Richard E. Allen

April 9, 1929 – December 10, 2006

Richard E. Allen, 77, of Rockdale, died on December 10, 2006 in the Georgetown Hospital. Graveside services will be on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale with the Rockdale Masonic Lodge #414 conducting the service.

Richard was born in Rockdale on April 9, 1929 to Albert Sidney and Myrtle Ray (Wells) Allen. He worked for the Texas Highway Department as a Procurement Director for 35 years, retiring in 1988. He and Jacquelyn Abbott were married in Hearne on October 27, 1952. His wife, Jackie, parents and 12 brothers and sisters precede him in death.

He is survived by his son, Sid Allen and wife Beth of Georgetown, daughter, Tammy Schulz and husband Jeff of Brenham and 7 grandchildren.

He was a member of Rockdale Masonic Lodge #414 AF & AM. Memorials may be made to St. Johns United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 168, Rockdale, Texas 76567

Billie Jo “Granny” Smith

February 19, 1918 - December 6, 2006

Billie Jo “Granny” Smith, 88, of Rockdale died on December 6, 2006 at Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. Minister O.E. Davidson of Milam County Church of Christ and Minister Bill Whaley of Murray St. Church of Christ conducted funeral services on December 9, 2006 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Pallbearers were Les Hicks, Wesley Hicks, Steve Eledge, Scott Eledge, Anthony Kollman and Kerry Langehennig.

Mrs. Smith was born on February 19, 1918 in Portales, NM to Joseph St. Clair and Mary Delliah Barrington Smith. She and William Leslie Smith were married January 17, 1935 in Yuma, AS. She was a school nurse at Santa Fe School in Vista, CA and was a homemaker. Her husband, William, parents, daughter, Janica J. Eledge and sister, Sadie Itzaina preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, William Joe Smith and wife Kathy of Copperas Cove, daughter, Marilyn E. Hicks and husband Cecil of Rockdale; grandchildren: Les, Wesley and Sue of Rockdale, Steve of Huntsville, AR, Scott of Rogers, AR, April of Bennett, CO, Stefanie of Cheyenne, WY and Christine of Copperas Cove. She is also survived by 7 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; brother, Temple B. Smith of Vista, CA and sister, Charlsie E. Adrian of Vista, CA.

She was a member of Milam County Church of Christ near Rockdale and a member of the Ladies Bible Class. She enjoyed playing 42 Dominos, pretty flowers, having a summer garden, bird watching and she liked to sing. She was a member of the New Salem Demonstration Club.

William John “Billy” Fronek

May 9, 1945 - December 4, 2006

William J. Fronek, 61, died on December 4, 2006 at his home near the Lilac Community. A graveside service was conducted by Rev. Rodney B. Kruse on December 8, 2006 in the Lilac Cemetery near Sharp, Texas.

Billy was born in the Lilac Community on May 9, 1945 to Metodey Ciril and Cecelia (Dubec) Fronek. He was a farmer and also worked for Denio’s Furniture, Flooring and Fireplace near Cameron in flooring and interior finishing work. He and Sandra Lea Mueller were married on March 15, 1967 in Georgetown. His parents and a brother, Emil Fronek preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra of Lilac; son, Wilbur J. Fronek and wife Barbara of Jacksonville, NC; daughter, Janet L. Fronek and Derrick Ruzicka of Buckholts; brother, Henry Fronek of Houston; sisters: Georgia Cockrum of Temple, Betty Lamb also of Temple and Cecelia Hamm of Weiser, ID.

Billy was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Thorndale.

John Douglas Dunn, Sr.

August 4, 1941 – December 7, 2006

John D. Dunn, Sr., 65, passed away on December 7, 2006 at his home in Rockdale. The funeral service was at New Hope Baptist Church in Rockdale followed by burial in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale. Rev. Herman L. Nelson, Jr. officiated.

Mr. Dunn was born in Bryan on August 4, 1941 to Harvey and Jennie Watson Dunn. He worked at Alcoa. He married Rachel Harris in Bryan on November 30, 1963. She preceded him in death on November 15, 2006.

He is survived by his sons, John D. Dunn, Jr. of Rockdale, Allen K. Dunn, Sr. of Pflugerville and Fredrick Dunn of Elgin; his daughter, Regina Myers of Rockdale; brother, Arthur Lee Dunn and wife Toni of Humble; 5 sisters: Charlie Mae MaGruder and husband Walter of College Station, Billy Jean Baker and husband Roosevelt of Dallas, Ocie Nix and husband Clint of Bryan, Odell Jackson of Bryan and Jennie Mae Holman and husband Clarence of Houston. Fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

Serving as pallbearers were James H. Banks, Luther Johnson, Henry James Bradford, Fred Grayson, Albert McBride, and Ray Brown. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Myers, Allen K. Dunn, Allen K, Dunn, Jr., Arthur Lee Dunn, John D. Dunn, Jr., Fredrick Dunn and Oliver Horton.

Ruth Garza

November 9, 1929 – December 7, 2006

Ruth Garza, 77, of Rockdale, passed away on December 7, 2006 in the Renaissance Villa in Rockdale. Rev. Edwin Kagoo conducted the funeral service on December 11, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale. Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Rockdale. Pallbearers were Billy Goodman, Gabriel Goodman, Clayton Goodman, Michelle Stracener, Elizabeth Stracener and Terry Garza. Honorary pallbearers were Manuel Doud, Santos Gonzales, Ike Korenek, Lambert Skubal, Sr., Henry Castillo, John Garza and Cruz Garza.

Mrs. Garza was born on November 9, 1929 in Cameron to Leo and Frances (Nieto) Leyendecker. She lived in Rockdale all of her life. She married Gabriel R. Garza on October 5, 1947 in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, numerous brothers and sisters, parents, Leo and Frances Leyendecker and adoptive parents, her aunt and uncle, Galvino and Pauline Nieto.

She is survived by her husband, Gabriel Garza of Rockdale, sons: Ernest Garza and wife, Charlotte of Rockdale and Gene Garza of Rockdale; daughters: Melba Garza of Cedar Creek, Irene Garza and Kelly Meyer of Rockdale, Cathy Stracener and Howard Swift of Rockdale and Martha Garza of Austin; sisters, Mary Bustillo and Celia Castillo both of San Antonio; grandchildren: Billy E. Goodman, Gabriel A. Goodman, Clayton R. Goodman, Michelle E. Stracener, Elizabeth A. Stracener, Terry L. Garza, Emily F. Garza, Victoria E. Garza, Buck D. Garza and Pete Garza; great grandchildren: Alena Brooke, Kellie Goodman, Dillon Coy Goodman, Hannah Nicole Rodriguez, Gabriel Lee Goodman and Austin Edwin Goodman.

Ruth was a graduate of Rockdale High School. She worked at RISD for 19 years before she retired. She was active in St. Joseph Catholic Church Altar Society and taught English as a second language in Community Ed. She was active in the Rockdale 4-H with her children.

Memorials may be made to renaissance villa in Rockdale.

John Dietrich (J.D.) Jantzen

March 19, 1919 – December 6, 2006

J.D. Jantzen, 87, of Giddings, passed away on December 6, 2006 at Oakland Manor Nursing Center. Rev. Dale Bohm conducted the funeral service at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. Burial was in the Giddings City Cemetery. Pallbearers were James Brown, Olin Ehler, Anton Fischer, Harold Kutschke and Glenroy Ebner.

Mr. Jantzen was born in Paige on March 19, 1919 to William F. and Alma Zander Jantzen.

J. D. worked in the oilfield industry for many years as a seismograph operator before going to work at the University of Texas in Austin in the Maintenance Department.

He was united in marriage to Doris Gorden on February 12, 1954. After her death in 1975, he married Mrytle Ferrell Vahrenkamp in 1978.

His parents and his sister, Grace Harris also preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle, of Giddings, brother, Odell and Nora Jantzen and special friends, Glenroy and Waldine Ebner all of Giddings.

Those desiring to do so, may make memorial contributions to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Texas.

Paul M. Silva

November 5, 1928 – December 5, 2006

Paul M. Silva, 78, of Milano, died on December 5, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan. Funeral services were held at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale on December 8, 2006. Pastor Harvey Wampler of First Assembly of God in Rockdale and Pastor Tommy Thompson officiated. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Amos John Silva, James Zamora, Robert Garcia, Matthew Garcia, Paul David Silva and Ron Allen Briseno.

Mr. Silva was born on November 5, 1928 in Milano to Sidronio and Pauline (Moreno) Silva. He married Helen Cortez in Caldwell on March 25, 1955. He worked for International Shoe Co. in Bryan for 32 years and for 17 years in Maintenance for Hearne I.S.D. His parents and 2 brothers, Sidronio Silva, Jr. and Esekiel “Zeke” Silva preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of Milano; son, John David Silva and wife Mary Jane of Bryan; daughters, Elizabeth Zamora and husband Billy of Bryan, Linda Garcia and husband Joe of San Marcos, Lori Rueda and husband Joe of Bryan, Melanie Frailicks and husband Joey of Bryan; brothers, Frank Silva and wife Donna of Crown Point, IN, Ruben Silva and wife Angie of Milano and Robert Silva and wife Annie of Houston; sisters, Rachel Aguliar and husband Domingo of Rockdale, Theress Caywood of Rockdale and Alice Davila and husband Lonnie of Houston. He is survived, also by 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Mr. Silva served in the US Army as a Corporal. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Rockdale. He was a “jack-of-all-trades” and enjoyed camping, fishing and the outdoors.

GregoryMcKay Jeppesen

September 8, 1964 - December 2, 2006

Our kind and loving father, son, brother, friend died in a tragic accident near Ft. Worth, TX on Saturday, Dec 2, 2006. Greg was born Sept 8, 1964 in Brigham City to Gary N. Jeppesen and Margaret Ann Hawkes. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1983. Greg was a talented wood craftsman and mechanic. He loved hunting, fishing, motorcycles and especially Linda and his children Steven and Carli and dog Hunter.

Greg married Connie Zeller (Wolf), they had a son, Steven Gregory Jeppesen, they were later divorced. He married Gidget Chirgwin, they had a daughter Carli Elizabeth Jeppesen. They were later divorced.

Greg is survived by his fiancée Linda Williams, his son Steven, daughter Carli, father Gary N. (Marilynn) Jeppesen, mother Margaret H. (Dennis H.) Udy; sisters Jerilyn (Tom) Call, Melanie (Dan) Lawrence; brothers Brian (Susan) Jeppesen, G. Scott Jeppesen, and many nieces and nephews.

Greg was preceded in death by his grandparents Wallace & Ethel Jeppesen and Lawrence & Mabel Hawkes.

Services were held Sat, Dec 9, 2006 at 12:00p.m. at Perry 6th Ward, 2415 S. Park Drive, Perry, UT.

Dorothy “Dot” Rutland

February 9, 1935 – December 10, 2006

Dorothy “Dot” Rutland, 71, passed away on December 10, 2006 at her home in Lexington. Funeral services will be Wednesday December 13, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the Faith Temple Church in Lexington. Rev. Kenneth Mills will officiate. Burial will be in the Lexington Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jeremy Knippa, Jr., Eric Banks, Charlie Banks, David Fehrenkamp and Bobby Joe Sanders.

Dot was born in Lexington on February 9, 1935 to Lee Roy and Mary Brown Rutland. She was a nurse at Hennesey Nursing Home in Giddings. Her father, son, James Lee Foreman and granddaughter, Carrie Knippa preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Darrell Clare of Lexington, daughters, Barbie Fehrenkamp of Lexington and Sharon Cornelius of Rockdale, her mother, Mary Todd of Rockdale, brother Ed Rutland of Plum; grandchildren, Rebecca Fritcher, Eric Banks, Jeremy Knippa, Kaylie Clare, James Foreman, Jr. Dynel Foreman and Rosalynn Bates.


Dennis Wayne Wanoreck

March 21, 1958 – December 6, 2006

Dennis Wayne Wanoreck, 48, of Rockdale, died on December 6, 2006 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple. A graveside service was conducted by Rev. Calvin Springer on December 9 in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Dennis was born on March 21, 1958 in Rockdale to Ira “Sonny” and Barbara Faye (McDonald) Wanoreck. He was the manager of the Dollar Tree in Bryan, where he had worked for 6 ½ years. He was a 1976 graduate of Rockdale High School and attended St. Edwards University in Austin. He received his BA from Texas Tech in Lubbock. He is preceded in death by his grandparents.

He is survived by his parents, Ira “Sonny” and Barbara Wanoreck of Rockdale; step sons: Matt, Steve and Mike Slider of Huntsville; brother, Mike Wanoreck of Milano; sister, Missy Marshall and husband John of Magnolia; niece, Brandy Wanoreck of Magnolia; nephews: Jason Wanoreck and wife Amanda of Bryan and Sean Marshall of Magnolia; great nieces: Taylor Wanoreck of Round Rock, Tristen Wanoreck of Silver Springs, NY, Promise Oder of Magnolia; great nephew, Shaun Horner, Jr. of Magnolia.
