Renata Ruby Fichte

September 6, 1923 – July 7, 2007

Renata Ruby Fichte, the daughter of Adolph and Mary (Lehmann) Umlang, was born September 6, 1923 in Lincoln, Texas. She was baptized in the Christian faith on September 16, 1923 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln by Pastor R. Osthoff. Renata confirmed her faith on March 21, 1937 with Pastor R. Osthoff. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 37:5: “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.”

Renata was married to Oscar Fichte on April 21, 1946 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln by Pastor H.A. Stroebel. After their marriage, Oscar and Renata moved to Houston. The Lord blessed them with two children, Eunice and Norman.

Renata worked in retail sales for several businesses. Over 20 years of her retail sales employment was for Montgomery Ward. As a trustworthy, dependable employee, she was promoted to manager of several departments at the Ward’s in Sharpstown Mall.

About 1 ˝ years following her husband’s death in 1985, Renata moved to “The Farm” (the property where she and Oscar had planned to retire) in Old Washington, Texas. While living there, she enjoyed gardening, volunteering at Trinity Medical Center, being an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Navasota, caring for her mother, and participating in various other activities.

In 1999, Renata moved back to Lee County. She immediately became involved in numerous groups and her children joked that they had to make appointments to see her! She was an active member of Immanuel Ladies Aid, the Caring Ministry, Singles for Jesus, the Wendish Society, the German Society, Happy Hearts Quilt Guild, Giddings Garden Club, and family reunion committees. Renata took joy in helping others. She helped with Bible classes at local nursing homes, visited shut-ins, helped serve at funerals, took people to the doctor, made homemade bread and other “goodies” for her family, and helped wherever else she was needed.

Renata’s health gradually failed with osteoporosis, mini strokes, and other medical complications. Our Heavenly Father called her home on Saturday, July 7, 2007. She reached the age of 82 years. Rev. John Davis will conduct the funeral service at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings on Wednesday July 11, 2007. Burial will be in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Oscar, her son Norman, her sisters: Dorothy Gonzales and Edna Kasper and a brother, Victor Umlang.

Renata is survived by her daughter, Eunice Hendrickson and husband, Allan; two granddaughters, Wendy Frel and husband Dwayne and Carrie Bradford and husband Brian; two great-grandsons: Luke and Kyle Frel; and her daughter-in-law Wanda Fichte. Also mourning her death are her brother, Eldor Umlang and his wife, Barbara; her brothers-in-law: Jacinto Gonzales and Milton Kasper and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

During her life, Renata was showered with many blessings from God, and now in her death, she received her greatest gift - life everlasting in perfect peace and joy.

Memorials may be made to Christ Our Cornerstone, Lutheran Hour, or American Cancer Society.
