December 1, 1944 – January 31, 2007 Georgia Fay Beaver, 62, of Giddings died on January 31, 2007 at St. David’s Medical Center in Austin. Rev. Robert Tiner conducted the funeral service at the Giddings City Mausoleum on February 3, 2007. She was born on December 1, 1944 in Austin to George Frank and Winnie Bee Carter Speedy. She worked as a cook at Schubert’s Restaurant and Siegmund’s Restaurant in Giddings. Her parents and a son, Bobby Joe Robbins preceded her in death. Georgia is survived by 2 sons: Danny and Amy Robbins of Giddings and Tracy and Karen Robbins of Winchester; 4 grandsons: James, Ty and Chris Robbins of Giddings and Dylan Robbins of Winchester and her sister, Winifred (Winnie) Melton of Arlington. An account has been set up at Lee County Bank in Giddings to help defray medical and funeral expenses. February 4, 2007 Jarvis A. Johnson, 41, of Lexington died on Sunday, February 4, 2007. Services are pending with Tommy E. Taylor Funeral Home in La Grange, Texas. Full obituary will be printed in next week’s paper. November 11, 1941 – February 1, 2007 Marjorie Cowen, 65, of Rockdale passed away on February 1, 2007 at Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale. A memorial service was held at Forest Grove Christian Church on February 2, 2007. Rev. Mike Herrington conducted the funeral service on February 4, 2007 at the Freund Funeral Home in Cuero with burial in Hillside Cemetery in Cuero. Pallbearers were Roger Praesel, Gus Praesel, Justin Praesel, Mike Baker, Bob Dube,and Roy Franke, Jr.. Honorary Pallbearers were Clay Praesel, Adam Rocho and Gerald Davis. She was born on November 11, 1941 in Nixon, Texas to Frank Edward and Myrle Willyne (Neely) McKinney. She was a bookkeeper for Leske’s Motor Company of Cuero for many years, bookkeeper for Industrial Electric of Freer, a tax preparer for H & R Block and the Finance Director for the City of Cuero. Her husbands, John Edward Tumlinson and Donny Cowen, her father and brother, James William McKinney preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Arlon Dane Hester and wife Rhonda Kay of Euless, daughter, Rona Gem Locke of Georgetown; her mother, Myrle Stokes of Rockdale; sisters: Virginia Mae Praesel and husband A.G. of Rockdale and Francis Sue Gregory and husband B.J. of Brazoria; her children’s’ father and his wife, Winson Elvin Hester and Edith of Gonzales; grandchildren: Kyle Thomas Hester, Carly Jewel Hester and Travus Jonathan Noah Locke. Georgia grew up in Smiley where she went to school. She was valedictorian of her 1960 graduation. She played volleyball and basketball and was captain of the basketball team. She was a drummer with the Pep Squad and Miss Smiley High School Sweetheart and Class Favorite. August 4, 1943 – January 26, 2007 John Galban, 63, of Thorndale died on January 26, 2007 at the Manor Oaks Nursing Center in Rockdale. Father Gregory Hanks conducted the funeral service on January 29, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial was in the Taylor City Cemetery. He was born on August 4, 1943 to Frank and Josephine (Rivas) Galban. He was a lifelong resident of Thorndale and for many years worked as a mechanic in Austin. He then worked for Intercraft in Taylor for 13 years before retiring. He married Guadalupe Hernandez on October 12, 2002 in Granger, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother and sister, Annie Naranjo. He is survived by his wife, Guadalupe of Thorndale, step son, John Anthony Pachicano, Jr. and wife Helen of Round Rock, father, Frank Galban, Sr. of Thorndale; brothers: Frank Galban, Jr. and wife Julie of Austin, Victor Galban and wife Mary of Austin, Jesse Galban and wife Julie of Round Rock, Fred Galban and wife, Mary of Thorndale; sister, Margaret Hudson and husband Mike of Thorndale; 2 step grandchildren, Xavier and Judeith Anderson. April 5, 1943 – February 3, 2007 Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio for Sandra Faye Greathouse. She passed away on February 3, 2007 at her home in Lexington where she had resided for 18 years. She was 63. Richard Sanchez, Chaplain of Vista Care Hospice will officiate. Ms. Greathouse was born in Donaldsonville, LA on April 5, 1943 to Everett Himel and Theresa Marie Cavalier. She owned and operated a dog grooming business in California for 35 years. Her husband, William Edward Greathouse preceded her in death as did her parents, 2 brothers, Huey and Nicholas Himel and 2 sisters, Barbara Himel and Zoe Martinel. She is survived by her daughter, Tammie F. Greathouse of Waco, granddaughter, Tina Dominguez of Waco, great grandson Lou Dominguez; brother, Robert Himel of Donaldsonville, LA, and sisters: Marie Fulton Rush of Mount Ida AR, Elizabeth Blanchard of White Castle, LA and Janice Friedley of LA. April 11, 1921 – February 5, 2007 Lorine Jenke, 85, of Fedor passed away on February 5, 2007 in the Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale. Pastor Leif Hasskarl will conduct the funeral service on Thursday, February 8, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Mrs. Jenke was born on April 11, 1921 in Fedor to Willie and Martha (Jatzlau) Becker. She remained a life long resident of Fedor. She and Albert O. Jenke were married on July 14, 1946 in Fedor. They owned and operated a general store in Fedor, then the City Meat Market in Lexington. She was a custodian with the Lexington High School from 1978 to 1995. She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert, brother, Clarence Becker and an infant brother and her great granddaughter, Shawna Gray. She is survived by her son, Billy Jenke and wife Margie of Santa Fe, Texas; daughters: Judy Brown and husband John of Rockdale and Jane Gray and husband Michael of Houston; grandchildren: Scott Jenke, Stacey Ryza and husband Jason, Jason Brown and wife Shannon, Justin Brown, Jordan Brown, Shea Gray and wife Sydnee, Casey Gray. Corey Gray, Lindsey Gray and Lauren Gray; great grandchildren: Faith and Austin Brown and Tyler Brown, Mariah and Israel Gray, Kiley Ryza and Makayla Ryza; step grandchildren: Angel Tunstall and husband Greg; step great grandchildren: Kaitlin, Marissa and Connor Tunstall; step niece and nephew, Terri and Ken Stewart; step great niece: Ashley; step great nephew: K.C. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor and the Ladies Aid, a member of Texas German Society in the Lee County Chapter and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Lexington. October 31, 1924 – January 31, 2007 Florence McDaniel, 82, died on January 31, 2007 in the Central Texas Hospital in Cameron. She was a resident of Rockdale for over 40 years. She was born on October 31, 1924 in Cape Fear, North Carolina to Olie and Annie (Sauls) Holt. She married Glenn McDaniel on April 14, 1994 in Cameron. Her husband, Glenn, sister, Ann Backhaus and brother, Clyde Holt preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, April King of Rockdale; step daughters: Glenda Marrett of Austin and Shawn Williams of Taylor; step sons: Gary Dale McDaniel of San Gabriel, Allen McDaniel of Taylor and David McDaniel of Pflugerville and her brother, Otis Holt of North Carolina. February 15, 1902 – January 28, 2007 Overton Smith of Rockdale died on January 28, 2007 in the Manor Oaks Nursing Center in Rockdale. He was 104 years of age. Rev. Winfred Tyler conducted the funeral service on February 3 at New Hope Baptist Church in Rockdale. Burial was in the New Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale. Pallbearers were Melvin Clark, Kim Locklin, Ray Locklin, Kerry Locklin, Anthony Williams, and Loren Williams. Mr. Smith was born in the Sandy Creek Community in Burleson County on February 15, 1902 to Jim and Elizabeth (Morris) Smith. He and Laura Allen were married in the early 1930’s. He was a carpenter and farmer. His wife, Laura, 2 children, Freddie Norris Clark and Bennie Lee Smith, 1 sister and 1 brother preceded him in death. Surviving him are his son, Overton Smith of Los Angeles, CA, step son, Robert Earl Henderson of Dallas; 3 daughters: Bette Williams of Rockdale, Laura Locklin of Salty Community and Mary Huggins of Rockdale; step daughter, Ruby Nell Johnson of Dallas. Seventeen grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren also survive. He united with New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and throughout his lifetime, he served as Deacon, Treasurer and Bell Ringer until his health failed. He was a great supporter of all Aycock High School activities, and served many years as treasurer of the Aycock Parent Teacher Association and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was also famous as a carpenter was a and successful farmer and was especially known for growing huge sweet potatoes. June 30, 1946 – January 30, 2007 Patsy Rowland, 60, of Rockdale passed away on January 30, 2007 at Christus St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Beaumont. Graveside Services were held at the Lexington Cemetery on Friday February 2, 2007 with Rev. Gregory Nichols officiating. Patsy was born in Cameron on June 30, 1946 to Robert Ray Rowland, Sr. and Myrtle M (White) Rowland. Her parents, daughter, Kimberly Brinkman and her brother, Robert Ray Rowland, Jr. preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons: Scott Brinkman and wife Kimberly of Rockdale, Brian Brinkman and Christopher Barrow both of Buna, Texas; grandchildren: Jordyn, Xavier, Hailey, Alyssa, Bridgett, Madalynne, Brandon and Cade Brinkman; sister, Sherrie Murphy of Beaumont. September 27, 1917 – January 29, 2007 Florine Sorenson, 89 passed away on January 29, 2007 at Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. Rev. Doug Springer conducted the graveside service on Friday, February 2, 2007 at the Mesquite Cemetery near Lexington. Pallbearers were Darwin Avrett, Robert Avrett, Randall Bownds, Billy Bownds, Bill Avrett and Willis Brewer. Mrs. Sorenson was born in Milam County on September 27, 1917 to Ralph and Claudia (Bownds) Avrett. She married Loyd C. Sorenson on March 23, 1944 in Cameron. Her husband, parents, 4 brothers: Marshall, Howard, Floyd and William Doyle Avrett and 2 sisters: Maline Caraway and Annie Avrett preceded her in death. She is survived by 3 nephews: Darwin Avrett of Milano, Robert Avrett of Cordele, GA and Billy Bownds of Lexington; 3 nieces: Diane Caraway Trevino of Rockdale, Jean Bownds of Lexington and Marilyn Finger of Cedar Hill and a sister-in-law, Iola Avrett of Rockdale. November 2, 1919 – February 1, 2007 Mrs. Margaret Aline Stephens, 87, of Rockdale died on February 1, 2007 at Richards Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were conducted by Min. Russell Briley of Kenedy Church of Christ and Elder Gary Jackson of Murray St. Church of Christ at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Serving as pallbearers were Bryant Heintze, Scott Heintze, John Towery, Trent Towery, Ed Malkey and Gary Daniell. Her great grandsons were honorary pallbearers. Mrs. Stephens was born in Rosebud on November 2, 1919. Her parents were Frank and Alice (Watson) Edelmon. She and George H. Stephens were married on March 6, 1937. Her husband, parents, 2 brothers: Louie and Terry Edelmon and 3 sisters: Jewell Whiteley, Marie Boyd and Nina Tuma preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters: Gloria Ann Heintze and husband Paul of Rockdale, Betty Holton of Rockdale and Anna Lou Towery and husband Tregg of Waco; grandchildren: Bryant Heintze, Shelly Sanders, Scott Heintze, Tina Brack, Selina Daniell, Ed Malkey, Tammy Dulock, Trent Towery, Tracy Tynes, John Towery and Teri Pharr. She was a member of Murray Street Church of Christ in Rockdale and enjoyed quilting, sewing and painting. |
