Nancy Lee “Granny” Augustine

June 22, 1936 – November 7, 2006

Nancy Lee Augustine, 70, of Giddings, died on November 7, 2006 at Seton Medical Center in Austin. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Scott Williams at first Assembly of God in Giddings on November 11, 2006.

Mrs. Augustine was born on June 22, 1936 in Perry County, TN to Robert Osby and Addie Doyle Chandler. She worked as a meat wrapper/boat cook for Ingram Barge in Paducah, KY. Her husband, Bernie Augustine preceded her in death.

She is survived by 3 children, Raymond and Kathy Augustine of Palmerton, PA, Suzanna (Haas) and Cotton Medack of Loebau and Joe and Susan Haas of Parson, TN; 7 grandchildren, Joseph and Erie Haas of TN, Feleasha and Danny Sherfy of Korea, Roy Haas and Becky Haas of Giddings, Gabriel Augustine and Stephanie Augustine of Palmerton, PA and Jeremy and Brandi Haas of Giddings.

Reubin O’Bier

October 23, 1922 – November 12, 2006

Reubin O’Bier, 84, died on November 12, 2006, in the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Giddings. The funeral will be on Saturday, November 18, 2006 in the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale at 10:00AM, followed by burial in the Forest Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 pm to 8pm Friday November 17, 2006 at the funeral home.

He was born on October 23, 1922 to George and Hattie Green O’Bier in Milam County and lived in Lexington for most of his life. He was a farmer. His parents, 3 sisters and 4 brothers preceded him in death.

He is survived by his half brother, Johnny O’Bier of Lexington and sister, Nora Hewer of Houston and a host of nieces and nephews.

A kind and generous man, Reubin enjoyed telling stories and had a great sense of humor.

Carl Emil Hohle

August 22, 1927 – November 9, 2006

Carl Hohle, 79, passed away on November 9, 2006 near Giddings. Rev. Robert Tiner conducted the funeral service on November 13, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings. Burial was in the Giddings City Cemetery.

Mr. Hohle was born on August 22, 1927 in Loebau, Texas to Emil and Emma Herzog Hohle. Carl retired from the US Air Force as a Technical Sergeant after serving for 22 years, and also worked as a custodian at Haltom City School District for several years. He had recently moved to Giddings after living in Ft. Worth for many years. He and Mary were married on May 27, 1960 in San Angelo, Texas. She preceded him in death, as did his daughter, Mary Francis Thomas.

He is survived by his sister, Gladys Strong of Giddings, son-in-law, Jimmy Thomas of Dallas, Granddaughter, Julie and Greg Chapman of Dallas and grandson, Robert and Sherry Thomas of Arizona.

Travis Marshall “Cowboy” Rodden

October 4, 1918 – November 9, 2006

Travis “Cowboy” Rodden, 88, of Milano died on November 9, 2006 at the Veterans Hospital in Temple. Graveside service was conducted by Rev. Dennis Maddox of Rockdale Pentecostal Church on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at Smyrna Cemetery near Milano.

Mr. Rodden was born in Valera, Texas on October 4, 1918 to Floyd and Maggie Mae Morrison Rodden. He was a pipeliner from 1947 until his retirement in 1983. On May 17, 1947, he married Wanda Mildred Thomason in Voss, Texas. His son, Floyd Marshall Rodden, parents and 2 sisters preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Milano, his son James Colt Rodden also of Milano, daughters, Wanda Valera Streicher of Midland and Troy Andra Rodden of Dallas; grandchildren, Michael Streicher, Kathleen Lehman, J. Jason Streicher, Amy Jean Howeth, Joshua Martin, and Jacob C. Rodden; great grandchildren, Erica Leigh Streicher, Christopher Howeth, Keegan Lehman and Anastasia Howeth.

He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Alaska during WWII. He was a member of the 4th Army Division that served as Honor Guard for Franklin D. Roosevelt form the “Little White House” to the train station. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Odessa.

Betty Nora Schautschick

August 20, 1937 – November 10, 2006

Betty Schautschick, 69, passed away at her home in Giddings on November 10, 2006. Rev. Robert Tiner conducted graveside services at Giddings City Cemetery.

Betty was born on August 20, 1937 to Alfred and Nora Zwernemann Pietsch in Greens Creek, Texas.

She married Delward Schautschick on June 29, 1958 at Greens Creek.

She is survived by her husband, Delward of Giddings, 2 daughters, Becky and Gilbert Proske and Sandra and Dale Tomanetz; 2 sons, Randy and Rocky Schautschick and granddaughter, Ashley Tomanetz all of Giddings.

Elmo H. Wilhite

November 1, 1927 – November 6, 2006

Elmo Wilhite, 79, passed away on November 6, 2006 at his home in Tanglewood. Rev. Geary McManus led a memorial service in celebration of Elmo’s life on Sunday, November 12, 2006 at Tanglewood Baptist Church.

Elmo was born to Lonnie D and Mamie (Johnson) Wilhite on November 1, 1927 in Lee County. With the exception of one year in Rockdale, he lived all his life in Lee County. On June 4, 1954, he married Ruth Ann Lindauer in Pasadena, Texas. After 33 years, he retired in 1985 as a Production Supervisor with Alcoa. His parents precede him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth Ann of Tanglewood, daughters, Virginia Ann Bostic and husband Dale and Deborah Kay Neidig and husband Terry all of McDade; brother, L.D. “Rusty” Wilhite of Rockdale and sisters, Bell Matlock of Rusk and Dorothy Crowder of West Olympia, WA. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Elmo was a member of Tanglewood Baptist Church and was formerly a member of First Baptist Church in Lexington for 45 years. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII; a member of American Legion Post #6 in Lexington. For more than 20 years, he was a member of The Gideons International and traveled with Texas Baptist Men for 18 years building churches around Texas and other states. He was also involved with mission work in Africa, Mexico and Brazil. He was involved in a jail ministry visiting the Youth Detention Center in Rockdale for the past 10 years. He loved gardening and taking care of his livestock.
