Kevin D. Caffey

December 17, 1981 – September 22, 2006

Kevin Caffey died on Friday, September 22, 2006 in Coffeyville, Kansas. He was 24. Rev. Larry Griffith of the First Baptist Church in Thorndale conducted funeral services on September 28, at Phillips & Luckey Chapel in Rockdale. Burial was in the Salty Cemtery near Thorndale. Pallbearers were Jared Finch, Ronnie Niemtschk, Lou Bowman, Rocky Gage, Stephen Zuniga and Cory Peacock. Honorary pallbearers were Jason Schwarz, Justin Schwarz, Robert Reese, Tony Pope, and Kim White.

Kevin was born on December 17, 1981 in Taylor to Randy and Nell Pinkerton Caffey. He worked for Veolia (formerly Onyx) in Rockdale. He was a 2000 graduate of Thorndale High School, and enjoyed fishing and anything outdoors. He was a hard worker and dedicated employee.

He is survived by his parents, Nell Caffey of Thorndale and Randy Caffey of Waco; grandparents, Kathryn Grisham and Bobby and Betty Caffey of Thorndale and Lester Grisham of Elgin; brother and sister, Keith and Kayla Caffey of Thorndale.

Norma Jean Daniell

July 8, 1943 - September 25, 2006

Norma Jean Daniell, 63, passed away on September 25, 2006 at her home near Milano. Funeral services were held September 29, 2006 at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was in the Lilac Cemetery in Sharp. Rev. Doug Springer officiated.

Norma Jean was born in Austin on July 8, 1943 to Floyd Freeman and Beatrice (Dorsett) Gooding. She and Billy Boyd Daniell were married in Lockhart on May 17, 1976. She was self-employed as an antique dealer. She is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Bill of Milano, daughters, Barbara L. Wallace of Hutto and Kimmy Gibson and husband Darrell of Rockdale; stepsons: David Daniell and wife LuAnn of Sharp, Darrell Daniell of California, Gary Daniell and wife Selina of Rockdale, Stephen Daniell of Thorndale and James Daniell of Elgin; granddaughters: Naomi, Amber, Misti, Tasha, Sadie, Katie, and special granddaughter, Kaitlynn Tyler Gibson; 8 step grandchildren: Brandon, Derek, Kassie, Lacie, Clinton, Stephen, D.L.Gibson and Celia Gibson; great grandchildren: Alexandra and Peyton; step great grandchildren: Garrett and Cade; brother, Floyd B. Gooding, Sr. and wife Denise of New Braunfels.

Verna McMillan

February 6, 1929 – September 21, 2006

Verna McMillan,77, passed away on September 21, 2006 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple. She had lived in Rockdale since 2001. Funeral services were held at Forest Grove Christian Church on September 24, 2006 with Rev. Chuck Salmon officiating. Pallbearers were George Paul, Asa York, John Szymura, Trey Duran, Shawn McNiel and Joe York, Jr.

Verna was born in Three Rivers, Texas on February 6, 1929 to Joseph Marion and Ophelia Pursley. She owned and operated a dry cleaning business. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 1 sister and her grandson, Cameron York.

She is survived by her daughters, Ruth Paul of Rockdale, Wanda Duran of Ft. Worth and Barbara NcNeil and husband Shawn of Rockdale; grandchildren: George Paul of Houston, Leigh Stitham and husband Jason of Houston, Jessica York of Rockdale, Asa York of Brackettville, Mentie York of Rockdale, John Szymura of Venice Beach, CA, Trey Duran of Rio Grande City; great granddaughter, Riley Grace Stitham of Houston; brother, Robert Pursley of Bandera; her twin sister, Vera Estep of Devine; sisters, Myrtle Duderstadt of Fair Oaks, Texas, Doris Scoggins of Lyttle and Elsie Splawn of Devine.



Jane Pelzel

November 25, 1942 – September 21, 2006

Jane Pelzel, 63, died on September 21, 2006 at Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale. Pastor Jan Campbell of Peace Lutheran Church conducted the memorial service at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale on September 23, 2006.

Jane was born on November 25, 1942 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Mac and Frances (Coulter) McCaskill. She and Clayton R. Pelzel were married October 29, 1960 in Friendship Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Linda Garcia and granddaughter, Chelsea Pelzel.

She is survived by her husband, Clayton of Rockdale, sons, Clayton Lee Pelzel and wife Audrey of Rockdale and Thomas Pelzel and wife Kelli of Rockdale; daughters, Karen Pelzel of Deanville, Cindy Pelzel of Rockdale and Melissa Janecek and husband Dwayne of Fulshear; grandchildren: Clay, Nick, and Allison Pelzel, Wesley, Benjamin, and Logan Pelzel, Jerilynn, Jon, and Jake Machac, Kelli Heltman, Stryker and Brittany Sulak, John and Sarah Snelson; sister, Judy Robbins and husband Dannie of Buda.

Jane was a member of Peace Lutheran in Rockdale where she taught children’s Sunday School.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or American Parkinson Foundation.

Karen Dianne Hosek Rosenberg

October 19, 1954 – September 24, 2006

Karen Rosenberg, 51, died on September 24, 2006 in Austin. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. David Payne of Bee Creek United Methodist Church and Rev. Barry Methvin and Calvin Springer at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Austin Ament, Jared Ament, Keyloe McKenzie, Fritz Feltner, Milton Brooks and Jim Darwin.

Karen was born October 19, 1954 in Cameron and was raised in Rockdale. Her parents were Jerry and Peggy (Dreher) Hosek. She was a flight attendant for Delta Airlines for 26 years. She and Ray Rosenberg were married April 8, 2006 in Spicewood, where she resided at the time of her death.

She is survived by her husband, Ray, of Spicewood, sons, Colin A. Butschek and William Chase Butschek also of Spicewood; mother-in-law, Sylvia Rosenberg of New Orleans and sister, Debbie Ament and husband Charles of Gatesville.

Karen was a member of Bee Creek United Methodist Church in Spicewood. She graduated from Rockdale High School in 1973, graduated SWT University in 1977 with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. She was a graduate of Delta Flight Training School in 1980.

Lillie V. Ralston

December 2, 1926 – September 26, 2006

Lillie V. Ralston, 79, of Fairfield, passed away at the Fairview Nursing Home on September 26, 2006. Funeral services were held September 29 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Rev. Don Sults officiated. Pallbearers were Jeff Ralston, Matthew Ralston, Bruce Criddle, Alan Criddle, Mike Logan, and Ronnie Archer.

Lillie was born on December 2, 1026 in the Black Jack Community in Burleson County to Robert Herman and Lois Velma Key Lynch. She married Johnny Guy Ralston, Jr. On December 24, 1947 in Rockdale. She was a homemaker, a former hostess for Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale, manager for Kenwin Dress Shop in Rockdale and also worked for W.T. Pearson’s Flower Shop. Her husband Johnny Guy, her parents and a brother, Gus J. Lynch preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sons, Johnny G. Ralston III of Fairfield and Stephanie Blivins; daughter, Janice Brown of Austin and H.C. Wallace; grandchildren: Jeff and Matthew Ralston, Laurie Bonner and Clayton Hyden; great grandchildren: Sutton, Emily and Rynna Bonner; brother, Bobby Lynch of Van Vleck and a sister, Opal Criddle of Texas City.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Rockdale. Her hobbies included golf and bowling. Memorials may be made to Hand in Hand Hospice, 208 S. 32nd St., Corsicana, TX 75110.

Katheryne O’Connor

September 17, 1925 – September 25, 2006

Katheryne O’Connor, 81, died on September 25, 2006 at Citizens Medical Center in Victoria. Private funeral services were held with Minister Bill Whaley of Murray St. Church of Christ officiating.

Katheryne was born on September 17, 1925 in Rockdale to Alfred Balhorn and Maggie Balhorn Redden. She married Dr. Charles E. O’Connor on August 2, 1947 in Hearne. She was a long time member of Murray Street Church of Christ in Rockdale and a member of Young at Heart in Rockdale where she enjoyed the friendships. Her husband, parents and stepfather, W.F. “Snow” Redden preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Larry O’Connor of Duncanville; daughters, Patty Cook and husband Tommy of Victoria and Jody Tyler and husband Rick of Longview; grandchildren, Vicki and Tres Smith, Leigh and Steven Klatt, Tommy and Amy Cook, Charlotte O’Connor, Dustin O’Connor, Jason and Clay Tyler; great grandchildren, Tanner and Kayleigh Smith.

Quenten Zane Rhodes

April 26, 1937 – September 30, 2006

Quenten Rhodes, 69, of Giddings, passed away at the Heart Hospital of Austin on September 30, 2006. Mark Wilson and Ricky Spacek conducted funeral services at the Church of Christ in Giddings on October 3, 2006. He was buried in the Rhodes Family Cemetery in Warda. Pallbearers were Michael Rhodes, Josh Wilson, Wesley Rhodes, Quenten Rhodes, Aaron Thornburg, Carley Rhodes, Roy Rhodes, Logan Rhodes, Dusty Rhodes and Bradley Riley.

Quenten was born to John Wiley (Boot) and Zelma Prather Rhodes on April 26, 1937 in Levelland, Texas.

He was a gas-processing expert for Newpoint Gas Services in College Station. He married Kathryn Jean Cotton on February 2, 1950 at White Face, Texas. Following Kathryn’s death, he married Paula Riley on October 30, 2004 in Fort Worth. His parents and infant brother also precede him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Paula, of Giddings; 5 sons, Wiley and Debbie Rhodes of Duncan, OK, Wade and Laurie Rhodes of Bryan, Joe Don (J.D.) and Glenda Rhodes of Giddings, Zane and Tracie Rhodes of College Station and Jerry and Hollie Rhodes of La Grange; a daughter, Laurie and Mark Wilson of College Station; 13 grandchildren, Michael, Carley and Abby Rhodes of Duncan, OK, Heidi, Roy and Wesley Rhodes of Bryan, Joshua and Jessica Wilson of College Station, Logan and Alivia Rhodes of Giddings, Quenten Rhodes of College Station, Ashley Brimer and Dusty Rhodes of La Grange; 3 step children, Barry and Beth Riley of Ft. Worth, Dawn and Mike Thornburg of Ft. Worth and Eric Riley of Seattle, WA; 4 step grandchildren: Bradley and Brittany Riley and Heather and Aaron Thornburg of Ft. Worth; 2 brothers, Joe and Darla Rhodes of Clovis, NM and Don and Kay Rhodes of Hereford; sister, Myrlene Read of Eagle, ID.
