Vergil Wesley Davenport

May 16, 1929 – Sept. 13, 2007

Vergil Wesley Davenport died at the Medical Center of Lewisville on September 13, 2007. Services were held on Sept. 16, 2007 at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale,. Burial followed in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale. Vergil was born to Joe and Victoria (Breedin) Davenport in Rockdale on May 16, 1929. He worked as a stock clerk for American Airlines shipping and retired in 1982.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and admiring old cars.

Vergil is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Davenport of Lewisville; sisters, Lou Hardin of Bertram, Dorthy Elliott of Irving, Ruby Mitcham of Rockdale, Maudie Davenport of Austin, and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jimmy and Joe Davenport.

Pall Bearers were: Darrell Davenport, Joe Stephens, Jackie Stephens, Dalton Stephens, George Terry Henson, Tom Mitcham and Joe Wayne Mitcham.

Billy Hammack

April 19, 1958 – Sept. 11, 2007

A funeral in honor of Billy Hammack was held on September 15, 2007 at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. The burial followed in the Sharp Cemetery in Sharp, Texas. Pall Bearers were: Byron Bonnet, Bill Cloyd, Gordon Faubion, Bubba Frei, Blake Graham, Kevin Phipps, Stanley Tieken and Ronnie Westbrook. Bruce Bonnet was an honorary Pall Bearer.

Billy died in Mount Carmel, Illinois on Sept. 11, 2007.

He was born in Fullerton, California on April 19, 1958 and married Connie Belvin in Goergetown on Aug. 19, 1977. He worked as a project manager for Zachry Construction, Inc. and lived in Rockdale since 1984.

Billy loved golf, hunting and fly fishing.

He is survived by: his wife, Connie Hammack of Rockdale; son, Monty Hammack and wife Kristi of Japan; daughter, Ashley Stutts and husband Brent of Rockdale; father, William Monroe Hammack, Jr. and wife Larrie of Liberty Hill; mother, Mildred Hammack of Georgetown; brothers, Greg Hammack and wife LuAnn of Deport, Texas and Clay Hammack and wife Ida of Liberty Hill; sister, Blenda Wilson and husband Tommy of Gonzales; grandchildren, Qyn Hammack, Jaylyn Stutts, Shelby Hammack, Coy Stutts, Chesnee Hammack and Jordyn Stutts.

His grandparents preceded him in death.

Casey Joshua Holland

June 7, 2007 - Sept. 16, 2007
Casey Joshua Holland went to be with the Lord on September 16, 2007 in Westmead Children’s Hospital of Sydney, Australia. He was born in Sydney, Australia on June 7, 2007 to Craig and Anne-Maree Holland currently living in Vancouver, Canada. He is survived by his Parents, Grandparents, Colin and Marcel Imer of Sydney, Australia and Gary and Trudy Holland of Lexington, Texas, Great-grandparents, Cliff and Norma Imer, and W. A. McCloud of Melbourne, Australia and Beulah Holland of Marble Falls, Texas, Aunt and Uncle, Jodie and Jeremy Rexroat of Venus, Texas and cousin, Samuel Rexroat of Venus, Texas, and many friends and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his Grandmother, Laurice Imer and Great-grandmother, Burl McCloud, both of Melbourne, Australia; Great-grandparents, Riley and Bonney Hopper of Lexington, Texas; and Great-grandfather, Rudolph Holland, and Step-great-grandfather, Clifton Holland, both of Marble Falls, Texas. Burial is to be in Melbourne, Australia. Mary A. Manning

Dec. 17, 1917 – Sept. 14, 2007

Mary A. Manning died in Shreveport, Lousianna on September 14, 2007. Services were held on Sept. 17 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Mary was born in Cullman, Alabama on December 17, 1917 to Carl Alexander and Eugene Shikel.

Mary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rockdale and a WWII Veteran serving in the Marine Corps.

She married Elwood S. Manning on December 9, 1944 in Morehead, North Carolina.

Mary is survived by her sons, Paul A. Manning of Tacoma, Washington and Philip E. Manning of Portland, Oregon; daughter, Patricia A. Manning of Shreveport; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was presceded in death by her parents, her husband (10/3/1976) and her brother “June” Alexander.

Dorothy E. Schautschick

July 22, 1037 – Sept. 15, 2007
Services for Dorothy Elsie Schautschick were held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas on September 18, 2007. Dorothy died on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Giddings Healthcare Center.

Dorothy was born to Alvin and Gertie Schneider in Fedor on July 22, 1937. Dorothy was united in marriage to Melvin John Schautschick on April 12, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor, Texas. She and her husband were partners in the ownership and operation of S & A Appliance in Giddings for many years.

She enjoyed her flowers, taking care of her farm and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She always remained involved in and took an active and vital part in her family members’ lives.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Karen and Jerry Faske of Giddings, Cindy and Gary Becker of Servin, Peggy Schautschick of Giddings; grandchildren, Melissa and Jimmie Lehmann of Giddings, Dustin Faske of Giddings, Kristin Becker of Servin, Kelly Becker of Servin, Brandon Schautschick of Giddings, Jessa Schautschick of Giddings; sisters, Bertha Foerster of Lexington, Susie Proske of Giddings, Sisters-in-law, Frances Schneider of Lexington, Mary Schneider of Manheim, Gladys Schneider of Lincoln; brother-in-law, Leonard Iselt of Fedor and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (1997), her sister, Irma Iselt and three brothers, Erwin, Oswald and Floyd.Memorials can be sent to Hospice Brazos Valley, St. Paul Lutheran Church or the charity of choice.

James D. “Buck” Stewart

May 8, 1956 – Sept. 12, 2007
James “Buck” Stewart died on Sept 12, 2007 following a sudden illness. Services were held in Rockdale Full Gospel Church on Sept. 14 and at Whitsett First Baptist Church on Sept. 15. He was burried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Whitsett, Texas.

Buck was born to Carl Lee Stewart, Jr. and Merle Ruth (Everett) Stewart on May 8, 1956 in Three Rivers, Texas. He was the owner and operator of 3S Metal Buildings in Rockdale and also operated a deer breeding ranch.

Billy is survived by his son, Randy Steward of Rockdale; parents, Merle Ruth and Carl Lee Steward, Jr. of McCoy; brothers, Rusty Stewart and wife Janis of Poteet, Lloyd Steward and wife Sue of Loma Alto, Clayton Steward and wife Lottie of Caldwell, Troy Steward of McCoy, Daryl “BB” Stewart of Freer, Nathaniel “Nat” Stewart of McCoy; and sister, Carolyn “Cissy” Stewart of Bastrop.

Pall Bearers in Rockdale were: Johnny Morton, Jimmy Joe Morton, Bill Raymond, Ben Rhodes, Donnie Marek and Frank Morgan.

Alice Lee Winocur

Feb. 10, 1928 – Sept. 14, 2007
Alice Lee Winocur died in her home in Robinson, Texas on Sept. 14, 2007. Services were held at the Oak Lawn cemetery in Rockdale on Saturday.

Alice was born to Irving Finch and Nancy Lee Allison in Cameron on Feb. 10, 1928. She married Albert Winocur in Ardmore, Oklahoma on May 23, 1977.

She is survived by her husband, Albert Winocur of Robinson; and her sisters, Opal Matoska of Robinson and Myrtle Faykus of Taylor.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Elbert, Nelard, Irving, Clayton and Charlie Finch; and her sister Ola Holder.
