings, daughter, Nancy and Doug Alexander of Giddings, daughter-in-law, Janet Matthijetz of Austin, son-in-law, Terry Davis of Giddings, 6 grandchildren, Kristen and Kevin Finch of Salado, Karen and Shaun Martin of Hawley, Terri Lyn and Tim Schmidt of Crawford, Steve and Elly Davis of Miami Lakes, FL, Candice Alexander of Giddings and Tara Alexander of Huntsville. She is also survived by 7 great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Waldeen Moerbe of Giddings. In addition to loving and taking great pride in her floral work, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, dancing and fishing. She loved children, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aid for many years.
