Mark Anthony Alva

December 23, 1969 – October 21, 2006

Mark Alva, 36, of Giddings, died on October 21, 2006 in Giddings. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at 3:00 PM in the New Testament Holiness Church in Dime Box with Pastor Annie Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Giddings City Cemetery.

Mark was born to Louis and June Kreger Alva on December 23, 1969 in Dallas. He worked as a carpenter in the construction industry. He enjoyed drawing and collecting knives and shot glasses.

He is survived by his parents Louis and June Alva of Dime Box, daughter, Misti Dawn Alva of Brownwood, sister, Lynn and Tom Graham of Lewisville, 2 brothers, Michael Alva of Dime Box and Matthew Alva of Caldwell; grandparents, Robert and Norma McPhie of Odgen, UT. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Samuel and Susan Alva.

Ellen Brown

Feb.17, 1923 - October 17,2006

Ellen Brown passed away October 17, 2006 at the age of 83. She was born February 17, 1923 to Johnathon and Besse Barnhill in Lexington, Texas. She was the great great granddaughter of Captain James Shaw, a hero of the Battle of San Jacinto. She was also a Lantana Duchess at Texas A&I University in Kingsville. Ellen will be remembered for her years of being a fashion model in New York City. We will always remember her for her beauty of heart and face, her compassion, and generosity. Her home reflected her personality - full of light, blooming plants, music, and mostly, the joyous soul of Ellen. She was an accomplished musician , playing the piano, organ, trombone, and tuba, as well as being an accomplished vocalist (soprano).

She is survived by her son, Danny (Billy) Wade of Banquete, Texas; her daughters, Ellen Britting (Paul) Young of Sinton, Texas, and Lynne Britting of California; her grandchildren, Deidra (Mark) Mullen of Los Fresnos, Texas, Weston (Jennifer) Wade of Corpus Christi, Texas, Mandee Kuenzle, Robert Kuenzle, Garlyn (Julie) Punao, Lily Punao, and Aubrey Fitzgerald, and great-grandchildren, Morgan and Ian Mullen, Brianna, Taylor, Colton and Austin Wade, Amanda Surgent, Devon and Michael Beacham, and numerous close friends.

Private graveside services will be held in Lexington, Texas at Lexington City Cemetery.

Services are entrusted to Turcotte- Piper Mortuary, 20 General Cavazos, Kingsville, Texas 78363.

Leslie Elton Emmrich

October 13, 1918 – October 16, 2006

Mr. Leslie Elton Emmrich, 88, passed away at Giddings Health Care Center on October 16, 2006. The funeral service was held on October 20, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Pastor Robert Tiner officiating. Burial was in the Giddings City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Curtis Oltmann, Clint Oltmann, Jarrett Bise, Bill Ashmore, Colby Oltmann, John Moerbe, Jr, and Nathan Emmrich.

Mr. Emmrich was born on October 13, 1918 in Giddings to Fritz and Minnie Werner Emmrich. He was the owner of Emmrich Feed Mill. His parents, brother and sister-in-law, Norfleet and Ruth Emmrich and his brother –in-law, Henry Dunk, Jr. precede him in death.

He is survived by his sister, Ruby Dunk of Giddings, Nephews, Jerrell Dunk and wife Oranell of Giddings and Nathan Emmrich of Buda; Nieces: Janet Oltmann and husband James and Joyce Bise and husband Troy all of Giddings, Duhannah Ashmore and husband Bill of Austin and Yvette Emmrich of Elgin.

Edna Jean Hayman

May 10, 1907 – October 19, 2006

Edna Hayman, 99, of Milano passed away on October 19, 2006 at the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. Funeral services were held on October 21, 2006 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Loren Johnson of Milano First Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in the Milano Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jack Kirk, Brian Gilbert, James Walker, David Westbrook, Michael Garner, Jeremy Gilbert and Gary Morgan.

Mrs. Hayman was born on May 10, 1907 in Milano to Thomas “Jeff” and Ada Elizabeth (Ivy) Morgan. She lived most of her life in Milano. On September 15, 1928, she married Lawrence Hayman at Smyrna, near Milano. She was a homemaker and owned and operated a café in Milano from 1951 until 1964. She is preceded in death by her husband, son, Clarence Hayman, grandson, Joe Hayman, brothers, Leonard, William “Bill” and Ben Morgan and sisters, Elizabeth Walker, Nora Booker and Luella Booker.

She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Simmons of Milano, daughter-in-law, Lanelle Hayman of Milano, Grandchildren, Steven Simmons of Milano, Donna Gilbert of Cameron, and Marilyn Wood of Copperas Cove; Great grandchildren, Brian Gilbert, Misty Gilbert, Jeremy Gilbert, Christe Garner and Michael Garner; great great grandchildren, Kayla Gilbert and Morgan Gilbert.

Edna was a member of First Baptist Church in Milano and a graduate of Milano High School.

Robert D. Jenkins

October 4, 1945 – October 17, 2006

Robert Jenkins, 61, of Rockdale died on October 17, 2006 in the Manor Oaks Nursing Home. Graveside service was held on October 20, 2006 in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale with Minister Bill Whaley of Murray St. Church of Christ officiating.

Robert was born to Robert Ervin and Leita O. (Trawick) Jenkins on October 4,1945 in Rockdale, where he resided most of his life. He was a self-employed painter and a Vietnam veteran of the US Army. His parents precede him in death.

He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Ann Stevenson of Leander and Lisa Nell White of Pleasanton, brother, Thomas B. Jenkins of Taylor, half-brother, Burtis Wayne Loftin of Phoenix, AZ and his sister, Margie Defoor of Crawford. Four grandchildren also survive.

Bruno C. Greensage

October 21, 1929 – October 16, 2006

Bruno Greensage, 76, of Rockdale, died on October 16, 2006 in the Manor Oaks Nursing Home. He had been a resident of Rockdale for the past 43 years. Rev. Steve Bishop conducted the funeral service at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Bruno was born on October 21, 1926 in Marlin to Sam and Mary Stollcki Greensage. Bruno married Joyce Barber on December 2, 1956 in West Columbia, Texas. He worked in Yard Service at ALCOA for 29 years. His wife, Joyce, parents and sister, Louise Daulton precede him in death.

He is survived by his sons, Edwin Greensage and wife Sharon of Round Rock and Troy D. Greensage and wife Barbara of Florissant, MO; his daughters, Nancy Spiers and husband Joe of Rockdale, Judy Woolverton and husband Loy of Rockdale and Karyl Fist and husband Bo of Davilla; brothers, Herman Greensage of Bremond, Raymond Greensage of Bryan and Daniel Greensage of Greenville; his sisters, Willie Mae Wilganoski of Marlin and Pauline Socher of Noble, OK. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Kallie Williams, Michelle Greensage, Joseph Greensage, Winston Woolverton, Logan Woolverton, Try Greensage, Jennifer Folimer, Jessica Davis, Timothy Greensage, Lindsey Fisk and Jeffrey Fisk; 4 great grandchildren: Devren Williams, Peyton Pojar, MacKenzie Woolverton and Taylor DeNero.

Bruno was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict.

Walter Ernst Matthijetz

December 17, 1910 – October 17, 2006

Mr. Walter Matthijetz, 95, of Giddings, passed away on October 17, 2006 at the Giddings Healthcare Center. Funeral services were held on October 19, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner officiating. Burial was in the Giddings City Cemetery.

Walter was born on December 17, 1910 in Giddings to Herman and Selma Boettcher Matthijetz. He and Clara Moerbe were married on March 28, 1937 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin. He was a barber for many years and in his spare time, loved to play the fiddle and piano, dance, fish and work with his cattle. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served as an usher for many years. His wife, Clara preceded him in death on September 14, 2006. Also preceding him in death are his son, Walter, “Buddy” Matthijetz, Jr., daughter, Selma Marie Davis; 3 brothers, Herbert, Norbert (John) and Gilbert and 3 sisters, Louise Tate, Minnie Quade, and Loraine Brahm.

He is survived by his daughter, Nancy and Doug Alexander of Giddings, daughter-in-law, Janet Matthijetz of Austin, son-in-law, Terry Davis of Giddings; 6 grandchildren, Kristen and Kevin Finch of Salado, Karen and Shaun Martin of Hawley, Terri Lun and Tim Schmidt of Crawford, Steve and Elly Davis of Miami Lakes,FL, Candice Alexander of Giddings and Tara Alexander of Huntsville; brother, Elden (Judge) Matthijetz of Giddings; 2 sisters, Ella Moore of Round Rock and Eleanor Chupp of Austin.

Bonita Tucker

December 4, 1930 – October 19, 2006

Memorial services are pending for Mrs. Bonita Tucker, 75, who passed away at Renaissance Villa in Rockdale on October 19, 2006.

She was born in Brewster, KS on December 4, 1930 to Earl and Helen Hurlbut McBride. She married Robert H. Tucker on September 8, 1950 in Allandale, VA and worked as a clerk for the U.S. Civil Service.

Mrs. Tucker is survived by her husband, Robert of Marble Falls, sons, Jeffrey, Steven and Richard Tucker or San Antonio and Larry Tucker of Kingsland; sisters, Betty Howard of Kingsland, Judy Curless of Austin and Jane Caton of Port St. Luci, FL.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marble Falls.
