November 18, 1937 – September 29, 2007 Kenneth Caffey died on September 29, 2007 at Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. Service were held on October 4, 2007 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale and burial was in the Salty Cemetery near Thorndale. Pall Bearers were: Tim Czapla, Ira Syler, Eddie Whitley, Andre’ Hartness, Leroy Stephens, Buster Pavlicek, Bill Barefield and Robert Thigpen, Jr. Honorary Pall Bearers were: Glenn Towery, Jackie Bon Towery, Tregg Towery, David Carter, Steve Childress and Calvin Schuman. Kenneth was born to Dow and Norma (Towery) Caffey on November 18, 1937 in Salty, Texas. He graduated from Thorndale High School and worked as a Sales Representative for Lextron in Animal Health and other related companies for 46 years. Kenneth married Melba Jean Steward on July 27, 1957 in San Gabriel Baptist Church in San Gabriel, Texas. He was a member of Salty Community Church and attended church at Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Rockdale for the past two years. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Melba Caffey of Salty; his son, Stuart Caffey and wife Debbie of Jonestown; his daughters, Sherry Schneider and husband Glynn of Salty, Rebecca McWilliams and husband Irby of Salty; his brother, Douglas Caffey and wife Janice of Salty; his mother-in-law, Lula Stewart of Rockdale, his grandchildren: Coy Wayne Schneider, Cody James Schneider, Miranda Lynn Caffey, Taylor Morgan McWilliams and Cheyenne Nicole McWilliams. His parents and brother, Doyle Wayne Caffey, preceded him in death. Memorials may be sent to Salty Community Church, c/o Rebecca McWilliams, 230 CR 447, Thorndale, Texas 76577. May 10, 1929 – October 4, 2007 Services for Jean McDonald were held at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale at 2 p.m. on October 8, 2007. Interment followed in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Pall Bearers were Ed Tuma, Raymond Tuma and deacons of the First Baptist Church. Jean died on October 4, 2007 at the Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale. Jean was born on May 10, 1929 in Milam County to August Anton Tuma and Lida Lawhon Tuma. She traveled with her husband, a seismography company employee, which took them to Africa, Australia, and Canada as well as many places in the United States. She later worked in Home Healthcare for the Girling Agency, was a dispatcher for the Rockdale Police Department, a cook for Richards Memorial Hospital and a custodian for First Baptist Church in Rockdale. She often said ,“What a privilege it is to take care of God’s House.” Jean is survived by her daughter, Katherine Miller-Kaplan of Seaside, Oregon; her grandchildren, Jenna C. Miller-Kaplan of Ashlan, Oregon, Dane J. Miller-Kaplan of Tokyo, Japan; her sister, Geraldine Offield of Rockdale, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Hudson, Deck, Kit Carson, Phil and Sam Doyle Tuma; her sisters: Evelyn Pierrington and Lula Zora Purnell. Memorials should be directed to First Baptist Church in Rockdale or Vista Care Hospice. September 1, 1922 – September 29, 2007 Pall Bearers were: Larry Shuffield, David E. Ray, Milton Holmes, Charles Holder, Ernest Hoffmeyer, Fred Debault and Mark Vreeland. Honorary Pall Bearers were: Earl Whitmore, Don Roddam and Homer Jones. Christine was born to Louie J. and Jewel B. (Morris) Watson on September 1, 1922 in Milam County. She married William “Bill” Payne on May 4, 1948 in Thorndale. She was a woman of many interests: an active member of the first Baptist Church in Rockdale, a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star, a retired Service Representative for Southwestern Bell, and a regular player of 42. Christine died at the Richards Memorial Hospital on September 29, 2007. She is survived by her husband, William D. Payne of Rockdale; her sons, Dennis W. Payne and William Dwain Payne, both of Rockdale; her grandchildren: William David Payne, Kara Denise Payne, Wesley Garrett Payne and Laramie Paige Payne. Her parents preceded her in death. March 31, 1929 - October 5, 2007 Harold died on October 5, 2007 at St. David’s Medical Center in Austin. He was born to William and Frieda (Ihlo) Schulz in Austin on March 31, 1929. Harold married Annie Jenke Schulz on November 23, 1950. He worked as an insurance salesman, was a veteran of the Army, an active member of the American Legion post in Giddings and was very involved with the Woodsman of the World. Harold is survived by his wife, Annie Jenke Schulz of Paige; his sons: Barney and Betty Schulz of Round Rock, Aubrey and Carol Schulz of League City, Texas, Donnie Schulz of Paige; his brother, Charles and Barbara Schulz of Elgin; sister, Dorothy Brade of Lincoln; six grandchildren: Rachel Schulz of League City, Stacy and Tim McHale of Pennsylvania, Brian and Ellie Schulz of Japan, Von Schulz of San Marcos, Bretton Schulz of Lubbock, Allison Gullett of Houston; his great grandchild, Sadie Schulz of Japan; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leon Schulz; and five sisters: Irene Islet, Modean Raschke, Laverne Schulz, Pearl Eschberger and Gloria Fruzia. November 14, 1926 – October 7, 2007 Doris is survived by her son, Richard Arnold Sullivan of Austin; daughter, Jeannine Closs and husband Lamar of Rockdale; grandchildren: Lauri Ross and husband Jeff of Brenham, Billy Sager of Pflugerville, Christy Watts and husband Norman of Austin, Bobby Sager and wife Emily of McKinney, Jennifer Sullivan of Austin, Ginger Richter and husband Terry of Rockdale, Mara Sullivan of Missouri City; great grandchildren: Michael Ross of Brenham, Daniel Ross and fiance Erica Bush of Bryan, Brittany Sullivan of Austin, Christina Sager of Brenham, Katie Brooke Richter and Tyler Richter of Rockdale, Tabitha Watts and Adam Watts of Austin, Maci Sager and Kylie Sager of McKinney. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 29, 1999, her two infant daughters: Patricia Ann and Doris Virginia Sullivan; her grandson, Richard Arnold Sullivan, Jr. and her sister, Betty Bell.
