November 2, 1939 – September 20, 2007 Services for Monroe Herbert Jatzlau were held on Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor. Burial was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Pall Bearers were Mark Jatzlau, Robert Hopkins, Wiltz Hanks, Todd Church, Alan Shuffield and William Dowdy. Born in Nacogdoches on November 2, 1939 to Herbert and Minnie (Urban) Jatzlau, Monroe lived in the Lexington-Fedor area and a number of places along the Texas and Lousiana Gulf Coast. He settled in Weatherford for the past 11 years, where he died on September 20, 2007. Monroe was a graduate of LSU, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fedor. Monroe enjoyed hunting and fishing. He worked as a Petroleum engineer for 20 years and also worked for the Lee County Sheriff’s office. Monroe is survived by his son, Mark Jatzlau of Fedor; his daughter, Kathy Hanks of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Debbie Hopkins and husband Robert of Weatherford; and his grandchild, Stephen Hanks. He was preceded in death by his parents. July 9, 1928 – September 16, 2007 Bertha Jackson died in the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale on September 16, 2007. Services were held on September 22 at Pecan Street Church of Christ in Rockdale. She was buried in the Old Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale. Bertha was born on July 9, 1928 to Bob and Nettie Roberson, Sr. She was married to Emo Jackson and worked as a nurse’s assistant at Austin State School and was a long-time resident of Rockdale. Bertha is survived by her sons, Odis Mack and wife Felicia of Katy, Rellous Baker and wife Lanell of Rockdale; daughters, Bertha Goodwin and husband Clarence of Oklahoma City, and Mia Denise Robinson of Rockdale; brothers, James Thomason of Oklahoma City and Bob Roberson, Jr. of Houston; sisters, Bobbie Davis of Rockdale and Nettie B. Patterson of Temple. Bertha had three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. June 7, 1922 – September 22, 2007 Eunice was born in Lexington on June 7, 1922 to Isaac William and Naomi (Hester) Parker. She married W. Scott Means on October 3, 1965 and graduated from the Texas State College for Women in Denton. She received a Masters degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Eunice served as an Associate in the Division of Student Work of the Baptist General Convention of Texas; she became librarian and secretary to the President of the Baptist Theological Seminary in Zurich, Switzerland. In 1952 she became a Campus Minister at the University of Texas, serving as Director of the Baptist Student Union from 1952 to 1955, and Coordinator of International Student Ministries from 1955 to 1965. Eunice is survived by her four step-grandchildren, cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 25, 2001; her sisters, Naomi Elizabeth Parker and Lois Jeanette Rowland Lunsford. August 16, 1985 – September 15, 2007 Delilah is survived by her special friend, Doby Vereen Johnson of Cameron; her son, Doby Vereen Johnson, Jr. of Milano; her daughter, Danetria Alize’ Johnson of Milano, her father, Richard Melton of Griffin Chapel; her brothers, Jordan Richard Melton of Griffin Chapel and Kendall Alexander Clayton of Griffin Chapel; and her sister, Rebekah Ann Melton of Griffin Chapel. May 24, 1964 – September 15, 2007 Pam was born on May 24, 1964 in Rockdale. Her parents were David and Billie Gunnels Sr. Pam married Richard Melton on December 27, 1983 in Cameron, Texas and was a department manager at Wal-Mart in Rockdale. Pam was a member of the Goodwill Baptist Church in Milano. Pam is survived by her husband, Richard Earl Melton of Griffin Chapel; her children, Jordan Richard Melton, Kendall Alexander Clayton, Rebekah Ann Melton, Jayson Gibbons, Mayson Gibbons and Faullenn Gibbons all of Griffin Chapel; her god daughter, Alexia Melton of Griffin Chapel; her brothers, Joe Lee Gunnels of Milano, David Gunnels Jr. and wife Beverly of Milano, Mike Wright of Cameron; her sisters, Debra Karen Gunnels, Peggy Ruth Arrington and Ernestine Wright, all of Milano. May 5, 1913 – September 19, 2007 Jose died at the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale on September 19, 2007. A life-long resident of Rockdale, Josie was born to Will S. and Mildred (Kocian) Palmer on May 5, 1913. Josie graduated from Rockdale High School in 1931, then graduated from Massey Business College in Houston. Josie went on to become the Personal Secretary to H.H. Coffield in Rockdale in 1936 and continue to work for the Coffield Estate until death. Josie was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockdale. Josie was preceded in death by sister, Yvonne J. February 21, 1913 – September 18, 2007 Gladys is survived by her daughter, Pat Lerche and husband Ewald of Lexington; grandchildren, Patti Lerche of Lexington, Melanie Brown and husband, Wynn of Waco; great grandchildren, Emily, Allison and Andrew Brown of Waco. She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Erma Thompkins, Ima Pounders, Stella Jones, Mollie “Shorty” Quinny, Nona Taylor and Pauline Reynolds. January 31, 1919 – September 15, 2007 She was born in Rockdale to Jimmie and Mary (Stolte) Stork on January 31, 1919. She married Hugo Wenzel in Rockdale on March 25, 1937 and worked as a custodian with the University of Texas in Austin for 21 years.
