Amanda Alma Beisert

March 2, 1907 - February 19, 2007

Mrs. Amanda Beisert passed away on February 19, 2007 in St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange, just 11 days before her 100th birthday. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Robert Tiner and Rev. John Davis at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings on February 22, 2007. Burial was in the Giddings City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Daniel Winkler, Wayne Rackel, Oscar Beisert, Jr., Steven Rackel, Joshua Knight, Kenneth Fischer and Robert Kuehn.

Mrs. Biesert was born on March 2, 1907 in Dime Box to Adolph and Lydia Czimskey Kasper. On January 12, 1926, she married Oscar H. Beisert in Loebau. She was preceded in death by her husband, 4 sons-in-law: James Knight, Lawrence Rackel, Erwin Winkler and Bill Rackel; 4 brothers: Charlie, Paul, Herbert and Clarence Kasper; 4 sisters: Helen Kasper, Clara Beisert, Hermine Moerbe and Beatrice Whitsel; 2 great grandchildren.

She is survived by 7 children: Marvin and Betty Beisert of Cypress, Bernice Winkler, Florine Rackel and Jessie Knight all of Giddings, Shirley and Raymond Ascher and Joyce and Robert Kuehn also of Giddings. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 20 great great grandchildren; sister, Dora Reuther of Giddings and sister-in-law, Lois Kasper of Austin; also numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Beisert was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aid. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting and her weekly Saturday morning breakfasts with her family.

Margie O. Eiland

April 24, 1918 – February 21, 2007

Margie O. Eiland, 88, of Channelview, Texas, died on February 21, 2007 at the Odyssey House in The Woodlands, Texas. The funeral service was held at the Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale on February 24, 2007. Interment followed in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Rev. Wes Hershberger of Calvary Church of the Nazarene and Rev. Troy Smith officiated. Pallbearers were Bobby Bowdoin, Rusty Bowdoin, David Eiland, Jeff Eiland, David Beckham and Keith Liggett. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Karen Martin, Damon Martin and John Frasier.

Mrs. Eiland was born in the New Salem Community in Milam County on April 24, 1918. Her parents were Theodore W. and Eva Lee (Sawyer) Whitley. She married Emmett Eiland on September 22, 1935 in Rockdale. She worked for 20 years as the cafeteria supervisor for the Channelview I.S.D. Her husband, Emmett, infant son, James W. Eiland, parents, sister, Claudene Stephens, brother, Norris Whitley and a great-grandson, Wesley Liggett preceded her in death.

Surviving family includes her son, Gerald Eiland and wife Evelyn of Hearne, daughters: Eva Bowdoin and husband J.L. of Channelview, Barbara Dodson and husband David of Huffman and Patricia Bass and husband Donald of The Woodlands, adopted son, Stephen Ozvoldike and wife Francisca of Tuckerton, NJ; sisters: Maudell Eiland of Humble and Bonnie Steurmer of Humble. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

She was a member of the Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Houston.

Winnie A. Key

May 10, 1923 – February 25, 2007

Winnie Key, 83, of Willis, Texas passed away on February 25, 2007 in the Conroe Regional Medical Center in Conroe, Texas. Rev. Doug Springer of the Rockdale Full Gospel Church will conduct the funeral service at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 28, 2007. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Serving as pallbearers are Glenn Mauldin, Billy Joe Avery, Stephen Howell, Robert Howell and Doug Perkins.

Mrs. Key was born on May 10 1923 to Joseph and Beaulah (Wilkinson) Pernitza. She was the owner/operator of Winnie’s Alterations. Before her business, she self-employed with several stores in the Conroe area doing alterations. She married Porter Key in Porter, Texas on October 16, 1971. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Barker in 1968, her parents, sisters: Elizabeth Tuma and Oleta Pernitza; brothers: Hardin and Harrell Pernitza and granddaughter, Kellie Perkins Mears.

She is survived by her husband, Porter Key of Willis, daughters: Betty Jo Perkins of Porter, Janice Avery and husband Billy of Onalaska, and Carolyn Howell of Lewisville. Six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren also survive.

Alice Helen Stork Mueller

February 7, 1921

Alice Helen Stork Mueller was born February 7, 1921 at Globe Hill, Texas to Will G. and Annie Bage Stork. She spent her early years in Ledbetter,Texas.

On May 4, 1944 Alice married Delfeal E. Mueller of Burton, Texas, in Avon Park, Florida while Delfeal was stationed there serving in the U. S. Air Force. He was transferred to San Diego, California before being deployed to the Phillippines. During this time, Alice moved to Giddings and was employed by the telephone company. Delfeal and Alice were reunited in 1946 making their home in Giddings and managed the Giddings Texaco Station for 30 years. They shared a love for farming and ranching, which Alice diligently continued after Delfeal’s death in 1982. In addition to being a dedicated homemaker, she worked at Bage’s Grocery, Lee Memorial Hospital, and the Lee County Elections.

Alice was an active member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, the Giddings American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of Hermann, and the Lee County German Society and volunteered with Rejuvenation.

Alice is survived by her son Allen, daughter-in-law Suzanne, grandchildren Kevin of Austin, Mark and Stacy of Pflugerville, Kara and fiancé Nathan Mendosa of Giddings, great-grandchildren Hudson and Julia of Pflugerville; daughter Vicki, husband Larry Boriack of Round Rock, grandchildren Jenna, Jeisson, and Cristian also of Round Rock; sisters Bernice Stork Mueller of Carmine, sister Erna Stork Els of Ledbetter, sister-in-law and husband Ardell and Nadine Mueller Muske of Brenham and sister-in-law, Virginia Stork of Brenham, nieces, nephews and many friends in Lee County and Parson’s House of Austin.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother Bill Stork; and two brothers-in-law; Elwood Mueller & Frank Els.

Alice was known for her positive outlook and friendliness to all. She never missed an opportunity to spread her cheerful spirit and conversation to those around her. Early in life Alice learned the value of determination and perseverance which she exhibited even in spite of her physical challenges in her final days. Her faith and trust in the Lord was evident in all she did. She loved her weekly domino playing with special friends in Giddings which continued with her new friends at Parson’s House Retirement Center in Austin to where she moved in March of 2005. She will be sorely missed by those who looked forward to her cheerful smile.

Pallbearers : Gary Mueller, Gaylon Mueller, Brandon Mueller, Cliff Mueller, Bradley Muske, Cody Muske Honorary pallbearers: Paul Spitzenberger & Hudson John Mueller.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 25th at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings, Texas, with Rev. Ed Schwanke and Rev. Al Hoerig officiating.

Ruth Bertha Schurmeier

October 5, 1919 – February 24, 2007

Ruth Schurmeier, 87, passed away on February 24, 2007 at her home in Giddings. Funeral services were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings on February 26, 2007. Burial was in the Giddings City Cemetery. Rev. Wilbern Michalk and Rev. Robert Tiner officiated. Pallbearers were Sam Preuss, Sloan Preuss, Blake Godbey, Travis Britton, Calvin Sears and Aaron Tatum.

Mrs. Schurmeier was born in Lincoln on October 5, 1919 to F. E. and Ida (Sander) Schkade. She married Gustave Benjamin. Schurmeier on January 16, 1971 in Austin. Preceding her in death were her parents, infant daughter, Loraine Margaret Preuss; brothers, Edmund, Albert and Clarence Schkade and sister, Margaret Tate.

She is survived by her husband, Ben, of Serbin; children: L. M. “Buddy” Preuss III & Wife Louise of Giddings, Ronna Dee Britton and husband James of Giddings and Karen Bryant of Los Angeles, CA; Grandchildren: Rita and Dr. Jerry Hudson of Austin, Amber Preuss of Giddings, Sam Preuss and Fiancée Dawn Weatherford of Dime Box, Sloan and Matt Preuss of Giddings, Lisa Dickey and husband Tim of Birmingham, LA, Tanya Godbey and husband Blake of Leander, Travis Britton and wife Jodi of Smithville, Kari Jones and husband Wally of Houston, Byron Burns of Austin and Tracy Burns of Los Angeles; great grandchildren: Brett Denkler of Austin, Vivian Preuss of Pflugerville, Cody Weatherford of Dime Box, Blake, Britton, and Ashley Dickey of Birmingham, AL, Calvin, Lauren, and Brian Sears of Leander, Brooke Godbey of Wichita, KS, Austin Tatum of Houston, Aaron Tatum of Smithville, Megan and Brandon Britton of Smithville, Ryan and Aidan Jones of Houston and Mia Oliver of Los Angeles; sister-in-law Elue Schkade of Giddings and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Denzil Harper Sanders

March 28, 1925 – February 25, 2007

Denzil Sanders, 81, passed away on February 25, 2007 at his home in Giddings. Pastor Jarrid Younkin conducted the funeral service at Phillips & Luckey Chapel in Giddings on February 27, 2007. Burial was in the Floyd County Memorial Park in Floydada, Texas.

Mr. Sanders was born in Littlefield, Texas on March 28, 1925 to Harman and Virgie Sanders. He and Peggy Jane Meacham were married on March 21, 1977 in Vernon, Texas. He was a WWII veteran and worked as a supervisor in the oilfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 1 sister, Marcella Sanders.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy of Giddings, sons: Greg Sanders of Australia, Sonny and Roxanne Sanders of California, Brad and Rosa Sanders of Colorado, Jimmy B. and Cyndi James of Oklahoma, Terry B. and Connie James of Cleveland, TX, and Jody B. and Jacque James of Crosbyton, TX; daughter, Jamie K and Don Bradford of Giddings; grandchildren: Bron Sanders of California, Brother Sanders, of Colorado, Patsy Sanders, of California, Cherity Fortna of Oklahoma, Hope and Jason of Littlefield, Oklahoma, Dax and Rhonda James of Columbus, Garrett and Linda James of Bastrop, Misty and Jason Touche of La Grange, Johnathan and Cara James of Crosbyton, Jacob James of Crosbyton, Bowdy and Sharon Bradford of Giddings, Beau and Chris Bradford of Giddings and 14 great grandchildren; brother, Virgil Sanders of California and sister, Bobby and Oscar Jones of Marble Falls. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Dr. M.D. McWilliams, Sr.

December 1, 1932 – February 22, 2007

Dr. M.D. McWilliams, Sr, 74, died on February 22, 2007 at the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. Rev. Carl Hudson of Meadowbrook Baptist Church conducted graveside services on February 25, 2007 at the Salty Cemetery.

Dr. McWilliams was born on December 1, 1932 in Menard, Texas to Alex Irby and Pearl (Menzies) McWilliams. He married Sidney Elaine Espy on July 17, 1956 in Brady. He was preceded in death by his brother, A. J. McWilliams, sister, Mary Pearl Faver and his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Sidney of Rockdale, sons: Menzies D. McWilliams, Jr. and wife Denise of Las Cruces, NM, Calvin J. McWilliams of Garland and Irby McWilliams and wife Rebecca of Thorndale; grandchildren: Taylor, Cellie and Cheyenne.

He graduated from Texas A&M in 1955, then veterinary school in 1957. After graduation, he worked for the Federal Government testing cattle for TB. He then moved to Brady where he started ranching for over 20 years. He moved to Melvin where he farmed and did custom hay bailing.

He was very active in the McCulloch County 4-H and was honored with the State 4-H Leadership Award. He served on the school board in Brady for 8 years and the water board in McCulloch County.

Beulah Mae Whited

August 24, 1929 - February 19, 2007

Beulah Mae Whited, 77, passed away on February 19, 2007 at her residence in Elgin. The graveside service was held on February 22, 2007 at the Giddings City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Turman, Robert Whited, Ronald Schatte, Tommy Pounders, Lee Whited, and Luke Schatte.

Mrs. Whited was born in Vian, Oklahoma on August 14, 1929 to Henry and Lucy Mae Holman. She and James Monroe Whited were married on September 6, 1946. She worked as a home health aid. Her husband, parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sons: Jimmy and wife Donna Whited of Rockdale, Bobby and wife Doris Whited of Elgin, Fred and wife Dee Whited of Austin, David Whited of Austin, Tommy and wife Brenda Whited of Bastrop and Tony and wife Debra Whited also of Bastrop; daughters: Lisa and husband Ken Schatte of Giddings and Denise Whited of Elgin; grandchildren: Jimmy Whited, Scott and Brandy Whited, James Turman, Michael and April Turman, Susie and Tommie Pounders, Melissa and Adam Shipp, Tiffany Whited, Dorie and Hugh Gray, Robert and Christina Whited, Lee Whited, Sean Russey Whited, Denny Whited, Jeffery Whited, Nicky Whited, Tasha and Travis Duval, Jamie Whited, Christopher Whited, Amber Whited, Audrey Whited, Tonya Whited, Noah Whited, Chasity and Brian McMillan, Jennifer and Keith Glona, Ronnie and Quinn Schatte, Kacie Schatte, and Luke Schatte; 30 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Hogan of San Antonio; sisters-in-law: Ida Holman of Bixby, OK and Edna Holman of Salisaw, OK.
