Obituaries for the Issue Week December 21, 2006

Ernest C. Leyendecker

January 30, 1928 – December 16, 2006

Ernest Leyendecker, 78, died on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at his home in Thorndale. Father Lonnie Urban of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylor officiated at the funeral service at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Rockdale. Pallbearers were Edward P. Leyendecker, Chris B. SanMigel, Chris Vasquez, Rehja R. Roman, Joe Michael Salinas, Terry Keck. Honorary pallbearers were Julio Vasquez and Patrick Leyendecker.

Mr. Leyendecker was born on January 30, 1928 at Milford, Texas to William and Janie (Cortez) Leyendecker. He was a life-long resident of Thorndale. He was a farmer and also worked many years and retired form the Thrall Co-Op, where he worked as a Ginner. He married Augustine M. Inocencio on August 20, 1945 in Cameron. He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Leyendecker, parents, and brothers Wilford and Odell Leyendecker.

Survivors are his wife, Augustina of Thorndale, sons Edward and Ernest Leyendecker, Jr. also of Thorndale and Rehja R. Roman and wife, Melanie of Burleson; daughters, Irene Keck and husband Terry of Burleson and Hazel Jean Vasquez of Burleson; brothers: William Leyendecker of Rockport, Rudolph Leyendecker of Thorndale and Otto Leyendecker of Bulls Head, AR; sisters: Lillian Lopez of Thorndale, Amelia Pontanja of Bryan, Janie Cano of San Angelo, Margaret Vega of Roscoe, Elvira Mata of Big Spring, Olivia Leyendecker of Thorndale and Helen Perry of Roscoe. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taylor and of the St. Joseph Cemetery Board. He was an avid baseball and wrestling fan.

L. R. Martin

August 4, 1971 – December 10, 2006

L.R. Martin, 35, of Forsyth, Georgia, died on December 10, 2006. A memorial service was held on December 16, 2006 at the Friendship Methodist Church near Davilla, Texas. Rev. Doug Springer of Rockdale officiated.

Mr. Martin was born in Rockdale on August 4, 1971 to Durwood and Denise Martin. He worked as a Boilermaker with a Power Plant for 5 years.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Knight of Forsyth, GA, parents, Jamie and Denise McQuary of Rockdale and Durwood Martin of Somerville; grandfather, Jack Thompson of Rockdale; step daughter, Nickey Johnson of Forsyth, GA and his sister, Megan McQuary of Rockdale.
