William H. Crawford, Sr.

1916-July 7, 2007

William Henry Crawford Sr. went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at the age of 91. He was a member of the Lexington Masonic Lodge #138 and the Lexington Order of the Eastern Star Lodge #996.

William was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, LaRue. He is survived by his children, William H. Crawford, Jr., Vera Nell Vizena and husband Archie; grandchildren, Duane Vizena and wife Selynda, Jerry Vizena, Amy Vizena Wenzel and husband Chad; great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Jake, Tucker and Gage.

Services were held at the First Baptist Church in Christine, Texas on Saturday, July 14th. Interment followed in the Christine Community Cemetery.

Thelma “Becky” Harper

January 13, 1919 – August 2, 2007

Thelma “Becky” Harper, 88, of Alvin, Texas, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2007 in Alvin . Becky was born January 13, 1919 in Adina, Texas to parents, Lem H. and Anna Pearl (Edwards) Jones. She attended Heights Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie “Shorty” Harper; parents, 3 sisters; 4 brothers; and one grandchild, Ivan Allen Smith.

Becky enjoyed fishing, quilting, gardening, and her family gatherings.

Becky is survived by daughters, Virginia Difrancesco and husband, Vince of Alvin, Texas; Wanda Meyer and husband, Don of Alvin, Texas; and Glenda Harper of Rockport, Texas; sons, Stephen Harper and wife, Carolyn of Riverside, Texas and Randy Harper and wife, Diane of Alvin, Texas; brothers, Beauford H. (Spud) Jones; Richard Jones; and Elton Jones, all of Austin, Texas. 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.

Visitation was held Sunday, August 5, 2007 at Scott Funeral Home Chapel, from 3:00 – 5:00 PM, Alvin, Texas.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 6, 2007, at 2:00 PM from Adina Christian Church, with Rev. Tom Lang and Rev. Jason Smith officiating. Burial followed in Adina Cemetery, Lexington, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, family ask that memorials be made to the Adina Christian Church, Lexington, TX. 78947.

Jesse Eugene Holloway

February 20, 1923-August 1, 2007
Jesse Eugene Holloway, 84 of Rockdale, passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 in the Richards Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 20, 1923 to Jessie Herbert and Carrie (Yates) Holloway in the Jones Prairie Community.

He was a graduate of the National School of Business in Waco and attended Baylor University.

He married Elizabeth Schmidt on August 12, 1961 at the Hope Lutheran Church in Buckholts. They made their home in Rockdale where Jesse worked in the Cost Accounting Department of Alcoa.

He retired after 30 years at Alcoa and helped with the family business, Holloway Laundry in Cameron.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Billy Holloway, Herbert Holloway, Bennie Patterson, Jimmy Patterson, and John Patterson; and one sister, Mary Baldridge.

Surviving Jesse are his wife Elizabeth Holloway of Rockdale; son David Eugene Holloway of Los Angeles, California; daughter Pamela Jane Browning and husband Randy of Sugarland; brother Bob Holloway of Gilmer; and sisters Madeliene Langford of Gilmer and Betty Lange of Temple. He is also survived by his grandchildren Justin Browning, Jessica Browning, Kristen Browning Upchurch and husband Chad and his great-granddaughter Elizabeth Upchurch.

A funeral was held Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron, the Reverends Janice Campbell and Weldon Belew presiding. Pall Bearers were Billy Gest, Jimmy Greene, Leon Hammett, Vernon Chenoweth, Bob Burnett, and Gene Luckey.

Jesse was a U.S. Army veteran, having served as a Sergeant during WWII. He was a 1940 graduate of Yoe High School in Cameron and a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale. He had served as the Secretary/Treasurer for Rockdale Little League, Treasurer for Rockdale PTA, Lucy Hill Patterson Library and Peace Lutheran Church Building Committee. He was the first President for Rockdale Federal Credit Union. Curtis Huddleston

August 17, 1932 – August 1, 2007
Funeral services were held on August 3, 2007 for Curtis Huddleston, 74, who passed away on August 1, 2007 at the Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale. Burial was in the Sand Grove Cemetery near Milano. He was born on August 17, 1932 to Joseph Elzie and Zell (Galbreath) Huddleston in Uvalde, Texas. He married Mildred Mozelle Marek on April 29, 2007 in Milam County Church of Christ. He had worked for 30 years as a postal letter carrier in the Heights area of Houston.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Rockdale; son, Carl Huddleston of Milano; daughters: Donna Ditto of Milano and Cindy Bell and husband Eddie of Milano; step son, Richard Marek and wife Carolyn of Chriesman; step daughter, Valerie Havel of Bryan; brothers: Gerald Huddleston and wife Joy of The Woodlands and Joe Dan Huddleston and wife Sandy of Milano; grandchildren: Marisa Brooks Wilson and husband Matt of Georgetown, Daniel Ray Ditto of Hearne, Curtis Wayne Huddleston of Houston, Jason Edward Bell and wife Ami of Carrollton, Jennifer Marie DeHart And husband, Keith of Huntsville and Amy Denise Bell of Taylor; great grandchild, Jozie Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bobby Jerry Huddleston.

Serving as pallbearers were Keith DeHart, Daniel Ditto, Matt Wilson, Bill Newbury, Porter Young, Larry Faulkner, and Jason Bell.

Mr. Huddleston was a member of Milam County Church of Christ near Rockdale.

Richard Oscar Koslan

April 9, 1925 – August 5, 2007
Richard “Dick” Oscar Koslan passed away Sunday, August 5, 2007 in Lincoln. He was 82 years old.

Mr. Koslan was born on April 9, 1925 to Charles and Helena (Proske) Koslan in Lincoln, Texas. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. On April 7, 1951, he married Gladys Iselt.

Mr. Koslan was a furniture maker with Koslan Brothers in Giddings for many years. After that factory closed, he went to work for Superior Dairy, which is now Borden Milk. He retired in 1988.

Mr. Koslan was a member of the Giddings Volunteer Fire Department from 1950 – 1970. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening and raising chickens.

His parents preceded him in death, as did brothers and sisters-in-laws Gerhard and Irene Koslan and Albert and Ruth Koslan. Two other brothers, Charles Koslan and Willie Koslan also preceded him in death, as did brothers-in-law Carl Boes and Elmo Iselt and Sister-in-law Irene Iselt.

Mr. Koslan is survived by his wife, Gladys of Giddings; sister Loraine Boes of Austin; brother Edmund Koslan and wife Bernell of Loebau; sisters-in-law Ruby Koslan and Dahlia Koslan of Giddings and Caroline Iselt of Lexington; and by his brothers-in-law Freddy Iselt and wife Sydonia of Houston, Wilbert Iselt of Paige, and Melvin Iselt and wife Terry of Ledbetter. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive him.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 10, 2007 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln at 10 a.m., where he was a member. The Reverend Dale Bohm will preside. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 9, at 7p.m. and again on Friday morning from 7-8:30 a.m. He will be buried in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lincoln. Pall Bearers will be Buddy Wenke, Bill Koslan, Wayne Koslan, Marcus Koslan, Grady Lee Stueber and Douglas Boes. Honorary Pall Bearers will include members of the Giddings Volunteer Fire Department.

Memorials can be made to the Giddings Volunteer Fire Department or to St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery Fund in Lincoln.

Joe Harvey Bartlett and Gladys Anderson Bartlett
December 14, 1910 – August 1, 2007 and June 13, 1914 – August 3, 2007 Respectively
Joe was the first of five sons born to Jim and Ruby Bartlett in Tracey, Texas. Gladys was the youngest of six children born to Jim and Eva Anderson in Lilac, Texas. After 74 years of marriage, they passed two days apart to spend eternity together in their next life. They leave behind their two daughters, Ginger (Bill) and Jo (Bill); 5 grandchildren and their spouses; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren, with another on the way. Joe is also survived by 3 brothers and their families. Gladys is also survived by a niece and nephew and their families.

They lived an exemplary life and touched everyone who knew and loved them. Their family feels blessed and grateful for the privilege of having been part of their lives.

The family received friends on Sunday, August 5, 2007 at the Grand View Funeral Home in Pasadena, Texas. Funeral services were held on Monday, August 6, 2007 in the Chapel of Grand View Funeral Home and a graveside service was conducted at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale later that day.
