January 2, 1941 – February 8, 2007 Gene Comeaux, 66, of Rockdale died on February 8, 2007 in Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. Funeral services were held at Phillips & Luckey Funeral home in Rockdale followed by burial in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Pastor Gunar Gerthe of Family Life Center officiated. Pallbearers were Nathan Starr, Charles Starr, Kevin Starr, Darrell Mynar, Michael Clement and Micah Hall. Honorary pallbearers were Bennie Ray Starr, Michael Starr, Curley LaComb, Robert LaComb and Marlon Craft. Mr. Comeaux was born in Evangeline, Louisiana on January 2, 1941 to Willie and Opal (Ravey) Comeaux. He was self-employed as a painter and carpenter between working in the oilfields, where he worked mainly as a foundation drilling rig operator for Sollay Drilling Company. He was married to Virginia Starr in Hathaway, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his son, Roger Comeaux, parents, brothers: Wilford and Cleo Comeaux and sisters: Vinus Croft and Beaulah Coswell. He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Rockdale; daughters: Pam Stein of Lake Charles, LA, Phelina Clement of Jennings, LA, Cindy Savant of Kinder, LA, Sandra Haydel of Jennings, LA, Rhonda Hall of Lake Charles, LA, Melody and Monica Comeaux of Bryan and Calinda Comeaux of Rockdale; stepson, Darrell Mynar of Rockdale; sisters: Shirley Graham, Mame Duhon and Edna Comeaux all of Jennings, LA. Sixteen grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren also survive. February 4, 1929 – February 9, 2007 Milton Davis, Sr., 78, died on February 9, 2007 at his home in Giddings. The family will hold a private memorial. Mr. Davis was born on February 4, 1929 in Forestburg, Texas to Alton and Emma Van Horn Davis. He and Jane Roeder were married on July 28, 1948 in Kilgore, Texas. He was self-employed in the oil industry. His parents and a brother, Gordon Van Davis preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Jane of Giddings, son, Milton Davis, Jr. and wife Connie of Elkhart, 2 grandchildren: Britt and Kristen Davis of Alvin and Brad Davis of Giddings; 3 great grandchildren: Grant Davis, Matthew Lukens, and Madison Lukens; sister, Reba Cochran of Colorado; nephew, Scott Cochran of Colorado; niece, Sharon Gwaitney and husband Paul of Spring and great niece, Emma Cochran of Colorado. August 28, 1932 – February 10, 2007 Martha Courtney, 74, of Lexington passed away on Saturday, February 10 in the Scott and White Hospital in Temple. Rev. Linda O’Neal and Rev. Ron Liles will conduct the funeral service on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at the Lexington United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Burns Cemetery in Blue. Mrs. Courtney was born in Lufkin on August 28, 1932 to Rudolph and Mattie (Stone) Childress. She married A.E. “Buddy” Courtney on November 23, 1955 in Lufkin. She was an educator and principal in the Silsbee area until her retirement. She and Buddy moved to Lexington six years ago. Buddy preceded her in death on January 31, 2003. Her parents and sister, Yvonne Childress also preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Alan Courtney and wife Lori of Keller, Texas; daughter, Cindy Jackson and husband Joe of Lexington; brother, Kenneth Childress and wife Ann of Lufkin; grandchildren: Courtney Jackson of Lexington, Marcy Heine and husband John of Blue and Tammie Creek and husband Allen of Dime Box; great grandchildren: McKenzie and Kayden Heine and Madison Creek. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was a member of the Lexington United Methodist Church, Lexington UMW, Lexington Lions Club, Lexington Chamber of Commerce Director, former member of Economic Development Board of Silsbee and Board of Directors of Silsbee Country Club. She was a graduate of Lufkin High School in 1949, and received her Masters of Education from Stephen F. Austin. She taught middle school literature and typing, was Assistant Principal at Silsbee High School, Kindergarten Principal at Robinson Elementary in Silsbee at her retirement. November 15, 1965 – February 4, 2007 Jarvis Johnson, 41, of Lexington died on February 4, 2007 in Lexington. The funeral service was conducted at The Bateman Center in Giddings on Sunday, February 11, 2007 with Prophet Vernon D. Heslep officiating. Burial was in the Leo Cemetery near Lexington. Jarvis was born in Bryan on November 15, 1965 to Oliver Belton Johnson and Hazel (Hollie) Johnson. He was a 1984 graduate of Lexington High School and worked as a lineman. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, 1 brother, 1 nephew and 1 niece. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Morgan) Johnson, parents; daughters: Carissa Johnson of San Marcos and Jericka Johnson of San Antonio; sons: Christopher Johnson of Lincoln, Billy Turner of Halstom City, and Jason Johnson of Tomball; sisters: Bridgette and Miriam Johnson both of Round Rock, Shelia Johnson of Bryan, Wanda Simms of Garland; brothers: Samuel Johnson of Austin, Terrence and wife Kalissa Johnson of Hutto, Oliver J. and wife Ursula Johnson, III of Minneapolis, MN; Larry Johnson of Bryan and Earl and wife Christena Johnson of Bryan and sister-in-law, Brenda Johnson of Bryan. June 4, 1923 - February 5, 2007 Milton A. Kunkel, 83, of Lincoln, died on February 5, 2007 in Luling. The funeral service was held at Christ Lutheran Church in Loebau with Rev. Paul Hartfield officiating. Burial was in the Giddings City Cemetery. Mr. Kunkel was born on June 4, 1923 in Paige to Alvin and Ella (Fischer) Kunkel. He and Annie Mae Kunkel were married on October 15, 1950. He was a convenience store owner. His wife and parents preceded him in death. Surviving family members are his sons: Calvin and Steven Kunkel, both of Loebau; daughters: Mary Iselt and husband Calvin of Houston and Susan Tucker of Alvin; sisters: Ruth Gloyna and Edna Ogrodney, both of Austin. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. November 12, 1932 – February 11, 2007 Alice Gibson, 74, of Rockdale, died on February 11, 2007 in the Scott & White Hospital in Temple. Rev. Dennis Maddox of First United Pentecostal in Rockdale will conduct the funeral service on February 15, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial will be in the Lilac Cemetery in the Lilac Community. Pallbearers are Thomas McAdoo, Sr., Curtis McAdoo, III, Keith Gibson, Brian Gibson, DeWayne Gibson, Randy Mayfield and Roy Mayfield, Jr. Mrs. Gibson was born on November 12, 1932 in San Gabriel, Texas to Jewel Marie and Belba Frances (Sanders) Wilson. On May 20, 1949, she married Greer Gibson in Glen Rose, Texas. Greer preceded her in death on May 21, 2006. Her parents, 2 sisters: Frances Davis and Dorothy Loupe and her brother, Frank Wilson also preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons: Daniel O. Gibson and wife Sheila of Woodville, William Gibson and wife Tammie of Orange and Orie R. Gibson of Rockdale; daughters: Clemmie M. Bratcher and husband Bruce of Rockdale, Japohni G. Gibson of Rockdale and Judith D. Mayfield and husband Roy of Rockdale. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in the Mt. Zion Community. She enjoyed playing bingo, working crosswords, crocheting and baking teacakes. October 5, 1914 - February 5, 2007 Meta Kissman, 92, of Brenham, passed away on February 5, 2007 at Trinity Medical Center. Rev. Dale Bohm conducted the funeral service on February 7, 2007 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Burial was in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tom O’Brien, Michael Cuda, Alan Schimank, Calvin Schimank, Leroy Frosch and Lynn Mobley. Mrs. Kissman was born in Fedor on October 5, 1914 to Herman and Pauline (Melde) Zschech. She was married to Louis E. Kissman on July 3, 1938 in Fedor. She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for over 18 years. She was an avid stamp collector who enjoyed traveling and watching sports. She and her husband owned and operated Kissman Tractor & Pump Company in Giddings for many years. She is survived by 2 children: H.A. (Butch) and Phyllis Kissman of Houston and Lois and Rev. Ben Rathgeber of Cleburne; 3 grandchildren: Susan and Michael Cuda of Arlington, Matthew Rathgeber of Pretoria, South Africa and Angela and Tom O’Brien of Round Rock; 5 great grandchildren: Grace and Thomas Cuda of Arlington and Daniel, Jordan and Rachel O’Brien of Round Rock. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 4 brothers (including her twin brother, Alfred) and 4 sisters. August 21, 1929 – February 10, 2007 Mildred Urban, 77, of Lincoln passed away on February 10, 2007 at Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings. Rev. Dale Bohm conducted the funeral service on February 13, 2007 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Burial was in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Mrs. Urban was born on August 21, 1929 in Lincoln to Louis and Emma Boes Weiser. She married Franklin Urban on October 2, 1949 and was a homemaker. Her husband, parents, brother, Martin Weiser, sister, Edna Weiser and brother-in-law, Woodrow Urban preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons: Floyd Urban and wife, Sharon of Lincoln and Kenneth Urban and wife, Denise of Giddings; brother, Calvin Weiser of Fredricksburg; sisters: Alleen Wagner and husband Calvin of Lincoln and Bernice Frosch and husband, Clifton also of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Olivia Weiser of Lincoln; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George Dunk and wife Eunice of Giddings; granchildren: Brittany Urban and fiancé Lee Davis, Megan and Christopher Lewis, Shane Urban and fiancée Julianne Britain, Christopher and Sara Urban and Dena Urban; great grandchildren: Arial Urban and Kaleigh Davis. Sanders, 89, of Rockdale died on February 11, 2007 in the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. The funeral service will be on February 14, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. in the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial will be in the I.O.O. F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Rev. Jack Chelf of First Baptist Church in Rockdale will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Holley, Brent Lampard, Kevin Cox, Whitney Cox, Monty West, Matthew Sanders, Joseph Sanders and Brad Young. Mr. Sanders was born in Mangum, Oklahoma on April 11, 1927 to Homer C. and Lola (Forsyth) Sanders. He was a farmer. He married Lou Ella Webb on October 15, 1938 in Wellington, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Maude Baker and Emma Olson and brother, Reece Sanders. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lou Ella Sanders of Rockdale; sons: Raymond Sanders and wife Jennifer of Dallas, Richard Sanders and wife Kathy of Athens and Allen Sanders and wife Shelly of Rockdale; daughters: Katherine Bigger of Dallas, Mary Lou Turnipseed and husband Richard of Arkansas City, Kansas, Betty Jo West and husband Mack Hopkins of Frisco, Texas, Jo Nell Nelson and husband Raymond of Camp Wood, Texas, Janey Reynolds of Arkansas City, Kansas and Tammie Young of Rockdale; sister, Mildred Richards of Amarillo. February 28, 1950 - February 5, 2007 Delores Ann Vavra, 56, of Schulenberg, passed away on February 5, 2007 at Colorado Fayette Medical Center in Weimer. Graveside services were conducted by Rev. Leif Hasskarl at St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Lexington. Delores was born in Giddings on February 28, 1950 to Emil Quince and Norma Mutschink Vavra. Her father and grandparents, Adolph and Milinda Mutschink preceded her in death. She is survived by her mother Norma Vavra of Luling and several cousins and other relatives. February 3, 1930 - February 5, 2007 Duane T. Vincent, 77, died on February 5, 2007 in the MD Anderson Hospital in Houston. Funeral services were held on February 9, 2007 in the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Pallbearers were Dean Vincent, Tony Vincent, Patrick Connor, Blair Franklin, Scott Franklin, Dave Parish, and Kennard Morton. Honorary pallbearers were Sam Perry, L.B. Kubiak, and Logan Kubiak. Mr. Vincent was born on February 3, 1930 in Gordon, Wisconsin to Emory Arnold and Laverne (Wilkinson) Vincent. From 1958 until his retirement in 2004, he was an educator and coach in Rockdale ISD, Hutto ISD, San Saba ISD and Wrangell, AK ISD. He was also a part time commercial fisherman. He and Polly Perry were married on May 13, 1989 in Dallas. His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Polly of Cedar Park; daughters: Randi Jean Vincent Parish and husband Dave of Corpus Christi, Vicki Lynn Vincent Morton and husband Kennard of Rockdale, Lori Dawn Vincent of Plano and Joni Sue Vincent Stone and husband Duane of Glenallen, AK; son, Dane Thomas Vincent of Wrangell, AK; step sons: Stephen Blair Franklin and wife Kelly of Plano and Gregory Scott Franklin of Austin; brothers: Robert Vincent and wife Mary Beth of Ketchikan, AK and Donald E. Vincent of Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Sam R. Perry and wife Shirley Bird Perry and sister-in-law, Jenny Perry Kubiak and husband, L.B. of Rockdale. Nineteen grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren also survive. Mr. Vincent received his Masters Degree in Education from SWTSC in San Marcos in 1958 with Mid-Management certification in 1975. He served in the Korean Conflict in the US Army from 1952 - 1954. His basic training was at Ft. Richardson in Alaska. He was a Scout Corporal and named by Armed Forces to be a member of Honorary All Alaska All Star First Team. He was a member of Riverbend Church in Austin, treasurer of the Hills Senior Activity Center in Cedar Park and a Recognized Alumnus of SWTSC for Performance in Basketball.
